I’m a regular user, and I’m more than happy with it. Easy to use, you just need “internet WiFi service” to use it wherever the place you be. I recommend it.

I hooked my My Cloud device into my AT&T router and was up and able to start loading the photos and videos from my phone in minutes. It is very easy to set up - literally just plug it in, download the app, create an account and go. I have the app on my phone, the desktop version and have plugged my external hard drives into the unit to download the files to My Cloud. Each device that you connect starts a new folder - so you don't have thousands of files merging together. We are going to use this for our whole family. I was able to easily send an email to my husband so he could download the app and start downloading all his files from his phone as well. It seems to go much faster that uploading to OneDrive - which is what we had been using. I am able to access the files anywhere, anytime.

Easy to use. Can be accessed from anywhere. It streams your content beautifully without degrading the original content's quality. Fast and realiable. My only and biggest complain is the product's lack of capacity to back up to an external drive. That extra USB port is kind of pointless (let's you back up from USB to NAS only, not the other way around like My Cloud EX2 did) but still i am happy with My Cloud Home. I'd be happy if an update could be made for that one, imperative need

The setup of my new WD MyCloud Home was super easy to do within a few minutes I was uploading pictures to it. Simple: 1) Connect to the router, 2) Connect power plug, 3) Verify light for connection check and 4) Setup account at mycloud.com/hello with the provided passcode. I connected my laptop and my cell phone to MyCloud Home, which was also easy. Since I don't have unlimited data on my cell phone I unselected the option of using on-the-go data. This option is great to have is you don't want to use your data. The app will only do a backup when connected via wifi. What I like most about this product is the simplification of transferring files from one device to another. My entire family heavily use computers for virtual school and work. Sometimes we have to move our work from a laptop to an iMac or from a pc to laptop. Normally we would upload files from a device to a cloud or email to have access to another device. With WD MyCloud Home, now working at home is a smoother process. Another option that my wife loves is the ability to store her photos and pictures from her mobile device to our MyCloud Home. Now she can easily organize and share her many images and videos. The speed of file upload to MyClous was like instantaneous. It did a fast backup of all my pictures and videos from my phone. Another great feature about the MyCloud is the importance of your pc/mac/device to be backup if they accidentally get deleted or your device gets ruined. In the past, I have lost precious photo moments to a laptop that was stolen and also to older iMac that suddenly stopped working. Note that when you take a device like a computer to be served by a technician they recommend to back up your files or they can also do it for you a large fee. With the MyCloud, you save yourself this fee and the headache/pain of losing important files. To close, I think the most important feature is the ability to safeguard the backup files from your pc/mac/mobile device.

Good storage, but requires software to access

I bought the My Cloud Home because it seemed like a good amount of network storage for the price, and I trust Western Digital products. I bought it to store backups of my data and act as a Plex server for media. It does the job alright but requires some workarounds to unlock its full potential. The first quirk about the My Cloud Home is that it requires software to be running on your PC to access the standard feature set. You need to log into the software with an account which also lets you access your files from the internet. I wasn't interested in all the cloud connected features; I only wanted to access my drive through the local network without any software running. It turns out it is possible to do this if you map the drive using its IP address or its network name (\\MYCLOUD-XXXXXX where the Xs are the last six characters of the serial number). The next quirk is the PLEX integration which honestly wasn't a requirement for me, but kind of neat that it's there. As far as I can tell, the hardware on this device isn't meant for heavy PLEX usage, maybe a single stream with no transcoding. It runs a custom version of the PLEX software that lags behind the latest release, and will likely not keep receiving updates years from now. It also does not allow flexibility in how the libraries are structured. All of your media files must be stored in the standard set of library folders that the PLEX software installs. If you want a serious PLEX streaming server, look elsewhere. In conclusion, the My Cloud Home does what I need it to do at a good price point.

Loved this drive, until it failed

The MyCloud Home 2TB drive made an excellent NAS for my system. Then 2 days ago the drive failed. It lasted exactly 2 years and 10 days from the purchase date. Always keep good backups. My backups were minimal but all the most important stuff was saved. WD support was very responsive when I first emailed them that there was a problem. They gave me some things to try and asked for a little more info... led status, online/offline status, etc. I sent the requested info, and after a respectful pause I got links to two articles the following day, that "may help". I call this kind of support "Well this should keep him busy for awhile". This drive is dead Jim. As disgruntled as I am with the failed drive, while it worked it was a great little drive. Needing a quick replacement NAS to which I can restore my backups, I bought another WD MyCloud Home drive!!! Setup was as easy as the first time and it is now running great... However, the timer is running and I won't be very happy if I only get two years out of this new drive!

This has got to be the best way to save your files if you are a person that travels a lot like me. I don't have to worry about bring storage drives anymore, as this solves that issue. No matter where I am, I can access my files. If I'm my iMac, MacBook, PC, Android phone, iPhone, anywhere. I can use the app or the web to get to them or store them. Buy this now, you will love it. Transferring files is amazingly fast, and syncs right away. Get it now, you won't regret it.

I was looking for a Network Attached Storage (NAS) device for backing up to Time Machine with a central drive and this isn't that bad of a product. It's small, has decent amounts of storage, and requires no skillset to configure. But with that being said, it's not particularly great. First, setting up this device is so easy. In fact, that's part of the problem. There is no way to set up a static IP address, no way to allocate storage, and more importantly, no backup solutions for the NAS. It's really just limited to storage and backup of your computer and that's it. And it does all this very well. Where it fails, however, it fails big time. For example, Time Machine backups are unencrypted posing a security risk. This is a no-go for me as I'm constantly backing up sensitive data. Also, there is zero redundancy so if this drive fails, you're in trouble. Integration with S3 or Wasabi would be nice but I get why they don't integrate this here. This is a consumer grade product, after all. Also, very poor integration in the iOS space means that using this as a cloud drive just isn't really a good idea. However, if you're looking for something simple for your home, this is it. It does do a great job of storage and backup. And if you don't mind the lack of security, Time Machine is fantastic. Also, it has a built-in Plex server for the win. It's really not terrible. For me, however, this is going back. I am picking up a My Cloud Mirror for use in my home that does everything I need with RAID capabilities and S3 built in and encrypted Time Machine.

Pros: Easy set-up. Almost plug-and-play. Files uploaded fine, although took a while with the amount I had. Cons: Files are difficult to go through as I have not found a way to sort the files (i.e. date, size, name, etc.).

WD is always dependable when buying a hard disk drive but don't assume too much. This is a great product but it does involve a little technical knowledge to setup. It's not plug and play as I would normally expect. The Hard Drive inside is preformatted and will only work as WD intended. Once you follow all the instructions and get it configured correctly it works fine.

I bought this hard drive to replace a previous WD MyBook drive that performed very well, so I naturally got another WD device. It works very well on my home network to back up the files of my home desktop and two laptops - easy to hook up and install. The only trick resided with the latest Windows 10 OS, that required a few extra steps to make each computer recognize the device. WD provides very clear directions on their website on how to do this, so it was not a problem. Overall I am very pleased with this MyCloud drive.

When I went to replace a couple of Windows 7 for Windows 10 computers, I asked about the compatibility of my almost 10-year-old external backup hard drive. I was told that such systems have a limited reliable life span--who knew! (In fact, my old system failed to launch in the Windows 10 environment.) My Geek Squad consultant recommended and installed the Western Digital - My Cloud Home. It seems to be working well, and is less noticeable/intrusive than my old system had been.

We decided to try a personal cloud for our storage of photos & documents. Did a bit of research, and found this (non-China) product. Initially, I couldn't view and access like you normally would with an external drive. It would let me see what was stored, but couldn't make edits or bring photos to different programs to make projects. After some updates and restarts, this device finally displays as the "Z" drive and I can access files just my previous external drives. I've noticed that it will just randomly disconnect, so on the app I have to unclick and then reclick the button for automatic backup. When it works like it's supposed to, it will just do auto-saves and then notify me that everything is backed up.

Rather than pay for a cloud service, I bought this. It's great. Does exactly what I need it to do (remote access of my files). This also gives me the peace of mind to know my files are safe. My only complaint is I wish it synced to my files automatically.
