We have owned at least 3 other humidifiers over the past 10 years and have never had a humidifier that has worked this well. It senses the humidity in the air and does not go on unless it is needed. Very convenient with 2 canisters and extremely easy to fill and place back into the unit. Since it has 2 canisters it does not have to be filled every night, it uses only one canister at a time. The noise of the unit is much like a white noise, it actually is very calming. Extremely happy with this purchase, hopefully it will last at least 5 yrs.

We've been using this Vornado EVDC500 for a few weeks. Our family room was consistently at 19 to 20 percent relative humidity. We set the Vornado at 45 percent RH and the room shows about 39 percent RH at one corner of the room. Our family room is open to the rest of the first floor in our home. I've set up digital RH meters throughout the first floor. After about 3 days of humidification, the average RH in any room is about 38 percent. The recommended range is 30 to 50 percent. We prefer the comfort of where we're set now. Also, we don't have a lot of condensation on the inside bottom of our windows in the family room. Our New England Winters are usually very dry. This added moisture in our home has made a big difference in our respiratory dryness. We seem to have just about eliminated the nasal irritations. This humidifier is very easy to set up and maintain. The removable side tanks lift up easily, refill and re-insert into the base. The whole unit is easily taken apart for cleaning and goes right back together just as easily. When first set up, you need to insure the wicks are properly inserted into their slots, and pushed down so they are fully seated into the base where they can absorb and wick up the water fully, across the whole area of the wick bottom. The fan is adjustable, manually, and this model has a "Smart" setting where it will control the fan speed according to the humidity setting and room RH. We've set ours on High. It is not loud, the muffin type fan has a low pitch, not annoying. The unit cycles about every 5 to 10 minutes or so. It will cycle more often, like this, since we're actually using it to humidify the whole first floor of our home. About 1000 square feet or so. The 38 percent RH is very consistent throughout the first floor. The unit is well designed, and the tanks are quite solidly made to handle the approximate 1 gallon each. I fill one tank per day, or so. The fan is a rugged muffin type unit, that should hold up over time. There's not much that could breakdown with this humidifier, as far as the mechanics are concerned. The control panel is a touch type, not buttons to press or fail. The unit is well constructed at its' base to last for years. As long as it is well maintained, and cleaned/dried out properly for storage, the materials will prevent formation of mold/mildew when not in use. We've very satisfied with this humidifier, and we have purchase two sets of the wicks for future use, made by Vornado. I believe the manufacturer of the humidifier makes the wicks to specifications that will insure proper performance and optimum humidification with their units. Also, the Vornado wicks are treated/manufactured with anti-bacterial process. I don't trust "aftermarket" wicks from other sources since the wicks interact with the moisture and air now in your home. So far so good...The price was right from Best Buy. We also bought the two sets of wicks from Best Buy too, since they are made by Vornado.
