This is the kind of movie that I would recommend to a friend, but not to a coworker. Now I want to talk about how I personally feel about the film. I think the first half of the movie is a perfect blend of comedy horror, which has become my favorite kind of horror. The dialogue throughout is masterful, challenging the likes of Quentin Tarantino. There are many unique concepts in this movie which is also a big plus for me. The weakest point in my opinion of this film is that it gets to a certain point where the story dramatically changes for the main character. When this happens I feel that the story is more disturbing than it is funny at that point. There are other characters and we see from their point of view at times, and sometimes that can be a comic relief. The problem is that by the end of the film some may feel too disturbed by the climax that they forgot about all the laughs and creeps they had in the first half of the movie. All in all I personally really like this movie, and I would recommend this to a friend. However I would not feel comfortable recommending this film to a coworker.

While not perfect, and not for everyone, Kevin Smith's Tusk is a great, quirky, weird body horror movie that will make you repeatedly say "I can't believe he went there." It gets a bit drawn out in the end of the second act, around the time that the Inspector (played by Johnny Depp and reminds me of Mr. Tudball from the Carol Burnett Show) comes in to deliver reams of exposition (a Kevin Smith staple, luckily, his dialogue is normally interesting), but the performances are solid and fun. The practical effects are creepy and extremely well executed, too. And I loved the use of Fleetwood Mac's famous song Tusk. Though originally written by Lindsay Buckingham to poke at Stevie Nicks and Mick Fleetwood's affair, you won't be able to hear the song in quite the same way after seeing this film. As a huge Fleetwood Mac fan, and a huge fan of horror, I can say that that doesn't bother me in the slightest.

    Smith's Rebound

After the studio flop that was Cop Out one had to wonder what and where director Kevin smith would go and do. He returned to cinema with the independent Red State, which gained a lot of praise. That film was also Kevin's first foray in to the genre of horror. Well, with Tusk he's at it again. In many ways Tusk is somewhat similar to Red State, another horror film, another independent undertaking, another critical success, and again, Michael Parks seems to steal the show. The premise is well documented when it comes to the how and why this movie was made. One thing that can be said is it has an original premise. Everyone's performances are on point and make for a film that'll be hard to forget after you get finished watching. Kevin Smith seems to be rejuvenated and on the rebound and cinema is better for it.

Away from the Weinstein's Bros, Kevin smith has managed to redefined himself as a filmaker, stepping away from his ViewdAsked universe for the second time, the first was with the crittically aclaimed Red State (also available on BD through Lionsgate) , Tusk is an entertaining comedic horroe film, sometimes it feels like a Twilight Zone episode, but a funny one and a certain superstar showing off on the third act make the film more enjoyable. Justing Long on top form again, gives a great performance while Michael Parks steals the show as the over the top heavy of the film. The BD comes with a beautiful red slip cover (on its first printing,BBY should stop putting a price sticker on the slips, it leaves glue on them). Lionsgate HomeEntertainment provides extras that will certainly entertain Mr Smith's fan.

One helluva fun and quirky horror film from one of my favorite directors! I was excited to hear that Kevin Smith was doing a horror film but a little worried as well. Do not go into this film expecting your typical Kevin Smith film as the film is not what you'd expect. From the pacing to the tone this is a whole new style for him. This is a film you would have expected to see playing the Grindhouse and Drive In Theaters back in the 80's. And that is a good thing! I wont go into it too much but grab a case of beer, your favorite liquor, some munchies (And things that cause munchies, Friends, And sit back for a fun couple of hours!

    Tusk is Bizarre

What an incredibly strange flick. I've been a Kevin Smith fan for years, but I've felt he hasn't been producing anything of high quality for awhile now. I think, despite it's flaws, Tusk is a huge step in the right direction. The film is very amusing, and surprisingly quite tense during the first half. The second half of the film is certainly goofier, but I personally loved the tonal shift. Not many filmmakers take chances these days, and whether or not the movie completely works, it's just so refreshing to watch something genuinely original. I'd recommend, but with slight caution.

    Campy Dark Film

As a fan of campy films, I thought this movie was actually pretty great and not as creepy or despairing as other reviewers stated. It laces humor with strangeness, not the other way around. Michael Parks, Johnny Depp, and even Genesis Rodriguez (specifically the close-up scene) did fantastic jobs in this film. Justin Long was pretty alright -- he just plays an overtly vulgar and crass character who becomes victim of Michael Parks's character. The movie is utterly ridiculous, but incredibly entertaining to watch. I do recommend this film.

I had no idea what this movie was about going into it. It starts of somewhat slow as a pod-caster takes a journey to Canada to interview a You-Tube sensation...but things go wrong from there and he ends out at the old home of a creepy old man who tells him stories of his life at sea.. what comes next is something you could never expect (if you have no idea what this movie is about) and it provides a unique shock that I haven't seen before! If you are looking for something "different" and "unique" in a horror tale, THIS is it!

A lot of people didn't like this movie, saying it was dumb and failed at horror. But I think Kevin Smith's intention was dark comedy through and through, and he nailed it. It's definitely a parody of horror, and I was laughing throughout it. This movie is also great for recommending to people who have never heard of it just to see their reactions. I'd definitely suggest watching it without knowing what it's about if you don't know already.

I went into this movie not really expecting too much. I was greatly surprised though. I really enjoyed the movie and thought it was a great entry into the world of horror for Kevin Smith, granted that it had it's short comings and could improve. I thought it had plenty of unexpected moments. The big reveal was an eye opener. Justin Long did a good job in the role that he had and Michael Parks was spot on for the antagonist role. The part where Johnny Depp entered it kid of took and eerie tonal shift that would have been better left out, but I think other than that 10 min span the overall of the movie is very good. I could have done with a little more suspense and horror, but I'm sure that Smith will improve with his next horror outing (given that there is a next time). I thought this was a pretty great movie and with a little more it could have been even better. Totally worth a watch though. I would recommend to the majority of people because it tows the lined between horror and suspense and should be easily watched by the general population.

Kevin Smith's (Clerk, Dogma, Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back) first attempt at a horror flick based on a real-life Craigslist posting he came across. It is an extremely odd and borderline disturbing movie about a Podcaster visiting a recluse in Canada. There are some lulls in the movie, but see it through to the ending. It is definitely worth it.

Right off the bat I's say this is a solid 4.5 stars! This idea from one of Kevin Smiths pod cast as a kind of a goof... but it morphed into the outing. It's a bit creepy and has got some serious dark humor in it. This movie is well written and acted very well... Michael Parks is absolutely the best in this flick, and that alone is worth the purchase price.

Probably the weirdest movie ever made. Messed up torture movie but still funny. It's good to see Haley Joel Osment back as an actor, he is spot on as the "best friend" character. I feel Kevin Smith has been going through a quality drought for a while but Tusk stands out and almost makes itself critic proof cause of the ridiculous premise.

Tusk Gores You With Emotion and Shocks

Tusk is a dramatic horror comedy that features some of the best acting I have ever seen in a Kevin Smith movie. At times it is classic, Smith style profane and juvenile humor, but the emotional punches are there. The movie itself becomes a unique and fun shock to the eyeballs, balancing between fun and serious, I found the movie pretty entertaining.

I like this new direction for Kevin Smith moving into this indie horror genre, because they still feel like feature films. I am a fan of Mr. Smith in general and this is an interesting ride. Great cast- watch and see for yourself. Also if you are a fan of his podcasts, there are a lot of Easter Eggs to find!

Yes, this is a Kevin Smith film. No, it is not the standard Smith comedy. This was quite different. This is a very entertaining jump in a different direction. It won't be your new favorite horror, your new favorite comedy, or your new favorite Smith film, but don't pass it up.

I thought this was a really great movie. It may be a bit too talie for some but the dialogue really sets up the feel of the movie and gives you a sence of what really is going on. It does take a long while to get to the real "meat" of the story but I think it's worth the wait.
