Purchased this morning for $49.99. I was excited to get home and dig into it as I’ve wanted a GoPro for a long time but couldn’t spend that kind of money. Hardware seemed pretty good. Camera appears well built along with the waterproof case it comes with. Software loaded in camera is a JOKE! The menu has words completely misspelled but I let that slide and wanted to test out the camera. Snapped a couple pictures and a short video. Those looked decent on the built in screen so I went to delete them and the screen locked up and looked like a bad signal on a TV channel. I tried rebooting it, guessing by holding the power button down which took the screen to black and then to the main boot up screen which locked up there with the logo partially off screen. (Photos attached)I never got it to boot up again and can’t turn it off. The screen is black, power light is on and it’s getting hot. This is a “Best Buy Exclusive” and appears to be the most basic Vivitar model with no mention of it on the manufacturer website. It appears to lack Time Lapse mode, or at least I can’t find it in the screwed up menus and there is no instruction manual in the box or online. I’ll return it after my daughter’s nap!

So I found this action camera on sale here at BB. Original price $45, and that day it was $25, had good reviews (not perfect). I clicked the button and got it. Presentation is great, charged the battery, inserted a micro SD card, and began testing it. So, I either got a lemon or the movies I took were choppy, photos out of focus, etc. Like other reviewer said before me, the camera menu even has spelling mistakes on it... then the camera froze with display on and there was no button I could click (or combination) to take the camera out of frozen mode. Took the battery out, re-charged it, went through the process again, and froze again. I talked to Customer Service and was asked to send them proof of purchase, send them the camera (paying for shipping myself) etc. So, long story short, this is not a Go Pro as it doesn't have a GP price, so don't expect it to be. Maybe you get a good camera! A week later, I returned to BB, before the return window expired.

I was looking for a replacement for my Flip video camera which had died. There are few pocket sized camcorders on the market now as phones are the preferred choice. But I like the Flip features of portability, easily watching on TV and transferring to DVD. I stumbled across the Vivitar on the best buy site and of course, liked the $50 price. In stock at the store, great, add a micro SD for $20, ok I can do that. Brought the camera home and spend a day and a half trying to charge the battery (long and SLOW). The battery was drained after linking to my phone and would not turn on! Miniature controls. The breaking point was that the HDMI cable I have did not fit the small camera. I checked online and it appeared that only the special one from the UK would fit and take awhile to arrive. Decided to cut my losses and return. Now Looking for another Flip video camera on the web. Best Buy was excellent about the return and I was asked if I wanted to exchange for a GoPro. Smart question !!

I know the camera is only $49. But I am used to quality images and videos from samsung smartphones or canon point and shoot cameras. I wanted to like the camera and the price was much cheaper the gopro. The packaging, form factor and construction quality look good. I took several pictures walking, stationary and I even hooked it into my car as an auto cam. The pictures looked okay for the megapixels. But on the first zoom in, the pictures are blurry. The fidelity is not to my liking. The videos were the same. I put it in the car and took pictures of things moving by and I could not read signs or license tags. The pictures and video do not look great on a 1080p TV compared to other media. If you just want stuff to share on social media, this is probably a good camera. If you want to do screen shows or do some video editing, not so good. Most likely I will take back to BB. Thinking if the 4k version is the same.

Worked well ... for about a week

My GoPro Hero3 died a week before my vacation, so I needed to get something quick but didn't have the funds for a new GoPro at that time. The price point on this was great, and reviews seemed to be pretty decent...... This thing is terrible, and you get what you pay for. It worked for about a week before completely dying. In that week, it did take some decent video, but the pictures were always a bit blurry and out of focus. On more than one occasion in the first week, the camera froze and wouldn't turn off. I had to wait until it either died, or until I was in a place that I could find something small enough to get to the reset button. The case is absolute junk and would open on its own while swimming with it in hand. Now it doesn't turn on at all. Just save up your money and get a GoPro. Stay away from this junk. Returned.

If you want a GoPro but don't want to pay the price, go borrow from your 401K and spend the money anyway. If you want a decent little camera that will give you adequate but not "best ever" pictures and videos for a much better price, then buy this little guy. I bought it to take on vacation so we could take pics and video of the family splashing around at the pool and the ocean without dragging my DSLR or (ridiculously over-priced Galaxy Note) to the water. This thing is waterproof, sturdy, and takes pretty good images. The videos are better in my opinion, but that may be because I have a really good still camera. All in all, it's worth the money.

I forgot to pack my Sony action camera for our Hawaiian vacation, so looked for a cheap option. This fit the bill at under $50. I tried it first in it's waterproof housing in the lagoon, but immediately noticed fogging on the case - water was getting inside the housing. The camera then failed to turn on. I returned it to Best Buy and they gave me a replacement, which I decided NOT to use underwater and only for it's intended purpose - zip lining. Here it worked beautifully. Easy to turn on and off with the wrist control and videos good enough for watching on the computer (haven't tried it yet on high def TV). So, overall happy with the light investment. For the cost, it was great.

I received this as part of my company's recognition program. power button broke within minutes of receipt. used Wristband broke within minutes of use, cannot power on the unit, plugging in will turn it on for about 5 seconds. then nothing. Don't waste your money on this one. BB, you should probably take this product off the website, due to a bad quality product. Note: I have had Vivitar products before. this camera should be recalled by the manufacturer based on internet research, cameras break within hours of use.

We've used this camera several times now. Always turned on & worked as expected. At first I had a problem with the camera recognizing the microSD card. Turned out I needed to format the card first. The card must be formatted in the camera (didn't know that). Once I figured out the formatting issue it worked perfectly. The case seems rugged. It's definitely waterproof (at least it's swimming pool proof). The attached preview / view screen is clear and easy to see. Menus are easy to navigate and understand.

I followed the instructions, charged the device until the blu charge indicator light turned off and was never able to power it up. Tried fully charging several different times, after waiting a day or 2. Still, nothing. Vivitar’s customer service offered to replace, but for a shipping fee. Decided to just return it to the store. Had been looking forward to using this.

It's a good camera, for the price it did everything it was intended on doing so I bought me 2 and it was still cheaper than buying one go pro. I used it while swimming in the ocean and on hikes and it works like it suppose to. Price is good so dont expect something with 100 zoom and other specs, just a regular camera to take pictures and video in HD. Nothing wrong with it.

I really wanted to like this and the price was excellent, but when watching my video's on the device it only played part of it. If I tried to delete the video it just froze up and the only way to fix it was to reset the unit. It happened every time. When I downloaded the video to my computer it played the whole file. I wanted to like it but I returned it.

I picked this up because of the price, even after reading outdated and bad reviews and glad I did. Easy to use and so many free attachments that its well worth it especially for me who is new to Action Cams. Changed it, stuck in a 128GB Samsung SD card, when into the menu and found format card and it worked perfectly!

These little cameras are great for the price (deal of the day). They work well, have a decent picture and are waterproof, so kids can use them in the pool. They are also great to give as gifts because they are relatively inexpensive and the recipient can use them as they would the more expensive types of these cameras.

Bought this little camera for my boy scout son to take on a canoe trip but first tested it on a family tubing trip down the river. Camera worked great in the rain and water and got some nice photos. two down sides the battery at full charge died before the trip was over (3 hours floating) and the remote watch that comes with it is not waterproof at all.

For 49.00 not bad couldn't use it for what I wanted to do with it, use as a scope cam. The focus was too far back to get up close to the eyepiece of the scope. It records OK not real high quality but adequate for general use. Does't do to bad for inside movies. The accessories that come with it are nice. Over all for a quick and dirty knock off of a Go Pro it will do.

Returned first one after a week's use. Cam failed to boot up right after charging. Replacement unit does boot up, this time around, it just shows the 'Vivitar' but does not load all the way. Icon labels are spelled incorrectly. Planning to return again this week but won't ask for a replacement any more.

What I loved was the waterproof case which works really well. Easy to use for beginners trying to get into action cameras. What I disliked was that it sometimes malfunction or freezes. There were spelling errors in the menu! The actual camera felt light and cheaply made and so was the watch.

If I could give it no stars I would!! Got it for my daughter for Christmas and the power button stuck. She literally played with it for one day. It would not stay charged for long and took all night to charge it. The videos were good quality but it literally worked for less than 24 hours.
