So, I get the iPhone 5s in the mail through Virgin Mobile (Sprint). I went to activate phone and Sprint tells me that the phone has been reported lost or stolen. So, the only option was to return the phone back to Best Buy. When I said something to the sells rep, about the situation he didn't really have anything to say about it. Will not be using this method of purchasing a phone again.

Don't Blame Best Buy

Don't blame Best Buy, the problems noted in the other reviews were caused by Virgin Mobile
I wrote a previous review(see Buyer Beware) in which I was critical of Best Buy because Virgin Mobile said they could not activate the phones. In fact is was 0 for 4. I tired one last time and found someone competent and had the phone activated in less then 5 minutes.
Here is what you can expect, the Virgin CS rep will tell you that they cannot activate the phone because it is an old sprint phone. Tell them that you got it from Best Buy and ask if they aware of the Best Buy program. They will then tell you that Best Buy failed to scan the right bar code on the box. Tell them that you watched them scan the code and insist that they override it and activate the phone. if the CS rep cannot and if you have not already been transferred, they will transfer you to a Tech Support member. This is not a guarantee of success but you will have a fighting chance. After you repeat the story again, they should be able to override the system and enter the MEID number. After this they can activate your phone. It works, I have activated two phones in the last two days.
The phone looks good and everything works so far. I can't comment on battery life yet because I have not used the phones enough, hence the four star rating.

The two phones (original and replacement) sent to me were not compatible with Virgin Mobile. After spending days talking to Virgin, Best Buy, Sprint, and Apple and two trips into Best Buy trying to figure out why the phone cannot be activated, I discovered that
They were Sprint pre-owned phones which had not been properly activated by Best Buy to be used on the Virgin Mobile network. The phones were still tied up with the previous owners. Although Apple did not have anything to do with this transaction, they were helpful (when I was at wits end with Best Buy) enough to steer me in the direction of contacting Sprint who confirmed that the the MEID#s on the phones were held with Sprint, not Virgin Mobile. According to Sprint, I needed the phone#, password, and account# of the previous owner in order to activate the phone and then get it working on Virgin Mobile. Of course, Best Buy could not give that information to me to give to Sprint. The only thing they would offer is to send me a replacement to my replacement. No, thank you. Returned both to the store today! Good riddance!
P.S. Virgin Mobile had no clue about the problem. Their misdirection to go back to Best Buy proved fruitless. Too tired to go into detail other than there was some insinuation that these phone could be stolen. This coming from Best Buy employees and Sprint.

Please Don't Buy This!

I don't usually take negative comments very seriously, but in this case, you might want to. For one, you can find an Iphone 5s on Virgin Mobile's website for less money, and it's new. I wanted to get two of these; one for each of my teenagers. The first phone, I took back because the fingerprint scanner didn't work. Sorry, cant remember why the second one went back, but was something that didn't function right. The third one finally worked right, but after the O.S. was updated, it wouldn't function right. All kinds of apps opened and closed at random, text would input by itself, etc. After I don't know how much reading online and how many calls, I talked to a tech at Apple, and he told me to connect it to my mac and update it again through Itunes. That helped, but it will still get funny if it is plugged in and you try to do something on it.
I bought another for the other teenager, and it seemed to work right with no problems. Bought it Dec. 15th, 2015. It is dead now. First the speaker went dead, and then later in the day, the phone wouldn't charge. It's a paperweight, because although they say there is a 1 year warranty on the phone, there is not! Not from Best Buy, not from Apple, and not from Virgin Mobile. I called and called all three of them, and they all blamed it on one of the other stores, and this was at least two calls to each company. The warranty expired from the original owner, and a new warranty was never applied.
I finally bought a new Iphone 5s online, with a $100 credit after two billing cycles, and it has been working just fine. If I were you, I would probably just buy a new one off Virgin Mobile's website and save money and enjoy your phone.

Beware the warranty

If you are buying this feeling some reassurance that it is a ‘certified’ pre-owned phone then beware. I bought one 30 days ago that has failed and have been in a vicious circle between best=buy, virgin mobile and apple trying to get a warranty replacement. The bottom line is that the virgin mobile warranty starts when the phone was originally sold by virgin as a ‘certified pre-owned’ phone, In my case that was in 2014. So although best buy sell these phone stating they come with a 1 year warranty they don’t tell you when the warranty began. In my case the warranty was expired before I even bought the phone. After several hours on the phone best-buy graciously agreed to replace the phone as it was bought very recently. Had it failed a few months from now I suspect I would have been out of luck. Otherwise a good phone once you manage to get it activated. Just don't rely on the advertised warranty.

Buyer Beware

I read all the other negative reviews but convinced myself that I would have a different experience. I have now tried four (4) reconditioned phones, at two different Best Buy stores, all which are supposed to work on Virgin Mobile. All (4) were actually Sprint phones and could not be activated on the Virgin Mobile System. The employee at one of the locations told me that he has never been able to activate any of the phones, because all are Sprint equipment. The store managers at both locations promised to let regional managers know about the problem yet the phones are still be offered on-line and at some retail locations. Save you time and avoid frustration and consider buying a different phone

DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE

I bought this phone for my daughter for Christmas 2015. I read the add carefully to ensure there was a warranty and felt confident it would be covered due to the statement on the advertisement "covered by 1 year warranty by Virgin CPO Warranty."
We had it about 4 months and started having battery issues. Basically, the phone started to power down at about 40%. Had to be plugged in to power back up. I took the phone into my local Best Buy after owning it 6 months because the problems were getting worse. Best Buy said they couldn't help me, it was Apple responsibility. I called Apple. They said because the phone was pre-owned, and the original activation date was April of 2014, it was no longer under their warranty and there would be a charge to fix/replace the battery. They did run diagnostics and it showed the battery was the problem.
Back to Best Buy, who again said they "couldn't help" despite the fact the warranty statement is on the Best Buy website. On to Virgin Mobile, who refused to help, sent me back to Apple. I finally called Best Buy corporate and they called Virgin with me on the phone. Same story, no warranty coverage. The Best Buy rep offered me $100 refund, which I took since that was all I was going to get.
Long story short, if you are buying this phone thinking there is any type of warranty you will be quite disappointed. When I bought it in November 2015 the warranty was already expired for 6 months!
I am still out $200 on this purchase, have a broken phone and a VERY bitter taste in my mouth in terms of Virgin Mobile, but especially Best Buy for not taking responsibility for the entire purchase. If they communicate a 1 year warranty on their website, they should honor it. At the very least they could have replaced the phone.

The phone is great! It looks brand new and works perfectly. Setup was easy and fast, no issues at all. The only thing i don't like so far is i can't seem to connect the phone to the comptuer via usb cord. I keep looking things up and trying but i have no luck. But other than that, it's a great phone!

Got the phone Saturday and it hasn't been able to charge using the lightning cord with either the outlet or connected to a computer. Nor has Virgin Mobile been able to transfer service. VM told me the code wasn't scanned properly by Best Buy, just as previous reviewers predicted. I told them I went back to Best Buy to have it properly scanned, and VM has escalated the work order. I'm told it will take 24 hours for the switch to occur, but now that the phone is not charging I hardly see the point of pursuing the transfer. Back to the Android for me...

I bought this thinking "maybe I won't have the same problem as everyone else on the reviews" boy, was I wrong. When I brought it home I went to charge it and it did not charge!!! I tried 2 different outlets and 4 different chargers, heck I even left plugged into the computer for 2 hours! So I brought it back the same day, and the reason I'm giving this two stars is because of the customer service. It is always terrific and I would buy from best buy again in a heart beat. Just not a refurbished phone.

Reading many of the reviews increased the "pucker factor". However, I'm glad I gave it a go. MY phone is sweet, in new condition and setup was flawless. My number was ported to the 5s in around 20 minutes from the time I opened the box, plugged it in and began.
