Murders whose solution requires understanding the perpetrators’ psychology. The team of determined Detective Inspector Oskar Rheinhardt and student of Freud Dr. Max Liebermann returns. As does all supporting characters from Series 1. The story lines are fascinating, an apparent suicide, a corpse that leads to Serbian nationalist agitators, and a monk apparently murdered for anti-Semitic views. As with Series 1, stories, acting, and recreating Vienna at the turn into the Twentieth Century are all excellent. What makes this so different from other mysteries is the constant employment of what were at that time controversial Freudian psychology. The mysteries are excellent.
