Year 3 adds something new to the series, humor! All principal and many supporting cast members return. They portray their characters deftly and confidently. The three mysteries are excellent. The darkness common to psychological dramas continues. The detail necessary to create the look and feel of turn of the 20th century Vienna is very thorough. This year continues and developed the personal story lines of each principal character running in parallel with the mysteries. What is new is overt humor. Brilliant doctor Max Liebermann analyzing pastry and declaring the cook must love Detective Indpector Oskar Rheinhardt is hilarious. So is the worrying of Max’s parents as he uses them for decoys in another mystery. I think this year is the most enjoyable of the series so far.
