Not your typical Wayne movie
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.John Wayne plays a former college football coach who is down on his luck and raising his "too wise for her age" daughter. His ex-wife, who is somewhat responsible for his failure, contacts the state authorities with complaints, so a child protection worker (Donna Reed) enters the picture. Wanye takes a job at a failing Catholic college in danger of being closed down to impress the court that he is a good father. I had difficulty understanding all the ins and outs of college football-recruting, suppliers, and how the finances are run-so it took a while to understand what upset some of the characters. It was fairly well acted, but at times predictable. The movie does end abruptly and one must assume how it will really end. But as classic movies can be hard to come by, and as it wasn't too expensive, it wasn't a bad way to spend an evening.
