cheap case
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.sent my 12TB back because the rubber legs came off in the first hour. When I spend over $500 I expect a solid product all around.

works as expected

Easy to set up just be patient

Not very reliable NAS
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought one of these as my first NAS, wanting something relatively simple and easy to setup since I’m quite the novice with these sort of devices. Everything set up initially just fine and was pretty smooth, but it was after a week of usage that gave me a headache. After a couple of weeks of usage, often I wouldn’t be able to login to the dashboard to check storage space, or to make changes to the drive (like add a user or install an app such as Plex). So I had to do a reset to reset my users and passwords. After getting that all setup again, a week or so goes by and then same thing happens again! So after going through endless forums trying to figure out what my problem is, it turns out this is actually not uncommon a defect with the software in the EX2 devices. Additionally I had times where changes in the dashboard wouldn’t update. On more than one occasion the device would tell me my password was incorrect, after having JUST changed the password (even after a password reset). And there were even times when the device would not let me copy files over to it. All of these issues other consumers also complained about in these forums. I had mine for about a year and had these problems over and over again and finally I just couldn’t take the unreliability anymore. I pulled the two hard drives and gave the device to charity. Not trying to plug a different product intentionally here, but I replaced this EX2 with a Synology 2-bay NAS and can not even tell you how wonderful it is. The thing just works. Not a single problem. And I honestly don’t know anything about network storage other than my experience with the EX2. I will never own another NAS device made by WD. Their hard drives are excellent, but that’s where the buck stops.
