Use it as a back up on my computer so that I can retrieve data if I want to load it on another computer. Has its own software that has to be loaded to access the hard drive info.

First off. The drives inside are WD Reds. If you don't know the significance of that, then stop reading, these drives aren't for you. If you do know what that means, you know that you're getting a $300 + drive for <200$. These drives work great in NASes ( what they're build for), and last years. I had 12x4TB reds in my NAS before (RAIDZ2), now I've got 12x8TB in RAIDZ2, with another 12 planned over the next 2-3 years. (In case you're wondering, I'm using 6 drives per vdev). Don't let the 5400rpm get you down, with 6 of these in a raidz2 vdev, I can easily push 600 MB + of traffic to these. when migrating my current NAS to the new NAS, I did a transfer using NFS over 10Gb, and was able to easily push half of that. NFS probably could've been tuned, and I was NOT using jumbo frames.
Either way, you get a fantastic value for whatever price you pay for these, they'll last years.

Wonderful so far. Large amount of storage, great price, WD quality. Only thing that surprise me was it needed the included software installed for the driver.

The 8 terabyte provides tons of storage and the Western Digital hard drive is very reliable.
It doesn't have a fan so it would be wise to get a sub fan to connect to it to make sure it remains cool if you plan on using it for very long spans at a time.

It's a great value for the price and WD drives have always proven to be quite reliable. I still have 20+ year old WD drives that are still functional.

Bought that during the BestBuy anniversary week during August for $159.99. Can't beat that for 8TB WD red drive... You can take it out of the enclosure and and connect it inside your desktop computer if you don't like the USB external connection speeds...

These were purchased to back up additional drives I already owned. I was just waiting for a large capacity drive with a good price that had decent reviews. This meet all expectations so far and have had a blast looking through all my digital clutter.

Does the job that I wanted. Good price. Quite operating device. Was easy to install as all you have to do is connect one cable to your computer and the electrical plug to an outlet.

I'm a WD drive user since 1984. WD external drives work right out of the box without any issues whatsoever. Just plug it into your computer or device and in a few seconds you're ready to store or retrieve. I own a multitude of WD product - so much so that they should send me a t-shirt. FWIW, I also own a ton of Seagate. WD fail considerably less than Seagate - although Seagate reliability is catching up. I have several 10 year old WD's still working when needed. I have a few other drives that should work...get the picture? Uncontested reliability = WD. Value at the moment = other brands. (For those wondering, they are also shuckable :-)

Editing videos can take up a lot of memory. This 8TB drive will store a lot. Works well. I like that it stands - my other external drives just laid on the desk and seemed to be in the way

I got this to accumulate all of my digital movies and music, instead of having it on several smaller HD's. Runs great and despite a little lag here and there that could be my PC trying to read it, or the HD itself, I have no complaints about this.

I was running out of space on my two 1TB drives so this drive is used for photos, videos and documents. My other drives will now just be for backups. This is a huge drive and serves my needs. It was easy to set up and it has been working perfectly.

This one is a real bargain
Western Digital red and 8 Tbs.
I only wished I bought it at the $99.00 price.I thought something had to be wrong with them. But at $149.00 price its still a huge bargain. You can get a lot of music or movies on it.

Works great. I have a few some I chucked and some I'm using as externals. If u want to take the hard drive out (chuck) and install it directly in your pc these will not work so easily. The HD has some type of board circuit board that will not allow the HD to spin if it detects power on it. I Googled and found placing a peace of electrical tape over the 2 or 3rd contact terminal will circumvent that protection but it's not for the newbie. Also if you chuck it voids the warranty. Other than this they do what they are intended to do. 8 tbs of storage is a lot of storage unless your mining. Also 2 of them I opened did not have red.
