Customers recognize the Open SKU's ease of use, fitness tracking capabilities, and its range of features as significant strengths. tries to do too much...

Prior to buying the Apple Watch, I had been using a Pebble for about a year (first the original, then upgraded to the Pebble Time). I was on iOS, so I was not able to respond to texts, and there were a few other areas lacking integration because of Apple's closed ecosystem. I really enjoyed the convenience of a smart watch, so I bought the Apple Watch (once they discounted it by $100) to really give it a fair shot and see which platform I preferred. The build of the Apple Watch was great, obviously. The presentation and unboxing were very much "Apple". But once I strapped it to my wrist, turned it on, and paired it, the fun was over. Right off the bat, the complexity was overwhelming. I am a software developer and I love gadgets, so I'm a proficient technology user, but there were just too many controls and settings. I ended up just mirroring all of the apps on my phone and plowed ahead. I then immediately figured out how to silence any sound coming from the watch. I hate when my phone goes off in public, much less my watch. I then tested out the much-touted "haptic feedback", but could barely feel a thing. I prefer my watch to be slightly loose, so this may have been the problem. I turned on the "prominent haptic" setting, and it ended up feeling pretty much exactly like the vibration of my Pebble. So far, not impressed. I then proceeded to look through the watch faces and customized a couple with the complications that I preferred. They were nice, but there wasn't a lot to choose from. It was at this point that the screen going on and off was already starting to bother me. Not only could I not just glance down at the watch to see the time, but with the screen being very much like a phone screen, when it did light up, it was so glaring and obvious. On, off. I'd move around a bit...on, off. Light up, go dim...over and over. It was very distracting. I then decided to make myself a cup of coffee...this would enable to me to try out a timer, as I use an AeroPress and need to watch the time go by to perform different steps. The easiest way to accomplish setting the timer was using Siri, which worked fine, but I would rather not have to speak the command just to set a timer. I'm sure I could have done it another way, but searching and swiping and looking at tiny app dots just seemed like too much, so I went with Siri. The timer started, and.....the screen went dark. Huh. I need to see the time...the whole time. Is there a glance for that? Do I have to put the timer in a complication on the watch screen? Do I have to have Siri tell me the time? I just want to see the time!! I gave up and used my microwave timer. I guess if I just needed the timer set for a specific time and just be alerted at the END of that time, it would be fine. But I needed to do perform steps along the way, so I came away frustrated. I then decided to try out having Siri play me some music. I tried asking her to play Adele. Every time, she would try to look up Adele on the internet instead of playing her music from iTunes. I tried a couple of other artists which were hit and miss, but each time I tried Adele, no success. I let some music play, and then wanted to skip a track. I had to wake up the watch, swipe up on the screen, swipe through glances to get to the music one, and then skip the song. All the while, seeing the precious battery percentage getting lower and lower. If I wanted to then change the volume a few seconds later, it was back to the wake up the watch, swipe up for glances, swipe over to the music, and change the volume. It felt like it was so much faster and easier on my phone. I played around a bit more with the other apps, but pretty much all of them were extremely slow to load. I decided to put the watch away for the evening, and give it one more shot the next day. The next day I read some of the manual online and tried out a few more features, but again, the processes all felt overwhelming while the performance felt underwhelming. I just came away frustrated after every attempt to accomplish something. So after 2 days, I took back the watch. I really wanted to like it, but I just...didn't. Not at all. Not one bit. I really think that Pebble has nailed what a smartwatch should be. No, the build quality is not as great. No, the screen is not a touchscreen and it's not all bright and perfect. But it's a watch first that can do other handy things as well. They understand that a watch interaction should only last a couple of seconds at a time. A glance to see the time with an always on screen. I glance at a notification, and a simple button press to dismiss it. A battery that lasts for days, so I feel like I can use any function available and not worry about how much battery I'm using. I can leave the music app up on the screen, and if I want to change a song or the volume...press a button. Quick and easy. There are quick launch buttons for your favorite apps...one button press and you're there. I can use it in the shower to control my podcasts...no touch screen, so the water doesn't bother the screen. I can use the buttons with gloves on. I can sleep in it and use it as my alarm clock because the battery lasts for a week. I can press the button for snooze from under my pillow because with physical buttons, I don't have to look at the screen and swipe around to control it. I can pick between thousands of watch faces and if I feel like it, just make my own. Perhaps if I would have started with the Apple Watch as my first smartwatch, I might love it because I had nothing else to compare it to. But for me and my money, I'd rather have a Pebble any day. It does things my phone can't do (go into the shower, the pool, screen on all the time, vibrate to wake me up in the morning) -- it feels like there's a standalone purpose to it, not just as a companion device that only performs the same functions as my phone. I'm sure the Apple Watch will improve over time like all Apple devices, but I really think they should try to do less instead of more.

The Apple watch looks great and functions exactly as expected. If you love your iPhone you'll feel like you're cheating, because you'll only want to use the watch and all its cool features.

I purchased the apple watch mostly to track my fitness and use a 3rd party app for my races. I am amazed everyday by the new things I learn my watch can do. I love the color combination :)

I got this as a present for Christmas and it was a complete surprise. I'm new to the iPhone world and thought the watch would complicate things. It's actually simple and convenient to use.

Bought this for my wife for Christmas. She loves it and it's a good looking watch imo. With how much a nice (non-smart) watch can cost, it doesn't seem like it's all that expensive either.

Bought this for my mom. She loves it! You can access pretty much all of your apps on your watch. Color is nice. Great watch to keep track of activities, calorie burn, heart rate and more.

Love the apple watch. Didn't need the larger screen and this is still usable. Had a pebble watch before and it died in less than a year. I got the apple care plan just in case for this.

My kids are tech nerds. Not sure where they get that from. :-) The watch was a Christmas gift to them and they figured it out shortly after opening. They love it and use it all the time.

A gift for my bride who will gain more from the convenience of the Apple Watch than me. I love mine but this watch working hand in hand with iPhone 6S makes the daily grind less so. Great efficiency in calendar, messages and email reviews. Phone messages are now very manageable in meeting situ.

I opted for the Apple Watch after trying the FitBit surge. The battery life isn't as good (with color screen and so many extra functions), but that is offset by the increased versatility.

Bought it as a gift for my wife. Does what it's suppose to, however the battery life is too short. Sound quality when using to talk on the phone is spotty as well. The apps you can get on it is good, and like most apple products the interconnectivity with other apple devices is the best part.

I like the design , color , and the comfortable fit. I enjoy the video's on You Tube. I am still teaching myself how to use all the features.. I wish I had more time to spend on features and interfacing with my Iphone 6S. It would be nice if Best Buy had a class to teach all the possible uses.
