Customers are saying

Customers are impressed with the My Cloud Mirror's ease of use, ample storage capacity, and relatively easy setup process. Many appreciate its RAID capabilities for data protection and the ability to access files from various devices. However, some users experienced slow backup speeds and found the accompanying software to be less than ideal. Overall, the positive feedback on ease of use and storage outweighs the concerns about software and backup performance.

When our backup hard drive failed, we needed a way to have a workiing backup with icloud storage. All of our devices can push backup to this, and cannot tell you how happy we are. Great choice!

The hardware is fine, but instructions stink. Install instructions list a website which does not have the install software labeled as such. After a couple of guesses, found the right software. Once installed, worked OK.

it is super slow. Sharing files doesn't work as it should. It should be a beta product. They shouldn't be selling this as a final product.

I installed it on wIndows 7 Premium and it constantly had problems with the Software - It was difficult to set up as a dedicated IP. I had an IT professional try installing it a few times and I had similar problems that others did on the web. This product (WD Mirror) was released too soon before they rung out the bugs. It's a great concept but I switched to a buffalo 420 series with much better success.

It is hard to figure this thing out. I still cannot get all of the features to work. Having a personal mycloud is NOT as easy as it sounds. Very difficult to get file put into it remotely.

First, GREAT product. I'm using this to store all my HD recorded videos from Windows Media Center. I have several HTPCs throughout the house, so if I store my recordings on the My Cloud, I have access to them from any HTPC in my home, anytime. It works! It works great! I have this configured in RAID 1. If you aren't familiar with RAID, I suggest you get online and do a little reading. In RAID 1, you WILL NOT get 4 TB of storage. You will only get 2 TB, but each drive stores a mirror image of the data so that if one drive fails, your data is safe. (this is a wonderful capability, see below). You can configure this NAS to get a full 4 TB of storage, but then you don't get the mirror backup of your data. I knew this going in, I bought it specifically for the RAID 1 mirror capability. If you want more storage plus the mirror backup, you'll have to get one of the larger models. HOWEVER.......after 20 days one of the drives hard failed. It was very easy to see using the Dashboard which drive failed; the status lights on front of the device also indicated something was up with drive 1. Now, since I only had this for 20 days, and I was a BB Elite member, I just returned it to the store. Had it been out of it's return period, I would have had to go through WD support portal to get a drive replaced. Nice thing is, since I used RAID 1 (which is default), all my data was safe. I could have just popped out the bad drive and put in a new one and the system would have restored the data to the new drive. Very nice! I just got the new device yesterday, and with BB's Holiday return policy, I have until the end of Jan again, so if this presents another failure, I'll be able to return it and decide if I want money back or replacement. I really hope the reliability is good - it's such a nice product. So, I give it 4 stars for the early failure. Keep in mind, this is not a flaw of this particular NAS, it's just a drive failure. The My Cloud Mirror used WD Red hard drives - you can buy them at many online retailers. Sometimes drives are bad - it's the way things are. Funny, the Red drives are built specifically for 24/7 NAS applications, but they don't get as good of ratings as the WD Blue or Black drives. Go figure? So, I'll give this 1 mulligan - especially since it was a HDD failure. Had the enclosure itself failed, I would be more concerned. The speed is extremely fast - I have it connected to a Gig Ethernet switch and I get flawless streaming of HD videos over my network. HELPFUL TIP: If you want to map the drive in windows so it appears as a letter, go into File Explorer and map the network drive and when windows wants you to type in the Folder name, type in \\WDMyCloudMirror and select your Drive letter of choice. Works great for me.

My second one. It was easy to setup and share across all my devices. It doesn't act like a traditional file folder, like a plugged-in hard drive or Dropbox does. Works fine. I have all my photos on it and can easily access from any where using WD My Cloud app.

I bought this to host media around my home network. Set up was a breeze, and transferring media in a Windows environment was as easy as drag-and-drop. Distributes media like a champ to all machines connected to the network. Small price to pay to have all my media backed up in duplicate, and I haven't really even scratched the surface of what this is capable of.

I got this about half a year ago and have found it to be reliable and easy to configure. It has the advantage of using the WD Red series drives, which are designed for NAS applications and are more reliable than the WD Green drives used in some older units. The user manual is comprehensive and the included software is easy to navigate and use. I have not yet taken advantage of the ability to access the drive over the web, using it only on my home network. I appreciate that functionality and the ability to add various additional types of software (see the manual or the WD website). I will probably get another of these for additional uses on my home network with my additional computers.

PLEASE, before writing reviews on products, know your level of experience, For the money this product is very easy to set up, it works seamlessly on USB, and if your network cant find it then pay attention to your network firewall and your computers firewall for network discovery.. Caution to those who want to access it from outside their office, firewalls and proper port forwards are a must for protection. Dont blame a product because of your knowledge.
