Just using for my plex storage. Works great. Plug and go. Easy to setup. Transfer speeds are alright. Will be upgrading to a synology device soon. This was just a great price on sale so impulse bought.

The basic setup was simple and ability to access from internet is a good. However the application to setup/manage is unnecessarily complex. Also there is a need to install multiple applications to do different things. Exploring the features still, will update review after I learn more.

Using for home network. Purchased because WD is a solid name and I needed shareable storage for multiple devices and didn't trust my everything to be in some company's cloud storage with monthly fees.

The WD My Cloud was very easy to install and set up. It has been reliable ever since WD had a problem with their servers and I could not connect from the internet for a few days. It is quiet. It is not superfast for transfer of large data amounts, but that may be due to my AT&T wifi router.

This does what it is supposed to, can get access to the shared drive easily with any computer connected to the same network as it is. And I can technically access it via other computers on outside networks. However the computer I originally set it up with cannot get access to it when hooked up to an outside network for some reason.

If you just want a backup drive it's great. Fast and easy to setup. If you want to set up Plex etc... And use as backup, it's better. Easily streams two roku boxes at 1080. Highly recommend.

Sets up quickly and works across all my home devices

I bought this as a home cloud storage. After setup, I have had no problems saving/ retrieving data from multiple devices. Have not used it from outside of home network, but pleased overall.

Can't beat the price for 4tb. I have been using it to stream movies through dlna, and it works well. Passwords can be reset easily so to store movies, music, and photos it works great. If you want to store anything that has more private data like tax returns, etc , you make want to get something with an encryption option.

I noticed this drive runs a lot slower than the previous model (WD Live) which I found to be a great product. The web interface on the Cloud takes a while to load and display the information or sometimes it does not load at all. The media server scan function ran for weeks scanning 18,000 music tracks, 48,000 pictures, and 1672 videos. (I'm a musician and photographer). Accessing the drive as a shared drive over the network was a lot slower while scanning but now that scanning has completed it's only a tad slower, not much difference there. The media content streams well and there are no problems so far in that area. Overall I like the performance of the WD Live model (no longer in production) better.

This unit is well built and for the most part easy to install and set up if you have any type of IT experience. Most options are straight forward with their setup and the WD 800 tech support line is available for any additional questions of the setup of services.

It took about 15 minutes to set up. I had to download a few apps and I was backing up automatically. It is very easy to access from anywhere. And best of all there are NO monthly fees to pay for cloud storage space! Thanks for the great product and helping me decide on this great personal cloud.

Easy set-up. Works great! I use wirelessly. After initial back-up, it downloads fast on N network. Uploading video from network drive back to your computer or smart phone is slow.

So obviously it's stated that it's in fact a cloud. But the UI at times can be a little clunky, and communication between the desktop app and the webpage isn't all that consistent at times. Example being if I change my password on one the other may not know immediately. I'm a bit disappointed that you don't have a really easy way to access the cloud settings from the desktop app as well. If I want to do administrative things such as monitoring or blocking certain folders, I can't do it from the mobile app or the desktop app. One account should be able to have the same utility across all platforms. Storage space is what it should be and I enjoy the automatic backup. If it was more accessible to the settings this device would be great. However, their may be better options out there. In fact, if you'd prefer to attach a usb to an external device for a better platform and faster transfer rates then pass this up. I have not tried media streaming to a tv or other device yet so I cannot speak for the optimization of streaming.

Best for home network storage. Quiet and fast. What else do you want? Copying and retrieving files, streaming movies, playing music to your mobile devices - all awesome.

This cloud drive was very easy to set up and use. I first purchased the Seagate and found it very frustrating to set up and use. So happy I exchanged it for this one.
