True Story is based on a true story. I really wanted to see this in theaters but it had a limited release and none of the theaters running the film were near me.
That aside, this is a fantastic movie! I think many people look at Jonah Hill and James Franco and think comedy, and sice this is a drama, it was overlooked. These guys killed it! Franco portrayed the serial killer in a goosebump chilling way that you will not soon forget, and Hill didn't miss a beat. The plus is the price. For such a new movie, it's a steal!

"Sometimes the truth is not believable but it does not mean it is not true." Mike Finkel (Hill) is an important and respected journalist for the New York Times. After a story he wrote is exposed as not true his like is ruined. While trying to decide what to do next, he receives a call saying that a man named Christian Longo (Franco) killed his wife and children and said his name was Mike Finkel. After traveling to meet Christian, Mike decides to write a book with and about him, while at the same time trying to decide if Christian is innocent or if he really did do the horrible things he is accused of. This is a flat out an amazing movie. The acting is great, as expected, but the fact that this is a true story makes it that much more engrossing. You spend the entire movie wondering, as Mike does, about Christian's story. One minute you think he is innocent, and the next you think he is guilty. The constant flip-flopping last until the very end of the movie and that also keeps you absorbed in what you are watching. This is a movie I could go on and on about, but I will just end with watch this. Right now. Overall, a flat out a terrific movie that will keep you engrossed and involved all the way to the end. I loved it. I easily give this an A+.

Hill,Franco plays Christian Longo, a man on the FBI's most wanted list accused of murdering his wife and three children in Oregon. He hid in Mexico using the identity of Michael Finkel, a journalist played by Hill The film premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival and was released theatrically on April 17, 2015, in the United States. The whole fall and winter of 2001 was a litany of bad news for many Americans, starting of course with the horrors of September 11, but then, for those of us in Portland anyway, made somehow more horrifying by the pre-Christmas discovery of a murdered family just dumped in the water off of Oregon's scenic coast. The Longo story dominated the local news here for a long time, and while the Finkel angle never received any undue attention, the entire saga of this preppy looking murderer was front page and lead story fare for months. True Story plays a little fast and loose with some facts, making its title a bit questionable, but one of the film's more daring gambits is trying to "humanize" Longo, at least in terms of his relationship with Finkel. The film never successfully coalesces its thesis that these two are somehow peas in a pod, but True Story still offers excellent opportunities for both Hill and Franco in roles far removed from some of their more whimsical comedic personae. Technical merits are generally strong and with caveats noted, True Story comes Recommended.

Stellar performances by both Franco and Hill. Fans of both know these two can bring us to tears because we're laughing so hard at the foolish things they either say or do in their films, but seeing them both in this more serious role was just as good. In a different way, of course. Like most crime/drama films the movie starts off a little slow, but as the story unfolds you will definitely come to enjoy and appreciate it.

If you like movie that make you think (i.e. gone girl, inception, and shutter island) this is for you. Good crime drama. Also "True Story" is actually a true story. The movie is based off of the book. James Franco does a great job playing his role, then again he always does. This is another movie where Jonah Hill proves again he is an actor worth serious roles, not just comedy.

When disgraced New York Times reporter Michael Finkel meets accused killer Christian Longo--who has taken on Finkel's identity--his reporting job morphs into an unforgettable game of cat and mouse. Based on actual events, Finkel's relentless pursuit of Longo's true story encompasses murder, love, deceit, and redemption.

I mean the movie is interesting, and it's cool to see both of these guys as serious actors instead of goofball comedians, but while its plot and dialogue is interesting, the story itself feels like it builds a climax that turns out to be a sparkler instead of a bang.

this film was interesting because you don't realize in the beginning how manipulating this killer is, as he tries to pin the murders of his children on his wife, LOW. and how he uses the disgraced NY Times reporter, all actors are good, script good, worth the buy.

Michael Finkel Played by Jonah Hill and Christian Logo played by James Franco. It's about digging for the truth, and trying to spot the liar, with the huge complication being that both parties feel the other is the one that's being dishonest. I feel the character of Michael's wife played by Felicity Jones was under-developed, this role certainly would of added to the over all film. I found the film to be very intriguing.

James show as to why he needs to be taken seriously as an actor here compared to his usual comedy movies. He did great and was effective in his role although Jonah Hill's character could have been given more justice if portrayed by a more credible actor

Not the greatest movie I have ever seen, but well worth watching. James Franco did an amazing job as the creepy convict, and pairs quite nicely with Jonah Hill in a more serious role. It was cool to see these comedic actors doing such dramatic roles.

Most people know Jonah Hill and James Franco for their comedic efforts. They are both very funny actors (see This is The End). However, this is a pure dramatic effort and both pull it off well. I was pleasantly surprised with True Story.

this movie blows you away that things like this really happens, however, the movie can be slow at times and leaves you questioning a few things, especially the writer and why he would stay in contact with this freak!

Franco pulls it off as a manipulative psychopath. Good to see Jonah Hill doing roles other than comedy, a man fallen from grace seeking redemption. Not an action movie but interesting to see these two characters interaction.

I enjoy James Franco and Jonah Hill and it was interesting to see them both in serious roles. The story was interesting, definitely more of a psychological thriller than an action packed movie. Not a bad watch.

This movie was very interesting and wasn't at all predictable. The ending was a bit on the weak side but all in all it was really good. I bought this movie in store and it was in good condition.

Went into this knowing nothing and was really impressed with the film. It is weird and creepy and you don't know what to expect up until the end. Good thriller with solid rewatch potential.
