Great Ultra series, “meh” DVD quality by Millcreek

Ultraman Nexus was one of the more innovative series from Tsubaraya productions, glad to see it finally released in the US. DVD authoring is mediocre with video compression compromising picture quality, a blow to many of the Millcreek standard definition DVD releases of various Ultra series by squeezing too much content across fewer discs. Fortunately the quality for Nexus is not as bad as the DVD boxsets for Tiga, Dyna and Gaia. Great series overall with serialized storytelling, cool VFX that has always been Tsubaraya’s trademark since reinvigorating the franchise during the Heisei era and an impressive score by Kenji Kawai! I only wish Millcreek hadn’t regressed so badly with their quality control of the franchise. In spite of the PQ caveat Ultraman Nexus is recommended.
