Pan and Tilt Capability Makes It Stand Out

This TP Link camera is a convenient way to add audio video recording capability to any area of the home that is close to an electric outlet. The 2K (2560 x 1440) video quality is detailed and clear. But what makes the camera stand out is the motorized pan and tilt feature. Thus capability greatly expands the range of the 98 degree field of view. Setup was relatively straightforward. Just download the App, create an account, and pair the camera to the App. This process took about 15 minutes. The SD card is inserted into the camera and is somewhat hidden from view. To access the SD card socket, the camera needs to be rotated all the way up which brings the SD card slot into view. The camera records on a loop by deleting older videos when the SD card capacity is reached. The two-way audio and video communication capability works well. Just make sure you have a strong Wi-Fi signal since HD video streams require a fast upload speed. Video quality is excellent at 2K. The camera resolution can be set to 2K or 720P. An auto setting allows the camera to decide 720P or 2K. 720P recordings are less detailed, but still look sufficiently good. 720P recordings take up less room and thus allow for more videos to be saved. The night vision capability also works well. This camera is indoor rated but could theoretically be plugged in outdoors, in a backyard patio for example, as long as it is not left outdoors for too long or during inclement weather. One of the reasons I chose this camera is because it does not require a subscription to use and recordings are stored locally on a SD card. While traveling I was able to access the live video stream and playback past recording. However I was not able to download to my device because the App blocks downloads unless the download device is on the same Wi-Fi network as the camera. I imagine this is a security feature. This camera can be wall mounted with the included mounting base. I did not wall mount it because I want to be able to move it around the house. Since it is not battery operated, it needs to be near an electric outlet which could complicate wall mounting. One feature that I really appreciate is the physical privacy shield that blocks the camera lens. The privacy shield can be activated using the App or by pressing the button that can be activated by disarming the camera A subscription is not required to use this camera, but is necessary to access full cloud services. I may add a subscription in the future but for now the robust local recording features are meeting my needs.

I believe the Tapo smart AI camera, TP-Link's TC73 Wi-Fi model, boasts a distinctive design that sets it apart from conventional cameras. Its Wi-Fi connectivity and rotational capabilities, allowing both up/down and left/right movement, provide the convenience of comprehensive home surveillance. The camera can be easily mounted on flat surfaces like tables, countertops, walls, or ceilings, thanks to its wide-angle view. Moreover, it features a built-in privacy lens shutter, which affords me the comfort of controlling the camera's privacy with a simple button press on the camera or through the Tapo app. The camera package includes the camera unit, a power cable, a mounting kit, a user manual, and a quick start guide. Setting it up was straightforward, with the manual suggesting I could configure it through the Tapo app or directly integrate it into the Apple HomeKit app if I owned an iPhone or iPad. Given my possession of both iOS and Android devices, I decided to expedite the setup process by adding it to my iPhone's HomeKit app. I scanned the HomeKit code, but the loading page took around 4 minutes, and I received a message indicating that the camera could not be found. Consequently, I opted to add it to the Tapo app, which would also allow me to manage all my TP-Link devices, including Kasa smart plugs. The camera was added quickly to the Tapo app, and in the settings, I selected "Add to Home" to integrate it with my HomeKit app. However, my initial attempt failed until I noticed a note in the quick installation advising me to reboot the camera by unplugging and reconnecting it, followed by a brief wait, I successfully added the camera to the HomeKit app on my iPhone and it worked smoothly. The camera itself is excellently crafted, boasting a 2K QHD resolution that delivers clear video recordings in various lighting conditions which is noticeable. It incorporates smart motion tracking and instant notifications, which I received promptly, distinguishing between human and sound detections. These features significantly enhance home security. I tested the microphone and found that the two-way audio function worked well, though I experienced some voice breakup on a few occasions, despite having a fast and stable internet connection. The AI detection capabilities were notably accurate, accurately identifying objects within its view. Additionally, it offers a line detection feature, allowing me to set virtual lines for notifications when crossed, and a security zone feature for detecting and notifying me when someone enters a designated area. The motion tracking function performed admirably, automatically following moving objects to keep them in the frame. One impressive feature is the color night vision, enabling the camera to capture color images even in low-light conditions. The camera provides both local and cloud storage options for recorded videos, with the choice to use a microSD card of up to 512 GB or subscribe to Tapo Care cloud storage services for secure data storage. It also offers remote monitoring through the Tapo app, allowing you to check in on your home from anywhere in the world. The camera's Invisible Infrared Mode eliminates the red glow of IR LEDs during nighttime monitoring, making it suitable for discreetly monitoring sleeping children and pets. In summary, the TC73 is a feature-rich home security camera with exceptional resolution, advanced features such as smart motion tracking and color night vision, and compatibility with popular smart home ecosystems. The options for both local and cloud storage, along with privacy controls and easy sharing capabilities, make it a well-rounded choice for enhancing home security.

TP-Link - Tapo TC73 AI Home Security Pan/Tilt Wi-Fi Camera - White Review: Setup in the app was straight forward and if you have any other TAPO link products then your account will be the same. I disabled the KASA app and used the TAPO for everything. I had to manually point the camera up in order to insert the micro-SD card (used a 128GB SanDisk Switch card). Be sure to format the card in settings and update the firmware. After manually pointing the camera to up, be sure to do the auto adjust feature to reset the camera. I turned the constant recording off for movements and will activate that when away from the house. There is a recording schedule that can be set up if that is what you need. For example, at night, schedule the recording for all movements. Settings include pets, humans, babies, etc to customize your recording needs. Be advised that some window glass will not allow movement detection or IR. Be sure to test that feature if you want to place these in a window to catch outdoor movement. You can have a 2-way conversation with anything you want. Neat feature to communicate with pets when away from the house for extended periods. Camera picture quality is outstanding as well as build quality of the product. Remote pan and tilt will be useful to check on pets, thieves, and senior citizens. I was totally caught off guard on how high the quality is for this unit at any price point. You can do anything you want on local storage as well as remote viewing without the cloud, However, if you have other Google devices then the cloud may be a good addition to your setup. Google assistant works with this product. Features: TC73 is the first Tapo smart AI home security pan/tilt camera designed with a privacy shutter. You can easily activate the privacy mode by clicking the button on the product shell or using the Tapo app, ensuring you won't be monitored by the camera whenever needed. As a 2K 4MP camera , you can always view clear images even in low light or overexposed environments. With 2K 4MP resolution and starlight sensor, enjoy crisp live views in any light, without worries about overexposed or low light conditions. The smart tracking function enables you to always keep what matters in sight. You can save recorded videos on the microSD Card (up to 512 GB, purchased separately) or use Tapo Care cloud storage services (subscribe separately). The AI algorithm of Tapo C125 can identify people, pets, vehicles, and even recognize a baby crying and other sounds, notifying you as needed. The friendly compact and magnetic design of Tapo C125 offers you the flexibility to place the device wherever needed. Furthermore, free up your hands with voice assistants such as Alexa, Google Assistant, and Apple Homekit. Tapo C125 also supports Wi-Fi 6 environments for more stable and consistent live views. As a fully equipped security camera, Tapo C125 also supports functions such as two-way audio, customizable sound and light alarms, and clip sharing. Seamless privacy control Use the button on the product shell or Tapo app to easily open or close the privacy shield, giving you complete control over your private moments. 2K QHD Details matter, and with 2K QHD clarity, the TC73 goes a step beyond traditional FullHD resolution with finer details and incredible clarity. Starlight sensor The high-sensitive starlight sensor captures higher-quality images even in low-light conditions. Smart motion tracking Precisely tracks and follows a subject, keeping it within the camera’s field of view with up to 120°/s rotating speed. Apple Homekit supported TC73 fully integrates into your Apple Home ecosystem. TP-Link - Tapo TC73 AI Home Wi-Fi Camera T-P Link makes many products that connect to wired and wireless networks; among them is this “Tapo TC73 AI Home Security Pan/Tilt Wi-Fi Camera” which is the subject of my experience and review here. The camera is powered by a plug-in power adapter and is not using batteries. It has a privacy mode, enabled from the camera directly which drops down the camera lens mechanically or from the available TP-Link app for enabling privacy when needed. It works with WiFi protocols of 802.11 b, g and n at the 2.4 Ghz band. It uses 128 bit AES encryption. The app is easily installed on a smartphones by scanning the barcode on the box to initiate the download and install. It has a “2K QHD” 2688 x 1520 resolution that is better than 1080p that captures details and produces clear videos as well as a starlight sensor that captures higher-quality images even in low-light conditions up to 30 ft. TP-Link touts that it has a larger aperture of f1.6 that allows more light to enter to generate better videos. It creates 30 frames per second videos. Field of view is 360 degrees horizontally and 149 degrees vertically. It includes a built-in microphone and a speaker. The camera includes “smart motion tracking” that rotates the camera to track and follow someone who may be walking to keep a view of them at all times. TP-Link specifies the motorized panning moves 120°/ per second while rotating. The camera’s color night vision feature allows seeing colors in low-light conditions. Of course, there is an infrared mode, when switched on, that TP-Link touts as being invisible, that can be used to see at night without the normally annoying reddish light. This invisible function won’t disturb sleeping people, children and pets when checking on them at nighttime. This TC73 camera utilizes AI artificial intelligence that can identify people, pets, and children. When it hears “abnormal sounds” it will notify the user via the TP-Link app. Videos can be saved on a microSD card of up to 512 GB size, or in online storage using TP-Link “TapoCare” cloud storage which is a paid service. The camera is compatible with devices such as Apple Homekit, Alexa, and Google Home, allowing you to control the camera hands-free with voice control. With the Alexa Announcement feature configured, your Alexa smart speakers, such as Amazon Echo, Echo Show, Fire TV, can announce a voice notification when the Tapo Cam detects a related event. The camera was installed onto our WiFi wireless network and the TPCares app was installed on both Android phones and on a Android tablet. It works fine and images are clear and of good quality, just as TP-Link touts. It was also linked to our Alexa account and it works to show and announce when it detects motion onto our Alexa smart speakers and the Show models with display screens. I would recommend this camera.

    Cost Effective Indoor AI Camera

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

BACKGROUND: I currently have an assortment of different vendor’s cameras setup for varying purposes. A door-cam, a pair of outdoor security cameras dedicated to my alarm system, and now this indoor camera. Each has their own unique set of features, assets, and liabilities. (The greatest drawback with my hodge-podge arrangement is not sharing a single application, therefore I would not recommend my setup.) Nevertheless, this review will be solely based on the merits of the TC-Link / Tapo TC73 AI Camera. MOUNTING: There are few mounting options; upright, upside down on a ceiling, or non-stationary. Essentially, I do not intent to permanently mount, but will primarily use in my home “repair shop” room when I am local (I need a way to monitor this room, keeping my grandsons out). Or relocate this camera to my garage when I am out of town. Basically, I consider this my dedicated “floater” camera. INSTALLATION: The TC73 camera is simple to setup and use with the Android application when following the instructions. And playing/testing out each feature was somewhat intuitive. A lot of options available here, with some being AI based, but the defaults meet my requirements for my intended use. STORAGE & MONITOR: I do not intend to use Cloud storage through a paid subscription, so I am utilizing a MicroSD card for storage which is an excellent feature. Being notified when someone enters my “repair shop” is the intended goal, and the TC73 has functioned without fail. Plus, I am able to download videos or pictures and save them from the Android App to my phone, and works just fine without glitches. 2K 4MP & STARLIGHT: Excellent color video at 2K with minimum lighting available. 4MP pictures are great too, and the night IR is very detailed. I must admit, much better than my outdoor security cameras. But I was not a fan of the night color viewing option due to a lack of detail and would rather use the B&W night IR mode. PRIVACY: Accessing the “privacy” option couldn’t be easier. Either the front camera privacy button, or the application privacy ICON, will activate the camera pointing down into it base. When not needing to be alerted, this is a very quick method to turn off the camera. SMART TRACKING: I did demo this feature and played around with the pan and tilt options along with the patrol features. Nice to have those capabilities for monitoring your children, pets, whatever. But personally, I’ll leave them off at the moment. Recognize that if you are tying to keep this camera somewhat discreetly hidden from intruders (a different application vs. home members), then its tilting head up/down, along with its motorized side to side movements, will absolutely give it away. Think “Hey look at me over here!”. PC WEB APP: The one negative for my use is that there is not Tapo or T-Link dedicated PC web application for remote PC online viewings. Per Tapo online information: “The Tapo camera supports the RTSP protocol, so it can work with third-party NVR or NAS devices that also support the RTSP protocol.” But quite honestly, that can be a pain to setup, and just about impossible for a non-IT savvy user. Now I was able to use VLC Media to stream a local connection (on the same network) after modifying my ATT router firewall with the TC73 IP address for RTSP. But there is more involved to establish connectivity when I am on a different network (out of town). And quiet frankly, I can get by just fine with the Android app for one camera. Now if you are an Apple Home Kit user, then I believe viewing videos remotely should be a breeze. But attempting to add to my existing Google Home app (works with Google) fails to display the camera. It seems to think it had connected (has linked account) but either I am doing something wrong, or it just does not work on my Android phone because I cannot access this camera. I’m thinking it has to do with not paying for a subscription service, not unlike my alarm system cameras not being to save recording without a subscription service. Bottom line, I was trying to get this camera as an option in my Google Home app with my Google Nest Door-Cam, but it just wasn’t happening. So, I’ll just use the Tapo app, problem solved. RATING: Overall, the Tapo TC-73 is a feature rich indoor camera, that can be configured for a multitude of settings, that should meet the requirements and expectations of most all users. Factor in its economy pricing, and I believe it has earned a 5-Star Rating. .

Tapo TC73 PTZ smart / AI capable camera

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The Tapo TC73 camera is a recent addition (August 2023) to the TP-Link company’s several divisions across a stable of fine products. The Archer line includes computer routers, accessories, computer networking devices, etc. The Tapo name applies to many items including this camera, home sensors, robotic vacuums, etc. The Kasa division includes some overlap, and has products including lighting, light switches, plugs, video doorbells, and some cameras. PTZ is shorthand for Pan Tilt and Zoom, which this camera is very skilled at. From a single vantage point in a room, on the top shelf of a bookcase for example, you can see the full vista of the room, including, if you wish, automated scanning from one corner to the other. This is controlled via the app, if you need to check on one aspect while away from home, you can focus in on one area. The camera was very easy to install, and the enclosed instructions were only a couple of pages long. A separate enclosure outlined the steps to add the camera as an accessory on the Apple Home app. I was excited to see a camera that would work with Apple HomeKit, making connection with the iPhone easier and one fewer apps to have to switch between, while we wait for Matter to be more robustly enabled. This versatility comes at a cost, due to restrictions imposed by Apple to be "allowed" in the Home app. This makes control of the camera via the Home app a weaker sibling. The capacities of the camera are greatly diminished when you run the camera via the Apple Home app (see the chart below). Notably the Pan and Tilt controls do not comply with Apple’s Home restrictions, so are deactivated in the Home app. There is a privacy feature, where the camera can be remotely turned on/off in the Tapo app. But if using the Home app, the privacy feature requires you to be physically present to push a small button on the front of the camera. This will toggle the privacy feature on and off. A solution to deal with the multiple features available ONLY in the Tapo app is to install both the Tapo app AND the Home app on your device, which I did for this review. You could use the Tapo app when the need arises, with the Home Apple app being the daily view. Then the option of resorting to the Tapo app when you need higher resolution, pan-tilt capacity, night mode on/off and sensitivity adjustments, etc. The Tapo app was quite intuitive and easily maneuvered, so I spent most of my time there. One of the recent advances in the Apple Home app is the addition of Home Kit Secure Video. This requires a iCloud+ subscription and a Home Hub (a HomePod or AppleTV of a recent generation). Alas, according to the Apple web page on cameras that support HKSV, TP Link and Tado are NOT on the list. There was not a date given on that Web page, to know how current the list was (this is a fairly newly released camera), but not TP-Link devices or Tapo cameras were on the list. The list had a © 2023 footer as the only date given. The application of Artificial Intelligence algorithms comes into play with the camera's ability to filter what situations you choose to be notified of. This can be easily turned off/on via the Tapo app: motion, noise (including identifying dog barking or cat meowing), baby crying, glass breaking, pet detection, vehicle detection, or even camera tampering detection. There is a "Patrol" mode which will scan back and forth horizontally, with the start and stop points set from the app, pausing for an adjustable length of time at each of the endpoints. To preserve longevity of the life of the motor, you can set a schedule for the times you wish the Patrol Mode to be active. And zones can be blocked from view for privacy concerns. Similarly you can set up your own activity zones so that you only receive alerts that matter to you, and you don’t get alerted for motion that doesn’t matter (curtains moving in the breeze, an oscillating fan’s motion, etc.). Firmware updates can be set to automatically download and install via the Tapo app. Indeed, the camera was shipped with the original Firmware and was easily updated to version 1.0.5, which was released 7 October 2023 (I’m writing this on 21 October). Audio recording and a speaker allows for conversation with the room in which the camera is placed. This can be adjusted or muted via the Tapo app; alas, adjusting the mic/speaker is NOT available if running the camera with the Apple Home app. Camera resolution is limited to 1080P in the Apple Home app, but higher in the Tapo app. The camera has 2K QHD resolution. The camera includes HDR technology and 1.7× more pixels than 1080p. Individual camera shots and video sequences are tagged with a date and time stamp. Night vision has a “Starlight Vision” capacity with a large f1.6 aperture camera for superior low light vision. Two photos below of our messy basement with the lights on, and then with lights off, only a bit of light from the small window at 5:00 PM in New Hampshire. The clarity of the night vision is pretty astounding. The camera feed can be stored on a microSD card up to 512 GB, or on a subscription service from TP Link. I had a bit of a problem finding where the SD slot was. The instructions did not fully elaborate. What you need to do is manually rotate the camera straight up, which then reveals the SD slot. This is seen on the first photo below, with the camera lens and the blue LED looking towards the ceiling. Depending on your embrace of the smart home, and your investment already in cameras, you might already have your fill of subscription services from other providers, One more monthly fee might not be in the cards. If the thief chooses to take the camera, the SD card goes with it, making the cloud storage a much secure method of storage. In summary, this is a camera that is very capable, with a lot of flexibility, easy installation and controls, and storage of video either via a cloud subscription or a local micro SD card. It is compact, but not tiny. It is powered with a small power brick, but no internal battery to continue surveillance or recording if the power is out or it becomes unplugged. Other TP-link cameras do have a battery feature, notably outdoor cameras where access to a electric power source might be distant or vulnerable to vandal cutting of power to the camera. This is designed for indoor use, with a low temperature threshold of 32º F. If HomeKit Secure Video is important to you, this may not be camera for you. Searching the TP-Link web page, I could find no mention of any of their several cameras featuring that capacity.

I was in the market for a reasonable priced indoor security camera and decided to try this one out. I was very impressed with the amount of features, the quality of pictures/video and ease of use this camera has. Out of the box there was not much to it, however there were a ton of RC Scan codes all over the place to get the model/make and software. I recommend just go straight to the store and download the Tapo app directly. The setup / connection was very easy to perform, it uses Bluetooth then has the device connect to your 2.4 network. Unfortunately it does not connect to 5 band which is disappointing that it only uses legacy band. The video and picture is 2k high quality and looks great. Even with high movement it captures it very well. The sound capture is alright , id say right in the middle, you can make out what is being said / heard however its misses the low tones. I especially love how there is an SD card to locally store the videos and pictures. This is one of the best features! You can use this and not have to worry about paying for a cloud subscription if you do not wish to. You can also share the video/picture which allows you to send out if needed. The application gives a ton of functionality that I was very impress with and provided an easy to navigate menu to get through all the features. I especially loved the permission share with family members using the TP-Link ID email. You also have the ability to enable RTSP protocol for NVRs or NAS which is a great feature to have. The software was really responsive and on target for motion detection and tracking. It almost has full 365 motion which really prevents blind spots. The software also allows for communication and alarm settings. The best part is the privacy mode that is clearly defined and when enabled shows to ensure you are set to private when needed. Overall this is a great product and cannot recommend this enough for anyone who is needing an indoor security camera. This has a ton of multi purposes and great features that will make this last for quite a while.

I have a few indoor and outdoor cameras setup in my home, but all of those are fixed. With traditional cameras you need to find a good place to install it to try to get the best view of the area you want to see. This Tapo camera gives so much more flexibility to where you can install it, and far superior coverage of what you can see. The actual setup process could no be easier. You scan the QR code to get to the app in either the App Store on Apple devices of Play Store on Android. I installed it on my Android phone. The app walks you through the steps to get the camera setup and connected to your Wi-Fi network. After setup I was a bit disappointed with one thing. The camera doesn’t have any built in memory. You have the option of installing a microSD card to save videos and photos, or you can option for Tapo Care Premium Service. They offer a free 30 day trial of this Premium service which gives you 30 days of video clip history, and rich notifications with snapshots. After the 30 day trial you are looking at $3.49 a month or $34.99 annually. The service seems pretty good especially since you can have multiple Tapo Cameras connected for the same price. Something else worth noting here is that the camera can connect to Google Home, Apple Homekit, and Amazon Alexa allowing you to connect the Tapo to your smart home setup. The camera offers color night vision, very quick auto tracking of subjects, virtual fences, sound and light alarms with 2-way audio, and a privacy button if you want to disable the camera. The AI auto tracking is amazing, it not only tracks the subject around 360⁰, but is able to identify it. This is a great little camera the 360⁰ AI auto tracking is great. We have a open floor plan so this camera is able to capture my kitchen, living room, back door, and front foyer area as well as the hallways leading to my bedrooms. If you are looking for a great camera to start or complete a home security setup this would be a good investment. Just remember you will need to get a microSD card to save video, or give the Tapo Care Premium service a try.

The TP-Link Tapo Security Pan/Tilt Wi-Fi Camera is a solid choice for monitoring inside your home, and keeping an eye on your pets. The 2K resolution will make sure you can see every detail. The camera does not have any onboard storage memory, but you can initially start out with a 30-day trial of Tapo Care, which is an unlimited cloud storage. You can also use a micro SD card, or both. At least one of these options are required if you want to be able to capture and playback any motion that was detected. The camera also has a built in AI feature that can tell you if the motion is a person, an animal, car, or something else. It can also detect a cats meow and other things. The Tapo Camera can also be set to track the detected motion. This camera can also be mounted to the ceiling and comes with the hardware to do this, and you can also invert image in the app to compensate for this. Overall it's a great choice for an in home security camera. Likes: 1.) Motion tracking 2.) AI notifications 3.) Pan and Tilt Dislikes: 1.) No onboard storage

This is my first TP Link camera and so far I’ve been impressed with it. One of the big issues with smart devices is the integration of the product and the app and TP Link nailed it on this part. From unboxing to having your camera up and running takes 5 to 10 minutes at the most. There was no failure to discover the product or failure to setup, like I’ve dealt with some “smart devices”. Once you have the camera up and running, opening the app and viewing the live feed has been instant for me. No loading or waiting, just an instant live feed, this is the first camera brand that I’ve used that has done that. Using the camera TP Link allows for multiple types of motion detection, from just motion, person, pet, vehicle, different sound detection and others. These can all by turned on and off individually. If using this to look inward on your home, TP Link has a privacy mode which is nice and something all indoor cameras should have. The only negative for me is the night vision can’t be turned off, this is only an issue if you want to use this camera at a window looking outward. When using it like this you won’t be able to see anything outside at night due to the reflectivity of the night vision illuminator on the window. Overall, the TC73 is a great inexpensive indoor cam that is easy to use thanks to a well designed app.

This TP-Link - Tapo TC73 AI Home Security Pan/Tilt Wi-Fi Camera in White is the best indoor security cameras I have. I do have several, and this one tops them all. Here is why: first of all the picture is so clear. I put it in several rooms to test it, including the kitchen, where we have fluorescent lighting, and it didn’t mess the picture or video up at all. The AI feature is really cool. It recognized a person (me), and one of my dogs. It’s funny how it works. I really like that feature, but if you prefer for it not to tag you or your pet, that can be turned off in the app. The app is very important for this camera to work properly. You can essentially control everything in the app. You can move the camera any direction, you can pan horizontally and vertically, you can set a path to record doing that same thing. You can also place it in various places, because the cord is super long. The two-way sound is ok, but not excellent. It’s not to where you can’t understand it, but some improvements could be made. The Lena quality in the camera is fantastic. The mechanics of the camera is also fantastic. The application that you download to use with the camera is so very nice. It even lets you do and control things outside of the camera(s). Very nice setup and I’d recommend it in a heartbeat.

Good camera, local storage and optional cloud

This is a good and affordable indoor camera. It has a 2K sensor, far and near IR nightlight, 2-way audio and pan-scan. What interested me most in getting this camera is that is has native Apple Home support, and it works: Using Apple Home, from an iPhone, one scans the code on the back of the camera and within a few minutes, Apple Home configures the camera including Wi-Fi credentials. All of this without using any other app nor creating any other accounts. If one subscribes to iCloud, it uses it for storing recordings (HKSV). Apple Home is also used to configure when to record and what to detect. It works very well. However, if one wants to upgrade firmware, configure Pan-Scan auto tracking (Where the camera automatically rotates to follow movement) one has to download the TP-Link Tapo app and create an account. The TP-Link Tapo app is fairly simple to use and works well. It has the usual notification settings, package, vehicle, human and pet detection, configurable recording and privacy zones. The camera has a MicroSD slot for local storage. That's optional. There is also the option of cloud recording subscription for which TP-Link advertises it uses Amazon AWS, not its own servers, in an attempt to appease privacy concerns. It also integrates with Amazon Alexa and Google Home. Both services are straightforward. On Amazon Alexa, it also works from the phone app as well as Echo devices with screens and Fire TV. On Google Home, the camera does not show up from the Google Home App (even on a Pixel tablet) but it does show up on a Google TV. The SmartThings integration connects to the TP-Link Tapo account but did not display the camera. There is also an IFTTT integration. Also, the camera supports local streaming via RTSP and ONVIF. This comes disabled from the factory but can be enabled via the Tapo app, by creating a username and password. Connectivity is via Wi-Fi only, and 2.4G only, although it does support Wi-Fi 6 (AX) and WPA3. There is a privacy button on the camera, that when pressed it moves the camera inside the body, and the top of the camera becomes flat. Same can be accessed from the camera. The camera has a wall mount or ceiling bracket. It's a flat clip that attaches to the bottom of the camera. The camera is powered by a 12V barrel type plug, and comes with it's own wall adapter and long cable. There is no option to power it via USB, which limits how it can be installed. Overall it's a good indoor pan/tilt camera, with well thought of privacy. It supports common integrations including Apple Home, Google and Alexa as well as RTSP for local recording and microSD recording. The cloud offer is available via TP-Link but optional. The 2K sensor works well during the day and the night vision is fairly good (Black and white). Has two way-audio. Note that it can be a tad noisy when the camera moves and I don't like that it doesn't use USB for power. Price is reasonable for this type of camera.

I like TP-Link products. I have had an outdoor security camera from this company for as far back as about 6 or 7 years and to this day, it still works. I also have other devices such as WiFi extenders and even USB WiFi adapters from this company. Suffice to say, TP Link has some serious expertise when it comes to connected devices. This Tapo indoor security camera is in line with their other products, flashing a very simple installation and a very nice app. The box contains everything you need to install the camera, including a wall/ceiling mount. You can also simply put it on a stable surface. The power cable is generously long, which allows for some distance between the camera and the outlet. The camera looks very well made and operates very quietly. In terms of functionality, this security camera comes packed with a nice amount of options. It can recognize persons and pets, it can tilt manually left and right as well as up and down. It also features a very nice "patrol" mode which lets it perform sweeps horizontally or vertically. As an added bonus, it can also create a pretty amazing panoramic shot by assembling several pictures and tie them together. Beyond cloud storage and alerts, you can add a MicroSD card for local recording. TP-Link added a privacy mode which flips the camera down and prevents from recording or viewing the room it is installed in. Very nice. The camera itself can record at resolutions as high as QHD, which is more than enough to keep a sharp eye on what is going on. You can also use it to communicate thanks to a microphone and a built-in speaker. Frankly, this baby is packing so many useful options, it's hard to list them all, and all of them have their benefits. It can also be tied in with your smart home devices from Amazon, Google and Apple. I can only recommend the TP Link Tapo TC73 and award it 5 stars as it doesn't have any real flaws. Great product!

I'm pleasantly surprised with the performance of this camera. I have it mounted upside down on the ceiling of my basement. I am able to navigate to all areas of my basement using the app and the quality of the image is excellent. You can zoom in and pan very easily. I also like that I can store images on the local micro SD card rather than pay a fee and use the cloud. Very nice product.
