Did extensive research before deciding on Velodyne Digital Drive 12 subwoofer to complement existing high-end (Focal Electra 1028be speakers; Simaudio Moon amplification/CD) stereo set and I am extremely happy with this decision! I am predominantly listening to classical music at moderate sound levels, and what a difference the subwoofer makes! The soundstage becomes more profound, the basses and tympani shine, and in particular for life recordings a certain atmosphere can be discovered. The speaker itself has a very neutral, musical sound, is a well-manufactured beauty and blends in perfectly (actually the unit is less bulky than I thought). Set-up was a breeze with the provided microphone and the auto calibration process. After a careful aural check of the sound spectrum via a standard stereo calibration CD, I did not even bother using the available customized set-up options. The remote comes in handy if I like to adjust the sound level ad hoc (manyPop/Rock/Jazz CD are so heavy on the bass that you don't need a subwoofer, anyway). Yes, it is pricey, but the ears are happy!
