I was a long time user of the original "My Cloud" When I received an e mail from WD they were no longer supporting the WD My Cloud which used OS3. So it was time for an update. I purchased the "My cloud Home". Great decision. The new interface is much better and faster. It has larger storage capacity. The android app doesn't keep crashing like the old app did. The drive is completely silent. The My Cloud was good but the My Cloud Home is much better.

You Can Only Access Files Through WD Servers!

I strongly advise against buying the My Cloud Home. The biggest issue? You can ONLY access your files through WD's servers! If there’s a problem with their servers, or if they’re down, you lose all access to your data. This has happened multiple times – the device just won’t connect to their servers, leaving me completely locked out of my own files.
For a product that's marketed as "personal cloud storage," it’s shocking that there's no reliable, direct way to access your data on your local network. The connectivity issues are constant, and the dependency on WD's servers makes this device more of a liability than a useful storage solution.
If you need dependable, secure access to your data, look elsewhere. This device is simply not reliable, and the server dependence is a major design flaw.

If you are looking for your Private Cloud with a good Price This was exactly I was looking for, beside the bad comments that you can found online, for my personal experience in overall works as is intended

Works well once you get it setup. Difficult to setup as there are zero instructions included. Had to call support for assistance and I am very techy. Does NOT work with Acronis True Image backup software that WDC supplies for free for their products. You can use the Windows file history backup software instead. I had to install WD discovery software and map a network drive in Windows to make it work.
Purchased it because it has a much lower cost than the competition and am a previous owner of several MyCloud devices..

While this device is very easy to setup, I do not like that it has less control and functionality that the previous generation. The App that you use to manage the device is extremely limited. In some regard, if their desire was to make this so easy my grandma could use it, they succeeded. However, I would prefer to be able to take some greater control in the settings like the previous generation drives allowed. Unless they make some significant updates in the coming weeks, I will likely return this for another older model drive.

I purchased this to replace a WD My Cloud since support was discontinued on that device. Well a few months after purchasing this support ended for all WD software.
Then all of my folders disappeared.
This is a known issue as the WD forums proved.
You have to clear all settings once a day and redo local access to gain local access again.
Don't even try to map it as a folder. It will not be there in a few hours.
Since WD discontinued it's software support you need 3rd party software to backup but it will only work once if your lucky then the folders will disappear again.
I own a bunch of WD backups but this is by far the WORST and waste of my money and time.
I am looking for something that works but this is nuts.
WD Support is useless as they tell me to do the same thing over and over.
I will never buy a WD device again. I lost all hope in them.
100% Junk.

Had an older WD NAS and loved it. Needed a new one and went this route. Whole the ease of using from a computer is great trying to stream from my Samsung TV is daunting. So far I am not a fan of Plex. Wish there was another way to view my storage on the TV without the Plex app.

I looked at several different options for expanding the storage for my computer, and making it accessible to everyone in the house. Finally chose this for connecting to my router and making it accessible to everyone.

Simple setup. Used easily to access home photos on the go. Did notice though that it was making some noise while not in use. I unplug it when I’m at home and it’s not in use.

This was to replace my older WD cloud drive which was great, but after many many years, needed to be replaced. The software is not intuitive, and I have to map it as a network drive to my windows systems now, which is okay, but if I use their software, I cannot access the files on the network drive. It connects over the LAN and is fast enough. I always get WD drives, because in the past they have been easy to use and reliable. If I would have known about the changes, I would have gotten a USB Drive and connected it via my router which has USB 3.0 ports

Honestly I want to like this product, but it's pretty terrible. There's some expectation of speed and reliability that just do not exist.
Firstly, if the unit power cycles for any reason, it will index all the files again which takes a lengthy period of time, depending on how much space you've used, it can be over an hour. It's not accessible during this period.
Secondly, the unit will randomly go offline, which requires a powercycle.(see above)
Finally, the WD software required is bloated and slow.
Sadly, I bought this as part of a planned install that was delayed, so I missed my return window and am now stuck with a product that I won't be using.

I was skeptical at first but purchased this and set it up very easily. I added my family on so that they can all back up their iphone photos or computers. I like being able to create albums that I can share with friends, and I can access it anywhere.

It’s ok. It doesn’t have direct access from a usb to computer. You have to access all your files or whatever from the link via login. Besides that it’s good for backups and fair priced. But the application does lag wish it was as smooth as Apple cloud or google photos. But if your looking to save money it’s an ok buy

Great way to have all your stuff in one place. Connects to all my devices. You can even share individual folders with others if needed.
