I have a 4000 sq ft home, 3 levels and the cable modem is in the basement. I always had weak signals on the upstairs level. I upgraded from a dual band D-Link DIR 825. I purchased 2 of the TP Link 1043ND from Best Buy. Both are hardware version 8, the most current. I also upgraded all antennas to the TP Link 8dbi indoor model. The basement router is primary and the second router I configured as a WDS (wireless distribution system) on the 2nd level. The speed and signal strength throughout the house is incredible. No need for 5GHz band, this screams and streams videos anywhere in the house. For about $150 total (with upgraded antennas) I have an amazing new set-up. Don't hesitate on this one. And if configuring a WDS, use the exact same model of router...there is not an industry standard.

I use this in my home with two laptops, 1 desktop along with about 4 smartphones. From time to time I may set up the ftp to accept files from friends or vice versa. What I find is if there is prolonged data transmission the router hangs and drops all connections. It takes a manual reboot to bring it back online.

    Drops wireless all the time

I was enticed to buy the TP-Link - Wireless-N Router with 4-Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch based on a lot of (mainly Amazon) positive reviews. In hindsight I should have read the reviews in more depth as the dropping wireless issues is a common post. In fact, many reviews had 3+ stars, YET had text that said "junk", etc. It seems like a few people posted positive reviews from the unboxing, and then later change their review to a poor one once they realized the TP-Link -Wireless-N Router with 4-Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch is a wireless signal dropper. I exchanged and purchased a D-link and I'm now issue free.
