About 15 mins. of action. Most of the time was spent on the ground. For a movie that was over 2 hors long there should have a lot more action. Don't waste your time or money on this flop.

Story opens in 1949 – An American attorney and former U.S. Army Air Force officer Major/Lt. Col. Harvey Stovall (Dean Jagger) is vacationing in Great Britain when he notices a familiar Toby Jug in an English antique shop. He buys it and bicycles out to an abandoned airfield, the former USAAF station, RAF Archbury, where he served as the Group Adjutant of the 918th Bomb Group during World War II. The scene then back-flashes to RAF Archbury, circa 1942. Col. Keith Davenport (Gary Merrill), commanding officer of the B-17 Bomb Group stationed at RAF Archbury, becomes “too-close” to his men and is deeply troubled by their combat losses. He is relieved of command by Maj Gen Pritchard (Millard Mitchell), the Wing Commander, who is convinced his Bomb Group Commander is at the “breaking point” and Maj. Gen. Pritchard reassigns his Operations Officer Brig. Gen. Savage (Gregory Peck) to command the struggling Bomb Group. After Savage assumes command of the Bomb Group he reassigns Lt. Col. Ben Gately (Hugh Marlowe), the Groups Executive Officer, to the “Leper Colony” – Savages place for those he considers substandard. This story is a creditable portrayal of the American Army Air Forces European experience in WWII. They won the air war but the price of freedom was high!
