A word of warning about this visually stunning movie, it's very violent. With that said, this is one of Mads Mikkelsen's (bad guy in Casino Royale) best performances. Besides the stunning cinematography, the movie is unique because there is no dialog. That's right, none! This movie may not be for everyone but I was mesmerized by it. It's the story of a man enslaved in Nordic society and all he must do to survive.

Nicolas Winding Refn's "Valhalla Rising" (2009) arrives on Blu-ray courtesy of IFC Films. The only bonus feature on the disc is an original theatrical trailer for the film. The Canadian region A Disc released back in 2011 contains a 23 minute featurette that is not included on this release. The film itself does not lend to the mainstream crowd. It has the same tone as the director's other effort "Only God Forgives" but set in Viking times. A very brutal film, that I do recommend, but I would say with caution. Not as good as the more well known other film by Refn; Drive. No digital code or Slipcover is included with this release.

If you're a fan of Refn's Pusher trilogy then you are certainly a fan of Mads Mikkelsen. This norse warrior tale has the blood, guts (and mud) you'd expect from this duo but also surprisingly intense and atmospheric.

It’s not a bad film. The lack of talking for the main character took some getting used to but I enjoyed the story. It was a good escape.

This movie was not given its due credits. Amazingly gritty and powerful. I watched it when it came out and I am glad I could buy the BluRay.

This movie isn't for the ADD generation, nor the people who pass out at the first sight of blood. It's a slow burn with amazing cinematography and vistas. It's meditative, brutal and poignant. this one is an absolute gem fro the mind of Winding Refn. Can't wait to see Drive and anything else this guy works on.

Yes the movie is slow at times and yes the main actor does not say a word, but it is a great movie. Beautifully shot and well acted. The battle / fight scenes are very brutal and gory. I recommend watching it at least once. It might not be for everyone though because of how graphic the violence is and how its not filled with a lot of talking and becomes a bit slow, but it is an experience regardless of that.
