Chances are, you or your parents have some old home videos on VHS, VHS-C, Hi-8 or Mini-DV tapes that are locked in storage somewhere. These tapes are bulky making them complex to organize and store. If you are to digitize them, they will take as long as the videos. It's not like a Bluray or DVD where a copy can be made within 10 minutes. If you keep the tapes, two major things can happen. One-the film used to capture the recording will deteriorate and the tape can no longer be played. Two-you wait so long that devices needed to play them are no longer in existence or in production so you end up scrolling through Craigslist, eBay and or visiting a thrift store hoping to find a working player. Well, nowadays, almost every family owns a computer/laptop. With that being said, this capturing device and software is all you need to transfer your old videos onto your laptop. I don't use the DVD recorder because that itself will become a problem later in life when disc players become obsolete. I mean I don't even own a DvD/Bluray player. My laptops do not have disc drives. The only way I wold be able to watch is kick my kids of their PS4 to utilize it. However, I do use the format converter so videos can be converted into a Youtube friendly format to be uploaded. This way, your videos are forever safe and can be shared with your family and friends with a single click. The formats offered are mp2 and wmv. Which is sufficient because if you're transferring old videos from tapes, their maximum resolution will be 720x480. You do not need anything beyond that resolution. I have transferred a handful of very lengthy 4 hour long VHS and VHS-C tapes flawlessly. Do this now before VHS players become inaccessible.

I did a lot of online research to find a product that would easily transfer my old VHS tapes to a digital format. This product truly worked without any problems. I hooked it up to my VCR and Surface Pro as instructed and hit record. I transferred about 15 old tapes to files on my computer and loaded them to flash drives, which I gave to my adult children for Christmas. I did not use the DVD burning tool so I am not qualified to rate that aspect of the product, but I was absolutely thrilled that the product did work so easily. I anticipated running into problems that would make me regret spending the money for a more expensive item. I am glad to say that the money ($70) was well spent. The editing software is somewhat limited so I chose not to try it until I had more time to work with it. I will, however, use it in the future to edit the files I have transferred. This product saved me the expense of paying a company $300 to do what I was able to with a $70 investment. I have average computer skills and had NO problems successfully completing my project. Tech support was offered, but I didn't need it, so I don't know how helpful it would be. But, based on the quality of the product, I think it would be reliable as well. Just to say, our family laughed and cried as we watched childhood events play on the computer screen. Our memories are now preserved in a safer format.

I have been using this software for about a week now. There are two parts I will address: The short cut mode and the advanced mode. Short cut mode: Works fine. I have burned about 25 DVDs. All but one of them came out fine. Quality was decent, about the same as the VHS. Super simple to use. Literally, follow the on screen install instructions, open the program, insert a blank DVD and begin. One or two clicks and the process runs itself. Advanced: Do NOT waste your money on this product if you are purchasing it because of the advanced settings it advertises! I have made 4 attempts to put clips together using the advanced setting...all four have failed. Three of them gave me the message: "Burn failure. Error code SenseKey(5) ASC(21) ASCQ(2). I contacted the company for the software and basically got no help. In order to try and get it to work, he had me disable the menu function and chapter function. So, there really is NO point in merging different clips if the user has no way to select those clips when watching the DVD. Second problem is the length of time it takes to operate in the advanced mode. In the simple mode, the total time from start to finish is about 1.25 x the length of your VHS. (Ex: A movie that is 60 minutes will take approximately 75 minute to copy to the PC and then burn to the DVD.) In the advanced mode, it takes about 5 times as long as the length of the VHS. Each clip has to be downloaded, then merged with its own title. After every clip has been processed this way, you then have to merge all the clips together. Once this is done, you have to create menus and chapters for the menu to point to, and then burn. (This entire process took me 5 hours for a DVD with 64 minute run time.) However, after investing all this time for a single DVD, I received the burn failure notice. I spoke with tech support, but again, no assistance other than to disable the chapters and menu functions. In the tech's exact words: "Most standard DVD hardware and software on regular computers will not burn menus or chapters. You need a rather advanced computer for this." Then the third major problem: On 2 of the four advanced mode DVDs I attempted, the program automatically throws background music onto the DVD, even after I opted to remove all background music. In the words of the tech: "That is also something that does not function fully on most standard computers. You would need to go into the software and disable all background audio options. I can email you directions on how to do that. However, once you disable that function, you would have to remove and then reinstall the software to reactivate it." So, if you are buying this product because it offers many advanced functions, be aware that unless you have a very high tech, very expensive computer, you will not be able to use most of those functions. For basic video-to-video burning, it is fine...but you can buy something that does this just as well as the 9.0 Deluxe for half the price.

I bought this software/equipment in order to transfer old VHS videos to DVD. Hookup is extremely simple. Once you get used to the software it is also pretty easy to use. The only thing is, you kind of are on your own in terms of figuring it out. I could not find any how to instructions or videos to really teach you how to use the software. The company should have instruction videos on their site, or at least detailed written instructions. It took a few hours of playing around with the software (using the advanced setting) to feel like I really knew what I was doing.

I have a ton of old tapes I was looking into having moved to digital, but knew it would cost a fortune to have someone else do it, since many of my tapes were not in any organized fashion. This software worked great with my old VCR and the editing software is very easy to use. I've had it a couple months now and haven't even used all of it's capabilities. My finished products were easily published to YouTube to share with family and friends. Would definitely recommend this to anyone trying to save your memories to digital.

Worked for what I wanted to do. I have some old super 8 tapes that I wanted to make digital and this did it nicely. It was easy to use and provided a good quality end result. Keep in mind that the original super 8 is not at the quality of today but it was at least as good as the super 8 itself. Also there is an option to edit the digital video and add titles and credits, etc. I had fun with that and it added to a better end result. I would recommend this.

As I mentioned in a review of a similar Roxio product, I was interested in downloading a number of VHS video tapes to DVD. Many great movies and shows on the tapes I had, but no reason to keep the bulky tapes around if they could be copied to DVD, which would also allowed them to be played on my current family video system. I initially bought the Roxio product to do this, largely because I had used one of their products in the past to copy cassette tapes to CD, but it simply did not work. It would copy to the computer, but every attempt to burn to a DVD- or +R disc failed. Other reviewers mentioned similar problems. This was not a tape copyright or computer problem, but appeared to be a problem with the Roxio software. And, I could never get through to the Roxio help line for an assist. So, I bought the Vidbox product and it worked perfectly! A little graininess on the copies, but that improved with a change to some better cables I had around the house. Some of the signal noise was likely due to the age of both the VCR deck I was using as well as the age of the VHS tapes, that was to be expected. I will be using the Vidbox software to see if I can further clean up the signal as I download and burn additional tape in the near future. I highly recommend Vidbox VHS to DVD 9.0.

This is the first product like this I've used. I've been struggling with it. I did find after reading the online user manual twice that you should burn a DVD at slower speed. I thought that was the answer to my DVDs not playing on my DVD player. It worked once, then not the next time. Advanced mode is not really intuitive. USA customer support, which is nice, but they recommend you read the manual first. I called back after I read the manaul, then i got a little more help. The people at Best Buy couldn't help me much either, as this is an "outdated" thing to do. I am still hopeful I will be able to convert my over 30 VHS and 8mm tapes to DVD and save them on my PC before I give up! I would probably still recommend it to a friend if they were computer savvy since the only other choice is paying a much higher price to have tapes professionally transferred.

Took a long time but it was simple to do - Could not reproduce the digital copies tho once you made them. Had to make all copies you needed when running the VHS tape or you had to run it all over again for 2 hours. The family VHS tapes and memories were digitized as a reasonable price right in my living room. Would make the purchase all over again. I converted over 30 VHS tapes to DVD..

VHS to DVD 9.0 will digitize video from virtually any source that can output it's signal thru either composite (the yellow, red & white RCA plugs) or S-video cables. And you can save your digitized video into several common video and DVD formats, going straight to DVD or saving as MPEG or VCD files. I just finished doing over 20 VHS cassettes of old home movies, and will soon start converting about as many mini-cassettes from our old Sony video recorder. VHS to DVD 9.0 comes with software to edit video (add sound, titles, transitions, add or delete clips, etc) but it is relatively slow even on my new Windows 10 Dell desktop (thus the 4 star rating). My wife, kids and grandkids are enjoying watching the videos on the big TV without all the hassle of a VCR machine. I'm a very satisfied grandpa.

Had my doubts. I contacted support initially because it wasn't working. They responded promptly with some required setting changes on Windows 10. That was great but still did not work. I figured out on my own that the supplied cables did not fit snugly enough on the RCA jacks on the VCR. I had some extra cables at home and used them. After that I was successful in transferring a 2 hour video ( I stopped periodically and broke it up into 4 or 5 segments to be safe). It worked fine. Just remember that watching an old VHS recording (mine was 25 years old) on a modern HD TV will be something you have to get used to. Overall I am very pleased with the quality. Would have been 5 stars if the supplied cables had worked. I have a bunch more tapes to transfer...hope the VCR holds out ;o)

That one is able to transfer a vhs, Hi8, etc video (if you still have the video camera) at exactly the same quality as your original video is, to your computer and then process the MPEG file wit any video editing software and burn your video to a regular DVD or, better yet, to a BLU-RAY AT A 16:9 ratio and see your memories so clear!! Is short of amazing. Having your memories sent to companies (through SAMS OR COSTCO, OTHERS) that dump/copy the content of yourvhs or hi8 tape to a DVD’s ok but does not even begin to approach what you can do with this item!

I have a VHS of movies that were originally on Super 8 reels. Obviously, I was concerned about the quality of the movies on the VHS possibly looking any good on DVD. After some time figuring out how to first capture into my computer, then to burn the images onto a DVD, it worked even better than I expected. Now I have a more reliable way of sharing family films with other family members.

I tried using a $16 VHS converter. The resulting digital audio file cracked and popped. VHS to DVD 9.0 is easy to use and the quality is exactly as expected. I have converted several tapes to digital files and I'm very happy with how they turned out.
