I have no idea what some of the reviewers are talking about ...
the unti has back-lighting ..... set up is plug the power into the wall and plug the telephone cord into the phone ... how much easier do you want ... sound quality is great ( both ways )
this is a 6.0 digitial cordless phone for under 40 bucks .....with answering machine .. you cant go wrong ....
the one reviewer said that the battery only lasted 1 hour .. thats why you read the instructions and charge the phone for a full 16 hours before initial use .... ( clearly says it on the instructions and on the battery )

We bought this phone about 9 months ago. We used to live in a pretty cheap apartment, and for some reason we couldn't make calls but could receive them. We thought it was the phone but by the time we'd set it up we couldn't return it. However, we just moved two months ago and now the phone works perfectly! The only problem is if the phone is on speakerphone, the battery doesn't last more than an hour. But if you're not using speaker, it lasts quite a bit longer. Overall, I really like this phone--the design is great! I hate thick phones, but this one is only slightly thicker than a cell phone.

I just purchased this phone from Best Buy today and I will be taking it back...
The reception is very poor when I moved away from the base.
Also the buttons on the answering machine are not user friendly. The base of the unit sits straight up making it dificult to press the buttons without holding the telephone base. This is very annoying

Wish I'd gone a bit more expensive. The phones okay, but the ringers are weird, the speakerphone button is hit or miss for working, and it's definetly a lot like talking in a bucket, even though the range is great, went the better part of a block with it before it cut out (lost delivery man.)

I purchased this phone/answering machine and had trouble with the phone not connecting. I had to redial 3 times until I got through. I returned the product thinking this was a defected phone, exchanged it for a new one, and the same thing happened. I have purchased other vtech phones in the past with no problem, but it seems this model is a problem.
