I really enjoyed playing Until Dawn. I'm a big fan of Square Enix games, and I can honestly say they have delivered once again. Until Dawn offers a unique gaming experience of the sort we've come to expect from the studio that brought us Heavy Rain. An extremely satisfying mix of atmosphere and tough decisions. Each character's actions affect not only them, but the other characters and the over-all direction of the story as well. Can be slow at times in the beginning, but definitely worth the play.

I have two kids...3 and 1...I love love love video games and my ps4 but i don't have a lot of time to play it. so i tend to go for more action or point-click type games. i love to have fun with games but i just don't have time to build up a weapons stash, negotiate with enemies, strategize operations and plans...i need to be able to play my game while my kid takes a nap for the next hour and a half. i may not get back to it for another week.
so what i love about this game is (as sad as it is to say) there's not a lot of thinking required. it's a choose-your-own-adventure type game. what helps is there is an intense atmosphere and the graphics are amazing! when i first paused the game and saw a closeup of peter stormare, it was unbelievable!! i'm a big horror film fan so to see the stale teenage slasher idea be used in an interactive way makes this pretty fun! and i don't have to remember what happened in the last chapter because , guess what, much like a serial tv drama, it reminds with a "last time, in until dawn" before you start the game...thank you!!
my only downside is the controls. it's somewhat smooth but not perfect. much easier to navigate than some of the other camera-fixed games that change position (much like the resident evil or fatal frame series) but still pretty solid. also, i encountered a lot of skipping in the audio...not sure if that's my soundbar or perhaps my system, but kept happening quite frequently.
but overall...pretty excellent in my opinion.

This game plays like an interactive movie with real choices that have real consequences. It's fun. It's unique. It's also a Must Own for people who enjoy story driven games. Horror movie fans should also enjoy this.
Instead of cuddling with your partner to watch a movie, pick this game up & play through it together. A Horror Movie Video Game! Who lives? Who dies? It's all up to you!

I've played about 2 hours of the game and so far I'm liking the game.
It's not your typical video game. There's a heavy emphasis on the butterfly effect so every choice you make affects the outcome the story. A few options would come up, you make your choice and see what transpires.
I grew up watching horror movies so I don't scare easy. Playing this game had me jumping a few times. I guess I'm more into the game since you are part of it as opposed to just sitting there watching.

One of the best games I have played this year. The visuals and audio are great, I highly recommend playing with surround sound or a headset if you really want to get sucked into the game and get scared. Additionally, the game controls/mechanics are great and I never found myself getting frustrated, besides with a decision I made. Until Dawn reminds me of those 90's horror movies like Scream and those other teen horror movies of the time.
This is a interactive decision based game with quick time events. Without spoiling the game, you fallow a group of teenagers who go to a resort for a weekend, until everything goes wrong and creepy things start to happen. From scene to scene you control different characters, progressing their story by making story altering decisions (butterfly effect), which is the best part, since the game can end in multiple ways. One of the great aspects of the game is the fact that other characters will remember some of the decisions you made.
The best part of this game is the fact that this is perfect to play by yourself or with multiple people that can help make decisions for you. With that in mind, it is a single player game. Additionally, since this is not a hardcore gamer game, it makes for a great game to play with those who are not that big into video games. Until Dawn is a must play game, you won't regret it.

I really like Cabin in the Woods style horror films. Being able to play one was awesome.
Your decisions actually matter. The game can end with everyone alive. The game an end with everyone dead. Decisions made between chapters affect the upcoming chapter's environment.
One of my favorite PS4 games.

Until Dawn has a great story, and while mostly relies on "jump scares," it still delivers an eerie atmosphere with excellent character design, decent voice acting, and a spooky, snow filled mountain environment.
Pros:
- best graphics on console so far
- lots of choices to make
- amazing atmosphere
- replayability
cons:
- not all choices seem to really matter
- due to plot twists, story might lose some of the suspense on 2nd + playthroughs

I just beat this game last night (bought it Tuesday). Of course I was playing constantly 2-3 hours a night. The game has ten chapters. I'd think it's an hour each.
Though you can start all over and change up your choices, and I hear from reviews and even the developer there are many many different ways playing this game and different outcomes, referring the butterfly effect. I did do this a bit last night after beating it the first time. Will continue again later today.
It's a great game I'd say it's a 8-9 across average from many review sites. It has great graphics and dynamic lighting, especially with the flashlight and the shadows. My only small gripe, which I'm sure supermassive games will patch, is the frame rate just at a few times feels like it drops below 30 fps, like 25. It's like the framerate almost compared to broken Assassins Creed Unity, which had crashes and glitches. Until Dawn has yet to crash or quit or had any glitches on me. This game I believe was 4-5 years in production as it started off as a PS3 game using the move controller, but they changed all that. And when I still had my PS3 once I was wondering when and if this game is ever coming out.
I'm looking forward to whatever DLC they have in store next, and new updates.

Great voice acting and some tense moments make for one of the best horror games I have played in a long time. It will take a couple of times of playthroughs to see everything but not necessary for enjoyment. The story is typical B horror fare but fun with just maybe one too many twists, It is a fun game and it was worth my purchase..

Until Dawn is your typical horror story with some decent gameplay twists. Can you keep a group of friends alive until dawn? Gameplay consists of mainly dialog choices and weirdly timed Quick Time Events. Some of the dialog choices you make can directly save or end someone's life. The consequences can be delightfully gory.
Graphics 4/5
-- Character models reside in the Uncanny Valley but the backgrounds and effects look absolutely amazing. Everything is darkly lit and the entire game takes place at night except for flashback sequences that take place at the end of each chapter. A lights out approach is recommended.
Protip No. 1: Always be on guard for QTEs. They pop up at random times and usually lead to dire consequences if failed.
Sound 4/5
-- Old cottages creak, doors slam, and the wind whistles, and all of it sounds incredible. I enjoyed both headphones and surround sound while I played. Neither had a sizable advantage.
Controls 3/5
-- The developers must have loved Resident Evil because everyone in this game moves like its 1996. Quick time events run a bit quick but they're still manageable if you stay on your toes. The rest of the game plays like a visual novel.
Protip No. 2 -- This is my first review. Thank you for reading.
Fun Factor 5/5
-- This game was a blast from start to finish. I'm already thinking about a second play through.

This game is a 10/10 for me personally, and a high 8+ at least for any horror movie fan.
Without spilling any spoilers, the graphics are amazing, the play mechanics are easy to learn, and offer a challenge - and the story is top notch, and that's why you are playing a game like this - story.
You will develop a connection between some of the characters, hate the others, and always have an opinion on what's going on. Even when you decide to veer from what you would normally chose, the game still bites you.
I can't wait until a sequel or something similar is developed again by the same company.
Online - there is none. No Co-Op or anything. This is the type of game you sit around with your friends or GF/BF - have a few drinks, and then be prepared for epic storytelling, breath taking (literally, you will die!) effects, and loads of secrets to discover.

Until Dawn is one of the best games I have played in a while. Even though it is a little on the short side (I was able to play the whole game in one sitting), all the combinations of the different outcomes you can possibly get by the choices you make adds to the replay value. I definitely recommend buying this game.

I enjoyed this more than I expected. After finishing my first playthrough, I can't wait to go back and rethink and change some of my choices. It very much is like a horror movie styled Heavy Rain, but it would appear the choices and consequences are even more complex in Until Dawn. Most of the game is presented in a very cinematic style with no HUD, which I thought was unique and enjoyed, and everything graphically is phenomenal. Character models, clothing, environments, facial animations are all jaw-dropping at times. Since this isn't open-world, they could really push the graphics and they did. Also the voice work is about as excellent as you can get. If Heavy Rain was a gaming experience you enjoyed, and horror and/or horror movie tropes are also something you like, this is definitely something you should try.

The story line for this is actually altered by your decisions. It is altered by your fears, and it alters you!. The way this game is set up is meant to make you feel like you are watching episodes of a horror TV show, and the real you is reporting to Therapy to analyze your actions in the game. Or are you actually one of the characters in the game or is that Therapy session even real? Is it really just a game, well it is, but they keep posing this question to you throughout the little intermissions. I think the best part of this game is that the collectibles actually have a purpose in the playing of the game. Some give you hints or show you possible outcomes, or they show you unchangeable aspects of the game. Though the idea is to survive and save everyone, the game does not let you save everyone but there is an allotted amount of people that can be saved, or you can take a darker route and get them all killed off. With so many options in this game I will definitely be playing this game twice or thrice.

A great title if you like QuickTime Event based story games mixed with a little bit of decision making. Everything that you decide changes the outcome of the story, allowing for much replay value. Superb acting and voice acting, with A+ Hollywood talent. If you like the Horror movie type of drama and story telling then this game is a must have for you...

Having Heavy Rain withdrawals? Did Quantic Dream disappoint with Beyond? Should I stay or should I go? Right or left? Many of these questions are pondered when talking about Until Dawn. If you are into the many cinematic video games, the Playstation brand has offered for nearly a decade, then yes, you should pick up this game. The game tells a B-horror movie story with eight characters. Each character embodying your horror archetypes. The ditzy hottie, the innocent with a consistent moral compass, the jock, the black dude... The list goes on. However, Until Dawn manages to change the formula and actually add depth to the characters, thanks to some solid acting and the use of the engine that powered the stunningly beautiful Killzone:Shadowfall. Not only did they make sure to establish quality character, Supermassive games lets you alter the characters' relationships through unique dialogue choices. The meat and potatoes of the game is actually the butterfly effect system, which changes constantly with just about each decision and dialogue choice made. The system allows you to choose your story. I beat the game and the last act might make it or break it for some, but if you like horror and you appreciate some of the subgenres of it, then Until Dawn is for you.

Until Dawn is a PS4 exclusive title that puts the player in control of 8 friends who return to a family lodge in the dead of winter to re-connect. The player will search for clues and try to survive the night while solving simple puzzles and reacting to QTEs.
The graphics in this game are top notch and some of the best seen on the system yet. The lighting and character models really feel like you are watching a movie at times with the way the in game camera frames a scene.
The story is paced well and pays homage to horror films of the past, keeping players on the edge of their seat through chases and jumps scares as they try to keep the 8 character alive throughout.
Every choice the player makes can effect the outcome of a scene, where the story goes, who lives and dies. The Butterfly Effect mentioned in the game features branching paths that allows for major replayablity to see how different the story will be based on your choices.
Highly recommended for any horror fans on the PS4!

Until dawn offers an unique experiance to gamers through its choose your own path gameplay. Horror fans will love this. The graphics are amazing, the voice acting is well done, and it offers replay value. All 8 characters can all live, all die, or any combination of the two based on your choices. One playthrough offers about 8-10 hours of story.

My girlfriend and I love playing games like Heavy Rain, Beyond Two Souls, Life is Strange, The Walking Dead (telltale) etc
Until Dawn is the best out of all of those games listed. The choices in the game matter, and don't feel cheap. There is enough variations in the game due to different choices that we immediately replayed the game to get the best ending.
The controls are responsive. Yes there are a lot of QuickTime Elements, but they're done in the most creative and least frustrating way I've ever seen.
This is one of the best looking and sounding games ever. There are quite a few very familiar faces, and the details are so well done that you'll immediately recognize them from movies and TV.
It took us around 10 hours for the first playthrough. We missed around 25% of the collectibles due to the branching narrative, so there's great replay value.
Also it is HIGHLY recommended you play with a Playstation Camera Connected!
