THE BEST PURCHASE I’VE MADE IN MONTHS!! This drive is an awesome huge beast for storage and the network capabilities to store, move and share files for the cloud are hands down the best for a busy person on the go. The only drawback is configuration from the MyCloud site and the devices to setup username password. If you have an iPhone it is better to set it there first and use the app too. My MacBook will pick up the MyCloud OS when I am home where the physical machine is. But when I’m not, I can send files from my laptop to my phone through airdrop then place the file in the MyCloud OS server which has a place on my phone. EXCELLENT!!! No more paying extra for iCloud space with Apple.

I'm admittedly not a fan of cloud-based storage. My primary concern is cost of storing on the cloud; I have several Gigs of storage. This device solves two of my problems: (1) storage is large enough for my needs, and (2) I don't have to pay extra fees to larger cloud-based storage. It's all right there in the house. Two downsides: (1) The set-up can be a little complicated if you're not familiar with such things. Fortunately, online customer support was great. (2) Although I can easily access the unit through networking when at home, access away from home is a little more complicated. It is possible to access away from home, but you can only copy/paste single files; if you're looking to download a folder, it's not going to happen. It's definitely pricey, so weigh the difference between a one-time purchase, and monthly higher storage rates on other cloud services. I felt the purchase was worth it in the long run.

Good upgrade from single HDD WD MyCloud 2TB

I had a lot of questions and concerns about this upgrade before I made the jump. I could not find the answers until I bought and set it up. Here are the things I learned the hard way. I hope these will help others who are in the same situation. - It does not use WD Discovery. It does not need to. The drive automatically shows up in the shared drives if your PC is on the same network. - I can use the USB port to attach a USB3 HDD as an additional HDD. Mine was used with the old MyCloud single-bay drive and it worked as soon as it was plugged in, and the files in there are available without a need to format the HDD. - You have to leave "Admin" as the user in the initial setup. If you change it to your ownlogin ID, you can not log back in again without resetting the whole device. This is not described anywhere in the installation instructions. - I needed to google a lot to find the correct setup instructions. They should be spelled out for each use scenario. (Only 4 stars.) - It works well after the setup. I have this for a month now and running smoothly. The speed is faster.

Just bought a My Cloud Expert EX2 8TB from Best Buy, It comes setup as a RAID 1. With 2, 4TB drives. This gives 4TB because the same data is recorded on both drives. I am retiring my My Cloud 2TB single disk NAS drive. I purchased it from Best Buy in Feb. 2016. Still works fine. Western Digital has been very good in helping me transfer the data from my old 2TB NAS drive to the new 4TB mirrored drive. Five stars for their support.

I was bit hesitant to go for personal cloud solution from user interface and speed stand point. But this really surprised me. User interface can be improved with windows based desk stop application but as long as you are map it as a network drive, you would not care for that. If you read negative feedback about the speed, they probably had unrealistic expectation. The speed is decent and I am Able to move around files not just across folders on the NAS itself but also across my different cloud spaces with reasonable speed. To my surprise, I am to retrieve and play movies in split second w/o any lag. Can’t ask for anything else

I have 1 of these at home and 2 at the office. 1 of the ones at the office is 5 years old and we recently had to replace one of the WD Red hard drives. They are all set up on RAID, so nothing lost, and that is the point of this device. The apps that can be installed with it are hit or miss. Most don't work well. Take time to learn how the Shares, Users, and Access permissions work and are set up. Otherwise you will just be frustrated trying to wing it. These backups have saved us on multiple occasions and that is what these are supposed to do. Well done.

Easy to setup and easy to use! Exactly what i was looking for. That being said the description in the product was a little misleading as I thought it would have double the memory it did. Indexing took a bit of time the first time around and the fans were running overtime. Once initial indexing completed (a few days later) everything has been perfect !

I have got to give this 5 stars simply because it has exceeded my expectations. Seeking something to replace my solid, trusted but aging Win2003 server, but avoiding Microsoft, weeks of research led me to this or a parallel Buffalo unit. This unit won when Best Buy met the price point. The WD My Cloud is a Linux box running Apache as a web based interface. Setup was easy and it was online with my usual network shares literally in minutes. Files moved over within a few hours and old server shut down totally in less than a day. A process that has taken days going MS to MS. The unit has been online for well over a month, at this point, without the slightest problem. Taking a few days to explore the array of Apps available, the unit now also houses my collection of audio/video files which are now playable on any smart device. Backup, both RAID and off line was also easy, although the only backup I've found so far is a complete copy and not just a mirrored sync. The only thing it hasn't replaced is my Linux/Apache sandbox/development server. While the WP Cloud has the capability, you have to hack it to get beyond the web interface and that voids the warranty - so maybe someday. In the meantime, very happy.

Easy setup, easy swap of the wd red drives, good speed, good remote access, decent price. Hard drives are NAS quality 5400. Want better speed get more expensive and by empty NAS and buy 7400 hard drives and install in the NAS, easy.

Was using a computer and external storage to create a network storage. The system wasnt bad but i dont like to leave my computer on, so i decide to pick up the mycloud ultra and solved the issue i was facing. It was easy to setup, plus you can add external harddrives via usb and add on on to your storage

This works really well for storage on our LAN. It was relatively easy to set up and I like the amount of options that are available while setting it up. I greatly appreciate that its easy to set up multiple accounts with passwords. My only complaint so far is how limited you are for RAID options, but of course you can only do so much with two drives available, regardless i feel like it was worth the price

This is the best value in a real NAS server with built in RAID. I use this for Video and document archiving .. I purchased the 8gig unit I think its the best value. You can add a second unit for a little more than the cost of the double-size unit. Be sure to know only Wd RED drive work. They are not 'hot-swap' but easy to change for long term storage if thats needed. One nice touch, my ROKU unit attached automatically via wifi.

I'm extremely happy with this purchase. Having your own cloud is no brainer these days when you don't have to pay monthly or annual fees for some cloud services that will give you less capacity than your own cloud. This drive is fast, reliable and expandable.

Works great for backing up multiple phones pictures and video files from phones, and tablets. playback works since I have a fast enough upload speed, warning if you do not have fast upload speed this sucks. I did have files I put on the NAS, and some of them are unplayable. I will need to figure out all the files and transcode them over. I have had some drive issues, but the unit maps around that and keeps going, no loss of data. NOTE: even in raid you should always have a backup off of device.

Good enough for my needs, but very slow. I just use it as an archive drive. You can't work directly from the drive as it is slow to copy. It can read somewhat faster for playback but not 4k videos.

    Security failure on home network

1-star based on security, which is a shame since otherwise this NAS was easy to setup, configure and use on a home network; and performance is suitable, if not perfect. However, especially for a NAS, if security is not absolutely transparent and reliable, then all you are doing is bundling up your most sensitive files for the convenience of a burglar ... who continue to favor such small electronics, both for the device itself and the contents. I have tried for weeks to get WD Support to confirm how to secure files on a home network. They can only respond about "Cloud access" from anywhere, which only introduces further security issues. They cannot confirm that a simple home network is or can be secured. This makes this NAS a useless security risk. I setup a Public share through My Cloud configuration, and a Private share. Any laptop that connects to our home network can access both, and there is no way to block this according to responses from WD. This means that malevolent actor can plus it into their own network, and access all of your files. Unacceptable.

I purchased the MyCloud EX2 Ultra to replace a recently failed several year old standard MyCloud drive. As this was the second MyCloud drive which I had owned and failed I did some research for alternatives. I found that the EX2 was either rated 1 or 2 depending on the review. An additional factor for me was that I had updated the previous drive to MyCloud os5 which worked extremely well and was a huge step above MyCloud os3. This drive was compatible with os5 and was the decision point for me. Setup was extremely easy on my network and connection to my Mac pretty seamless. A big benefit of this drive is that the standard configuration is RAID1. The EX2 as sold contains two 4GB network compatible hard drives. The first drive is primary storage and the second drive is a copy giving the RAID1 configuration. For a failure and loss of data to occur both drives would have to fail at the same time which is highly unlikely. For those using with Macs the drive can also be configured for TimeMachine backup. There are also a number of applications that can be configured on the EX2 including Plex which will providing local and remote streaming of music and videos that you have stored on the unit.

WD MyCloud Expert EX2 Ultra 2-Bay 8TB NAS. Configured as RAID 1/mirror so 4TB effective storage. This is my second one. The first is 5 years old and still working but got to 95% full, so I bought this second one to offload some media files. Using this new NAS as a Plex DLNA server and so far (just over 3 weeks) is working fine. I read somewhere that the built-in Plex server app was no longer supported (true or false, I don't know), so I downloaded the current version from the Plex website and used the "Install an App Manually" link without any issues. I have no need to access the NAS remotely so have not enabled Cloud Access, thus I cannot comment on that functionality. This unit was on sale at $130 off, which made it a timely bargain.

This is not the easiest to setup... took about 4 days to get it going... I can tell you this if you buy this and you are setting up the on-line app to connect to it when you set your password up make it something extremely hard that only you can remember and here is why I was using my PW that I use for most of my tech stuff and I thought it was a hard PW to get but on the app it determines that the PW is too easy... but IT DOES NOT TELL YOU WHY YOUR PW was rejected I actually found this information after many hours of setting up and reinstalling and setup and reinstalling that I changed my PW to something very hard that only I would know using number, characters and special characters trust me this is the reason why you can't log on TRUST ME changing to a very hard PW is the answer. But after all this the drive works fairly well and with out any issues I transfer about 2tb from my old OS3 drive and it went flawless and this drive is very fast and quite...
