Pros: great memory, easy to set-up to your network, can access information anywhere, comes with a software device you can load on as many phones or computers as you wish, can also access it via internet Cons: can’t load their software on one of my computers, even after 2.5hrs of customer care team remotely going in they can’t get it to load, there is no way to map the drive either evidently (although I am not sure why), their base level tech support is pathetic, they have an advanced team in California who is much better, the base level team can’t keep promises to return calls when they say they will, the web access is okay but it is not a great by any means. Overall: I have owned many WD devices over the years, this would have been amazing had WD done a better job on their software. It seems like it is something they rushed into the market place. I kind of wish I had looked longer and investigated other options.

This device is better than the previous my cloud device. The new app is very user-friendly, unlike the previous cloud Drive I were I had to go in my router and the my cloud settings for it to make adjustments to be able to access it outside my network. d the settings for it to make adjustments to be able to access it outside my network. The new My Cloud home app is not that complicated I am able to access it outside my network with ease.

I purchased this to have a shared storage location for my family and backup my existing hard drives. It was simple to set up (used my laptop w/ windows 10), and straightforward for adding files/sharing. It was well worth the price, and a great alternative to the file sharing subscription services (and recurring fees).

Easy to set up. The only negative is with streaming any media to local devices, for example through Roku or Fire Stick. Plex seems to be the only supported App. VLC, my go to app for media streaming, doesn't seem to work. Making Plex to recognize newly added files is a bit tricky.

I bought this hard drive for my small office. We use multiple computers to managed different printers ( Mac and Windows). The set up on each was really quick and in no time I was able to transfer and store files. I hope 4 TB will be enough for a while. I wish it could be expandable. Great product for the cost

My only MyBook Live was struck by lightening, so I had to replace it pretty quickly, as this is my primary backup solution. This device is much easier to administrate and use versus the older model I had. This is definitely tailored towards consumers without much backup storage savvy. The only bad thing I can say about it is the gigantic window that opens every time I restart my laptop, showing me my drive list. I really wish I could turn that off.

Bought this as a supplement to a QNAP NAS to store media from a DJI Mavic Air and Mavic Mini and be able to access it anywhere. It does not playback 4K video which was fine since I just wanted access and not so much to play it. Overall, you get quite a bit for what you pay for, including enough space and speed along with Plex (a little limited from the full package).

If you are looking for an economical cloud storage device this is it. The down side of the device is its limited app eco system. If you are looking to just have an additional place to store your files it's perfect. If you want to use it to serve up music and videos, this is the limitation. It has very few app resources to allow you to do this. Plex is basically your only option. Plex is solid, but limited.

    Great Backup and Server product!

This was a great buy! I was originally looking to get another PC to use as a server, and one of the reps brought this product up. It works great! Ample space for not just my photos (I'm an amateur photographer) and all of my documents, music, and videos. I can also sync the folders so that they are automatically backed up when I add folders or more files. This also comes with an app that you can use to back up the information on your phone. There's also an option to use other server options on this so that you can see all of the data wherever you are. Well worth the $200 for the purchase, and it also saved money on another PC that I didn't have to get. The only problem that I've had with this was one day when I think Western Digital was having some problems with their servers, so I couldn't access it from my PC even on my home network - but that was fixed though the same day and I was back up and running.

Love this. For small business or home use. 1 machine for direct connection, add users by email invite. Web access is 99% consistent (i believe any "drops" is due to ISP). The web access portal for users is point, click, drop. Easy for non technically adept users. No need for remote access, sharing drives, etc.

I wanted to go a cheaper route instead of getting a NAS so I purchased this as a standalone for Plex to replace my pc as a Plex server. Plenty of available space for media, docs, phone backups, and more. Setup is simple and the app is easy to understand and navigate.

You Can Only Access Files Through WD Servers!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I strongly advise against buying the My Cloud Home. The biggest issue? You can ONLY access your files through WD's servers! If there’s a problem with their servers, or if they’re down, you lose all access to your data. This has happened multiple times – the device just won’t connect to their servers, leaving me completely locked out of my own files. For a product that's marketed as "personal cloud storage," it’s shocking that there's no reliable, direct way to access your data on your local network. The connectivity issues are constant, and the dependency on WD's servers makes this device more of a liability than a useful storage solution. If you need dependable, secure access to your data, look elsewhere. This device is simply not reliable, and the server dependence is a major design flaw.

So happy that I purchased this Cloud Drive! My wife and I's phones were running out of storage space, so we wanted a solution that didn't involve monthly payments. I found out about this drive on BestBuy's website and couldn't be happier! I can access my files anywhere in home, or out (as long as there is an internet connection). 4TBs is PLENTY of space for the photos and videos taken from our phones and will be for years to come!

WD-My Cloud Home 4TB personal cloud storage

I have been looking for a backup cloud storage for awhile. My primary reasons for getting the drive was for backup and access to my data from anywhere. The WD My-Cloud Home storage does both. I am able to backup all my data and pictures to the drive. I also can access the data from anywhere with an internet connection. First, to install it took less than five minutes. Unbox the unit, plug it in to power and attach the cable to my router. I go to the URL, register my email address and enter the drive registration number, provided by WD, create a password and it works! The great benefit of this device is that it provides you backup to your data, access to all your data (and pictures) from anywhere and it is easy to set up. I highly recommend thsi product.

It has a alot of space for all my images. The only thing I'm not liking is the software and app is not very open to users. I can't access the drive without the software been installed. Meaning I can't map it as network drive on my computer unless I download the software and logging.

This hard drive has potential to be great but falls short of it. It has rebooted itself two times since I purchased. The ability to retrieve and save your files on the go is great. Maybe the rebooting might be a software issue. It is compact making it easy for it to blend in with router and modem. Setup was easy, so no need to hire anyone to do it for you.

It got to the point where I realized we had alot of important non-backed up info that would be painful to lose. Rather than get 3 external drives. this was a far more practical and easier to implement and use. You can even set certain folders (or all of them) to automatically synch with the cloud.
