This ssd is much smaller and lighter than the hard drives. In addition, it's much faster. Totally worth spending the money.

I purchased this for use with an iMac, so one should keep that in mind wrt my review, as it's formatted for and marketed for Windows machines. I was able to reformat it for High Sierra macOS new APFS filesystem by first using the included WD utility to reformat it to HFS+/Journaled and then the macOS Disk Utility for reformat it to APFS. However, this seemed to offer no advantage and because of possible problems with legacy software I ended up reformatting it again to HFS+/J after which it seems to work fine with macOS, but frankly, even with USB 3.0, it writes slower than my LaCie SSD drive connected via Firewire. Therefore I cannot recommend it for use with a Mac, but should work fine with Windows. Note: the thing is really tiny - about 1 1/2 in by 3 in; it also gets really warm during extended use, probably because of that small size having limited convective surface.

So, after intense research (as in googling lots of things lul) I decided to purchase the My Passport from WD. The other contender was the Samsung T3 which was about 20 dollars more expensive for the exact same thing. Everything else I looked at wasn't as good (according to youtube reputable youtube reviewers) so this is by far one of the best External SSDs you can purchase as of 8/9/17. So that's the simple overview of why I choose to buy this. My purpose for buying this was so I can move my steams games on to it. As well as back up important programs I will be creating as I will be attending College (WIT) in a week. So far it's working great the transfer speeds are fast and most important thing is it doesn't really get "hot" but it does get warm which is normal. I also really like the fact it used USB-C which will be more prevalent into the future when more and more devices and even more phones are starting to adopt this port. The only issue I have with it is the frame it really really really bothers me is the fact the cable when plugged in wobbles and also the more important issue fact there is slight flex of the unit itself I don't plan on being rough with it. So if it breaks I'm really gonna be really really upset somewhere into the future upset. like the thing flex like if I were the forget it was in my back pocket and sit on it would break and I'm a small frame guy. This isn't Best Buy's fault but WD's so I hope this is normal cause the small flexing really stresses me.

The SSD are more expensive than the regular hard drive but the small physical size is a benefit for some applications.

I bought this one because I wanted an SSD external memory drive that won't break. Last one I had (wasn't SSD) broke when I dropped it from the bed to the floor and lost absolutely all my info. I love this one. It's so small too.

The fastest drive I have ever used. Underlying is the M.2 technology. It is not sata. So it s really fast.

I use this with my Alienware 17 R4 with usb type-c to type-c and the transfer rate is insane. I believe the fastest I've transferred from my internal SSD to this external one was up to 300MB/s. I love this external storage and might buy another if I fill it up.

Picked this up to connect to an XboxOneS because the load times were too long in my opinion. This cut all load time roughly in half. It is much faster than the internal drive. Also was smaller than I envisioned. Really happy with it.

This drive comes complete with backup software that competes with my Two(2) WD passports for transfer speeds.I want the reliability of static drive versus that of the dynamic drives, and this is the one to have.

Great portable drive. It's small enough to fit anywhere when I travel and really fast when sharing or transferring files. Really like the WD software that keeps my data secure if not connected to my PC.
