The storage capacity is impressive, making it a breeze to back up all my important files. The transfer speed is fast, and it's compact enough to carry around. Overall, a solid investment for anyone needing extra storage.

Setup of the hardware was very easy. The new software called Acronis used to create backups is a bit hard to get exactly the way you want it. For example I need to backup 2 terabytes and because of the way it does full and incremental backups I filled all 8 terabytes of the drive up because it was creating multiple full backups without deleting the old ones first.

I had purchased 2 of the 4TB easy stores in the past for video storage. They worked out just fine. No issues at all. So when it was time to purchase another, it was an easy choice. I couldn't find a new 4TB drive. While searching I found the 8TB at a price drop. Couldn't be happier.

Let's start with a few examples. 20 years ago you might have downloaded The Matrix onto your PC. A 2 hour movie, standard picture quality - might have taken between 600 megabytes and 700 megs. Then tvs boasting "hi-definition" 720 pixels per sq inch came on the market. People wanted the better picture and gradually 720p TV became the norm. But if you downloaded The Matrix in 720p the file size would be larger - maybe 1.5 gigabytes for the same film but higher quality. Then TVs boasting even better picture quality emerged - the 1080p sets. If you wanted to download The Matrix in the 1080p format you might be talking a file size of 2 gigabytes or more. Now 4K tvs are being sold. That is a single picture frame is now composed of 4,000 pixels. Same film, but the higher density of the pixels makes for transformational film viewing. Pretty soon, the hard drive that came with your PC is going to be filled up. What will you do? Some people will simply delete stuff to make room for new stuff. Others (call them digital pack-rats) will buy an external hard drive. Depending on the size (density) of the external hard drive you might be able to store the entire run of Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, all the Marvel and DC Superhero films and much more, all in 4K quality. The only drawback to this digital film library is that external hard drives can become "bricked" and no longer can be read by your PC. Yanking out the USB cord without following the proper procedure can cause the X-Drive to become bricked. I have several 500mg external hard drives that I use for paperweights- and that is why a "large" external hard drive is so important. I regularly download a film or tv show and try to watch it right away. If it seems like something I'd like to watch again I transfer the file to the larger external hard drive. I'm being operated on next week for prostate cancer. Even if all goes well I will be housebound for a few weeks. I am anticipating enjoying a movie marathon!

Use it as a back up on my computer so that I can retrieve data if I want to load it on another computer. Has its own software that has to be loaded to access the hard drive info.

This is a lot of space for the price, the drive is relatively quiet most of the time, the drive comes partitioned with software ready for installation already on the hard drive. This is a very good performing drive for this price point, whether you keep it in its case for backups or take it out for an internal drive.

Just started using this drive, but so far I'm pleased with the purchase. The price was great, and setup and operation were a breeze. As with any hard drive, time will be the real measure of its performance.

Got this to use as a backup drive. I am a photographer and have a ton of photos to keep safe. This does the job. Easy to use. Install software, setup backup and you're done. The software has really been updated.
