    Noticeable persistent audio lag

At first, I was impressed at this sound bar's ability to fill my bedroom with sound. It genuinely sounds like a much more elaborate speaker setup is present. However, upon further inspection I noted that, no matter what setup you use, there is a 1/4 to 1/2 second audio delay. This is common with TVs using HDMI ARC since many of them handle digital audio pass-through poorly, however, my TV does not. With my old sound bar, HDMI ARC from my TV added an almost imperceptible amount of lag. The same TV with the same settings connected to this bar created a full 1/2 second of lag. There was no way to fix it. Further experimenting, I tried hooking my Xbox One X to it using both HDMI Pass-Through on the bar itself, as well as connecting an optical cable from the console directly to the bar. Both of these setups SHOULD result in no audio lag, however, the 1/4-1/2 second audio delay was still present. I checked every possible setting and there's just no way to fix it. Admittedly, some people don't notice audio lag under 1 second, or it doesn't bother them. However, I have trouble ignoring it, and my main use for the bar is gaming, where it stands out more. Another issue is, when switching audio sources, the bar takes too long to recognize the new signal and sometimes wouldn't accept it at all without turning it off and back on. I decided that despite having otherwise great sound, these two issues are definitely deal breakers, and I'll be returning the unit.

The Vizio M-Series 2.1 Channel All-in-One Sound Bar System meets all my needs and is easy to use. For the most part the remote is user friendly and it’s nice being able to change the system from music to dialogue (and other options) instead of always changing the bass, treble, etc. I also like the fact the subwoofer is built in, makes the minimal list look even more pleasing. I really like this item and highly recommend it.

A really excellent addition to TV world ! Tied to a new 32" Samsung provides a much improved viewing, and listening experience. What sets this bar apart is what is provided. All connections for 3 options, depending on make/model TV. Installation easy and convenient. An indicator of quality to me was when the batteries for the remote were opened there were Duracell Copper Tops, not some brand you have never heard of !

Huge improvement over my projectors stock speaker!

I have an Epson PowerLite® Home Cinema 3700 projector and the sound was quite tinny and hard to hear dialogue during action scenes. This sound bar is a huge improvement over the projector's speaker! I wanted something without a separate subwoofer due to limited space, and liked that this unit came with an easy to setup wall mounting system. I also required a 3.5mm stereo mini cable connection, which this soundbar has. As an all-in-one soundbar it certainly doesn't rumble or sing like other soundbars with dedicated subwoofers, but it absolutely is a huge improvement over the projector's single stock speaker. I can now clearly hear voices and get a decent sense of weight from the low tones and explosions during action sequences. It turns on automatically when I use my projector, and I use my Roku remote to control the volume. I did have to take a couple minutes during the initial setup to get the audio right; essentially set the soundbar and projector volume to their mid volume setting then use your projector or Roku remote to control the volume up or down from there. I haven't touched the soundbar remote since the initial setup. I am very happy with this purchase and would recommend it for others looking for a compact all-in-one soundbar solution.

Didn't want to have yet one more box as in a sub-woofer so when this became available I jumped. Happy with the sound, I think it's the best (bass) you can get without having an additional sub-woofer.When I need a full sound experience, I use my stereo system. The rest of the time this sound bar does the trick. A bit pricey but you get what you pay for.

Wow, impressive sound for an all in one!!! Blows my Yamaha 1080 all in one out of the water. In my head can’t believe this is a Vizio Smoking a more expensive Yamaha….but its so much better the Yamaha is kickin to the curb Soundstage is phenomenal with the virtual x on….hard to believe all the sound coming from a single bar. …..way better than most other bar/sub combo kits. LOUD too! Separate tweeters / angled mounting is what make this unit sound so good. Bass also very impressive for onboard subs….no not ground pounding bass but definitely enough for good movie/music bass effect and really makes the music come alive. The deep sound is definitely there….just not the shake. I Also really appreciate you can adjust bass/treble directly on the bar….given most TVs do not allow all the sound enhancements when using ARC….not the case with this bad boy as we get bass/treble and sound presets! Does it beat my larger Denton receiver/Polk atmos setup? No. But at under $150 it’s incredible upgrade and perfect for most bedroom/office/ 2nd tv applications…..or apartment/night use where good bass sound is important but “thump” is a problem. ….love it and am buying another for the bedroom!!!

I've only had a few days with the M21, and I think it's safe to say that I have enjoyed my time with it. Full disclosure: I purchased an open-box unit for $104.99. It's a very simple sound bar. I use the HDMI Arc connection and it just works. I have it paired up with a TCL R635 55 inch TV. My main goal was to add just a little bit of punch to the sound of my TV. The R635's speakers are great for TV speakers, but, like most TV speakers, they have their limitations. They don't really have any soundstage or bass and so, I went looking for a sound bar to upgrade my sound. And these basically do that. They just enough low-end to make cinematic scenes more engaging, but not so much that I have to worry about my neighbors. Dialogue comes through fairly well, and isn't muddied by any overly bloated mid bass. And whatever magic they have working with the DTS: X Virtualization works surprisingly well; The speakers sound bigger than they are, and ability for some content to produce sound "behind" me was a nice little treat. I will say that 2.1 is a generous classification for this sound bar. The ".1" suggesting that this sound bar has a separate subwoofer is just misleading. It's two 3 inch subs. So that should tell you about the quality and amount of BASS that you're going get. These are not the holy grail of speakers. These aren't a product that I would suggest you go out and buy today. But, if you are looking for that extra something in your sound and have limited space/budget, I think that the M21 is a good place to start.

This bar offers great sound. I was worried about the bass with no external sub woofer. Not the case here, Great bass. As a plus, my TV has an audio HDMI port that it coonects to and is now part of the TV. Comes on when i turn the TV on and is operated bybthe TV remote Volume. Hated having seperate remotes for everything.

Definitely a great purchase. Didn't arrive on time but everything is kind of out of whack mail-wise. We're using it for a small bedroom and it's honestly too good of a soundbar for our little room, but if your TV is across the room and even better if you're able to mount it to the wall, this would be for you.

This is an excellent sound bar for a small price. It’s only just over 2” in height, and the speakers are all directed upward. And it has very good bass response without a sub-woofer. Plus has nice remote and Bluetooth. Overall I’d definitely purchase again. Was a bit cautious about buying something by Vizio because of the history of some of their televisions, but actually very pleased.

Bad Latency Issues, Poor Audio Quality

I bought the Vizio M21d-H8R, Sony HTX8500, and the Sonos Arc to compare three standalone Dolby Atmos sound bars at different price points. I’m keeping one for use with my Hisense H9G and 2021 Apple TV 4K. My TV placement is not ideal for acoustics: the TV is in the corner, seating is not square with the TV and sits at a slight angle to it. There’s no square, flat surface behind or on either side of the TV, and the room is “lopsided” in relation to it. I wanted a sound bar that was: - Stand-alone. I don’t have room for a sub or satellite speakers. - Able to produce clear dialog. Dialog was often difficult to discern on my TV speakers, even on content like Ted Lasso that doesn’t have much happening aside from dialog. - Generally pretty good sounding. This might seem obvious, but I wanted sound that would match the quality of the H9G’s picture. The H9G is not the world’s most amazing television, but it’s no slouch. I was spending money on sound anyway, and I didn’t want to get something that felt sub-par. That said, while I have a decent ear, audio equipment seems to have a point of diminishing return where paying more doesn’t sound that much better. The Sonos Arc gets great reviews, but I wanted to see if I could tell with my own ears, in my apartment, with my equipment. The verdicts: Vizio M21d-H8R. Disappointing. Dialog was not clear, even after trying different EQ settings on the sound bar. There’s noticeable low end from the sub (compared to the H9G speakers) but it sounds cheap. The low end stuck out and had a boomy quality. In addition, there was bad latency from HDMI ARC. Latency was fine when the Apple TV was plugged straight into the sound bar, but any signal passed through the TV’s HDMI ARC was not syncable. I don’t recommend the M21d-H8R at all. Sony HTX8500. I noticed nothing wrong with this device, but nothing exciting either. Dialog was clear, low end was present and fit with other frequencies, and it decoded Dolby Atmos just fine. Surround effects were slight—I could hear some movement in the stereo field, but no height from Dolby Atmos, and everything felt like it was coming from straight ahead. This is expected for the technology in this sound bar, but less than what Sony advertises. Latency was good, through both HDMI ARC and the sound bar’s HDMI in. If my budget had kept me at this price point, I would have been satisfied with the HTX8500. Sonos Arc. At $500 more than the HTX8500, I really hoped this didn’t sound as good as it does. Unfortunately for my wallet, there’s a clear difference between the Arc and the HTX8500. Wherever that price/performance point of diminishing returns is, it’s above this. The Arc has a noticeably fuller sound. While it doesn’t have satellites, it still manages to create sound that feels immersive. The up-firing speakers do a decent job with the Dolby Atmos height dimension. Flares in the burning village scene of 1917 sounded like they were floating above. The effect wasn’t mind-blowing, but added a little more richness and dimension to the sound. There’s much more clarity in the low end compared to the HTX8500. Certain sounds, like flames or spaceship engine noise, were absent with the HTX8500 but subtly noticeably on the Arc. Dialog is pretty clear, and the dialog enhancement setting works well for the most part. Latency on the Arc is good, even though everything is run through the H9G and out to the sound bar using HDMI ARC. I hate extra remotes, so I appreciated the fact that the Arc is controlled via an app for the few times you need to tweak settings. Apple Airplay works great—the sound bar was easy to add to another pair or airplay speakers in my living room, with no wireless sync issues. I’m keeping the Arc and returning the others. The exciting sound is worth the extra money to me. For those looking to save money, the HTX8500 was satisfactory. Steer clear of the Vizio M21d-H8R.
