I get 180 minutes and 180 txt messages for 3 months and it only costs me $17. I can run all the restaurant and hotel apps I need when traveling and even Google maps when needed.

As an avid android and Samsung user, I was really surprised at how completely basic (and un-customizable) this phone is! That said, it works fine for him - just be advised of this if you're planning to use this as your primary phone (and are a current android user).
