It doesn't quite reach the highs of their previous release High Violet, but there's plenty of gorgeous, melancholic tunes on the album. Demons, I Need My Girl, Sea of Love, Pink Rabbits, and especially Don't Swallow the Cap are the standouts.

I was really hoping this album was more along the lines of Boxer or Sad Songs For Dirty Lovers. Not so much it turns out. Expect to hear the low contrast trend that the National fell into after High Violet. It's hard to parse one song from another or really get a sense of where you are in the album. You listen to it and 45 minutes you realize it's over without ever feeling like you got anywhere.

Overall good record, not their best, but several very solid songs. Worth having in the collection.
