Filmed this to prove it to the store and caught it in it's off and on cycle 4 times in less than 3 minutes. Store would not exchange because I had purchased the set over 30 days before the problem began. They are having a go at "fixing" the issue for me now. Also, the set requires you, when you turn it on, to stop and choose which input you want to take. Aggravating that it can't just be set to default to the DirecTV input unless you actually want something else. I would not purchase this set again. At least not without paying "protection" money to Best Buy for decent warranty protection.

Posted .Thank you for reporting the issue with your television. We’re glad to hear that your technical issues are being handled at the store. Regarding your concern about having the change the source each time you power on the television, this can easily be changed in the television menu choosing Home -> Settings -> System -> Power -> Power On. Choose the input you want the television to default to at power-on. In your case, you can choose the input your DirecTV is connected to, or you may choose “Last Used TV Input” which is a great choice if you have multiple devices connected to the TV. These instructions are on page 55 of the user’s manual for the unit, and show pictures of the menu for clarity. –Jason, Insignia Products

The TV interfaces with everything nicely. It has an optical audio output that gives great sound with the proper adapter ("sold separately"). It has the ability to add other Smart TV apps to the lineup provided - I added PBS very easily. There was one small problem. I have a VCR/DVD combo which I hooked up to the TV with an HDMI cable. The TV stretched the VCR's 4:3 aspect ratio to fill the 16:9 screen, and there was no setting on the TV to fix it. The workaround to get it to display the video in the right proportion was to use the RCA inputs/outputs when playing VHS tapes. I kept the HDMI cable attached also for viewing widescreen DVDs and gave the two inputs two different names on the Home menu. My only complaint is that it doesn't have enough HDMI inputs; I could use one more for my Chromecast device.
