So I started this series with no expectations and I was blown away. The cast of characters were highly enjoyable and the story was pretty gripping. Some of the effects for the battles look dated at this point, but it doesn't take much away from the brilliant story. This is also a great starting point if you want to go further into the Utawarerumono universe. It serves as a prequel to Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception and Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth video games. This series is a must watch if you plan on playing those games, which I would also highly recommend. Though the story does continue past the series though the video games, it is perfectly fine as a standalone title to add to your anime collection. Highly recommended.

I picked up this set because I wanted something new to watch. I'd read a few basic reviews saying it was a good series. It was not what I was expecting. The first half is the better half of the series, then it just got strange. It is a watch once series.
