We have an older Xbox so the head set doesn't work to its fullest. The only thing tha works is the mic. Directions only give you a diagram of the cords you need & no one can tell exactly what it is. I have been to best buy to buy the cord & to radio shack & both stores got it wrong. So instead of just putting it out in words now I have to try & call Xbox to see what I need to make these things work

This gaming headset is a must have for anyone who wants to immerse themselves into the game, but not disrupt those around you. The sound quality is good. It's not mind-blowing, but sounds good. The 5.1 Dolby surround sound is awesome. You can hear exactly where the footsteps, gunfire, or explosions are coming from. Although the ear cups are a bit small for my big ears, the headset overall is very comfortable. Set up was fairly easy and straight forward. Make sure you read, and follow, the instructions on syncing the headset. You can't just turn them on a go. If you follow the simple instructions you won't have any issues. However, it may take a few attempts to get the headset synced. Lastly, the dual band wi-fi is great. I have not encountered any interference while using this headset, and its nice not having a long cord connected to the console. Other cool features: detachable microphone if you just want sound, bass and treble booster, auto off feature to save the batteries and cool green blinking LED logo to indicate the headset is on. All in all an excellent headset and good features at this price point.

I bought these from BBY roughly 4 days ago to replace Trittion AX Pro that I broke. What steered me towards these were that they are wireless and the technology that they use to do it. These work off of the 2.4 and 5ghz wireless spectrum which is the same as your high end wireless N routers. Most people don't know what that really means for them. What it gives you is crystal clear sound from a good distance within the same room as the transceiver/decoder box. Travel outside of the room that your equipment is in and you get no sound. Really not a big deal since they are made for you to sit in front of your tv and XboX. The decoder box is surround sound so you end up with being able to hear all the effects of your game. Don't be fooled though into thinking the simulated surround these headphones produce is perfect. It doesn't say anywhere on the packaging whether it's Dolby 5.1 or 7.1 which really either way not a big deal these are designed for Xbox which is only 5.1 anyway. The surround is fun and works ok but it's gimmicky at best with the way it's produced. It uses two fairly decent size speakers and a Dolby digital decoder into tricking you brain into thinking your hearing things in surround. All the headsets do this except for Tritton Ax Pro's that use 5 individual speakers in each ear cup for true un -simulated surround. The headphones design is ok they are a little flimsy to be in the 159 price range but what your really paying for is the wireless technology. The ear cups are very well padded but very small in size. If you have small/medium ears these are perfect but if your ears are even a little on the large size forget about it. If you wear glasses these will need to come off to rest your ears because they will hurt from the cup pressing up against the stem of your glasses. The headphones themselves are adjustable to fit a larger head. The chat feature still requires you to plug a cable into the Xbox controller and the headset. Which is not a design flaw on Turtle Beaches part that has to do with Microsoft. The mic is removable for when you don't need chat so you can move it out of the way and make your headphones look more stylish. The headphones have setting to change Bass Boost and Treble out of the box they are set on flat so push the button a couple times to get the Bass or Treble setting you like. (read the instructions. On the decoder box there is a button for surround sound field which changes how distant the simulated speakers sound from your head. There are six choices try them out one at a time until you find the one your brain is tricked into thinking sounds like true surround sound. (again use the instruction booklet to help) Overall these are ok. I don't feel they are as good as some wired headsets in the same price range but again your paying to be wireless if that's important these are good. For me they are uncomfortable and are being returned. I am getting Tritton wired headset because I feel they have better build quality and overall sound. But that shouldn't be used to deter you from getting the x42 if having that wireless freedom is important to you. They work and you will enjoy them as long as you find comfort in wearing them. If you can only play for 15 min without taking them off for a break because the are making your ears sore I would return them asap and get a wired headset with bigger ear cups and true surround sound.

    Great Headsets, CLEAR SOUND

So a few things for everyone. First off is I had bought a pair of the XP500 and had to return them. This was because, for some god awful reason, TurtleBeaches "top of the line" headsets ran on a 2.4ghz bandwidth, which is the same as wireless networks and for someone that lives in an apartment this was bad. So I decided to try out the x42s instead. And I will say this. AMAZED! For those who say it broke recently, you must have tried really hard, or sat on it. Sound:These guys also have some great bass, I play Battlefield 3 with them constantly and I cannot emphasize how realistic the sound is on here, and if it is not enough treble or bass, there are presets that you can use to boost the treble and/or bass. Surround sound quality is also phenomenal, I won't tell you how many matches of Gun Game on Black Ops I have won because I could hear who was tied with me coming up behind me! You will never have to worry about getting knifed again! And for those who LOVE flying jets or helicopters in BF3 you can hear enemy vehicles flying from behind you as well! Oh and did I mention they are CLEAR. Thats right I have had NO CUTS OR AUDIO DROPS!! Design: VERY comfortable. And if you are a fellow with a big/long head these guys are adjustable too so no worries :). And these "ear muffs" or whatever you want to call them, go over my ears pretty well, so I can have them on for hours and it will not pinch on my ear and give me an ear ache! I have pretty big ears and this is something that I have had a problem with in the past with other headsets. Setup: Pretty easy. If you want Dolby Digital Surround(DDS) output, DO NOT use the audio output feature on your TV. This is because over 90% of TVs simply cannot process out in Dolby Surround. I reccomend using an HDMI output to your tv, and getting an audio adapter such as Mad Catz - Headset Adapter for Xbox 360. THIS IS FOR THOSE WHO DO NOT HAVE THE NEW XBOX 360s, the new ones have a digital audio output built into it. For those like me with older Xbox 360s, plug in the audio adapter to wear the component plug would normally go ( do NOT attempt to have the HDMI and Component plug plugged in at the same time. It will not fit.) and the HDMI in the other (this is if you want the best picture quality.) Then you have the already included optical audio out going from the xbox to the headset connector. The included instructions are pretty simple. Overall: Do not believe what others have wrote, these guys sound just as amazing as other headsets, if not better, and run on a superior frequency so audio drops are a thing of the past! And the built in mic monitoring ensure you are not yelling! And if you are still unsure best buy has a 30 day return policy, but I am positive you will not need to use it :).

The setup took me a few more minutes than I thought it would, the instructions aren't crystal clear on the pairing part. Once you get it figured out though it's not bad. The sounds is very good. You get a very rich sound, not too bassy or tinny. It doesn't have the mega bass that some may want but I think it has very accurate audio overall. It's nice that the receiver is USB powered, just use a usb port on your TV to power it, no extra AC adapter required. Detachable mic is expected but nice. Keep an eye out for sales, BB will usually price match in store. The list price is a bit high for what you get in my opinion, but these are definitely premium headphones. I've owned the XP400's as well and returned them for these. I find these to be more streamlined and simpler, less bulky and really just as good with the audio. I'd only get the XP400's if you need bluetooth, have big ears, and have to have built in rechargable batteries. For me: get the X42's, buy some Eneloop AAA's and you're good to go.
