Customers are saying
Customers highly value the ample storage space, ease of use, and compact size of the My Passport Ultra 2TB external hard drive. Many also appreciate its reliability and fast USB 3.0 transfer speeds, considering it good value for the price. While some users found the included software less useful or experienced minor issues with heat or weight, these concerns were less frequently reported than the positive feedback.

Good size in every way
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm almost five-star happy with this drive. It loses a star because -- rarely and randomly -- it unmounts and remounts itself, which makes me nervous, though it hasn't caused any harm that I can tell. Other than that, I love having 2TB in a device smaller than my hand, and at USB 3.0 speeds. Well worth the $100 I paid for it, and I see it's sometimes on sale for considerably less. I've been using it for about two months.

Fantastic portable hard drive with lots of space!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A nice fast drive with No issues! I take it with me on photo shoots; on planes across the country - it's seen the inside of many historical libraries. I have 8 WD external HDs - great workhorses - just hook it up and it runs! I'm a photographer and raw file sizes can be large - I always back up to 2 external hard drives plus make a DVD copy. I'm also a genealogist and have scanned hundreds of pictures; the new larger HD make it easier to keep everything in the same place. Knock on wood, I have never had a failure. I am running Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 64-bit. I use both 3.0 and 2.0 connectivity, depending on the computer I hook these up to. I don't use the included backup software - would rather drag and drop files & folders I use these drives primary as HD media storage, accessing them directly through USB and my home network

Easy to use; good price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This external hard drive was easy to set up. I have a Mac and it had to be refomatted before using, but this was easily done with on-screen instructions. The price was good and the unit is nice and small.

Great Portable Storage - also works with Xbox One
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I use this as added storage space for the Xbox One. Very easy set up even for a non-techy person. Everything works great and it's small size is perfect if you want to take it with you. Definitely recommend!

Great upgrade
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an upgrade por my 1TB external Drive. With my old one, I would need an electrical outlet nearby to make it work. Not with this one. All I have to do is plug it in my computer and transfer my files. Transfers are way faster, and for 2TB, I can save all my photos, and family videos in one little box. It is compatible with all my video players, including my Smart tv. I can watch videos with no problem. The only thing I don't like, is that it gets scratches pretty easily, but all you need to do is make or buy a little protective bag. It is so small I can carry it in my purse.

Great Hard Drive
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are looking for massive USB 3.0 powered storage look no further. I back up to this hard drive almost daily, and it goes with me everywhere in my laptop bag. I edit video for submission on YouTube, and the footage gets edited and rendered from the external hard drive. I would say bandwidth is more than sufficient for 1080p60 50M footage off my Sony Actioncam. So far it is holding up fine, just like the two other 1TB units I bought about a year ago. The only downside is that this particular hdd is somewhat thicker than the smaller units due to the extra platter it takes to get to 2TB storage. But if you can live with the marginal increase in thickness (footprint is the same) I would go for it!

So far, so good.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've only had this drive for a couple of months, and so far it's been holding up nicely. I don't have USB 3.0, so I can't test the ultra-fast speeds, but my major concern is mostly that it works and doesn't become a brick, which especially seems to be a problem with these little portable drives. After going through a lot of cheap Seagates and having them break in less than two years, I realized I still have a Western Digital drive from 2009 (It's a 1 TB My Book, and it's almost 2016 at this writing and still working great) so it was time to try another WD. It's a nice-looking little drive, and it's convenient to not be tied down by power cables. Here's hoping this one lasts.

Does what it should
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this external HDD on sale for backing up my Macbook Pro and so far it has worked exactly as expected. I formatted the device into a single HFS+ partition and currently have about 1.5 TB of data on it. It is USB powered and mounts within about 3 seconds of plugging it into my computer. Data read and write times are as expected for a USB 3.0 device. The device is quiet and has only a single bluish-white LED that blinks periodically when the device is in use. Historically I have had very few problems with WD drives and expect this to be quite reliable.

Love WD Passports
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my 10th WD Passport Drive. I've been computing since the mid 1980's and have used WD passports exclusively for backup and extra storage since they first came on the market. Having to travel for work, I especially like their sturdy construction and small size. These days they are pretty much plug and play. I don't usually use their backup software, but did find it easy to use. I have only had trouble with one of them and that was probably due to my trying to use one drive for both a PC with Norton and Mac Time Machine backups. While possible, it can be problematic. Customer support was great, very professional and they replaced the drive. .

Great storage
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's easy to use and compact. Love that I could put all my files from my laptop on it, so I could do a hard reset. I love knowing that all of my memories (pictures) won't be lost.

Does the trick for my X-box one
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Unbeknownst to me, even if you have a disc for an x-box one game, it still dumps the bulk of the data onto your hard-drive so the hard-drive can fill up quickly, especially if you take advantage of the free games being a gold subscriber provides....Now unto the drive..its USB 3.0 so it's fast enough and since it is USB driven there is no separate power supply you have to turn on...once you turn on the Xbox, the drive automatically turns on too. It's quiet and small so you don't even know it's there...the USB cord that comes with it could stand to be 8 inches longer though.

External Hard Drive
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was a great deal. It is USB 3, but will work with USB 2. It is fast, small (fits in your pocket). It comes with security software, which is sort of cool. No one can turn this thing on, and get into your files. It is impossible once you set up the password to get into it. I even tried reformatting the drive to test it, and it will not let you in. Plenty of room for tons of music, videos, pictures etc. Highly recommend!

Fast and Reliable
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Western Digital storage devices are best for average consumers. I have used WD external and internal hard disk drives without any problems, so when I needed an external drive to back up the data on my Mac Mini I purchased thie My Passport Ultra. The 3.0 interface enabled the Mac Minie to create a backup within 3 hours. Copying large files of 20 gigabytes takes just 15 minutes. Awesome drive.

Best for encrypted backups
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my second 2T Passport drive. I wanted a backup of my backup. Just like my first one, this one works flawlessly. I really like the fact that the drive can be encrypted via hardware built into the drive. This protects me should the drive fall into the wrong hands. I believe no one should buy a drive that lacks this feature. The other thing I want to say is that USB 3.0 is FAST. Backups take place in a fraction of the time it takes to back up using USB 2.0.

So far Awesome
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Does what it says it does. If you intend to do across different OSs (Mac, Windows, Linux), connect to a Windows PC and format it as exFat. FAT won't anywhere, but windows. If you format in NTFS, Mac only read, but can't read data. However, Samsung TVs (7250 bought in 2012) won't recognize exFat format. I was able to play through XBox One though, so it's not a big deal, though not convenient as directly connecting to TV. It's not fault of WD. Overall, great product.

Everyone should have/use a portable HD
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Used to purchase a 1 TB portable hard drive for storing my photos (semi pro photographer) but needed a larger capacity since I running out of storage space more quickly after upgrading cameras. This HD had a great price/ easy to use (plug and use) and fast for backing up files. With any files, be it Music, documents, or photos, they should be backed up to an external hard drive so that you do not lose them when the computer/laptop crashes and it will.

Great portable drive for backup
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Western Digital 2 TB External Portable Hard Drive was perfect for creating a backup of my laptop while away from home. It's small in size, with a large capacity. Just start the backup process, and it takes care of the rest. Easy to use. This is my second WD portable hard drive. (I outgrew the first one.) Buy one big enough to handle future data storage needs!

Great drive
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am a professional photographer and fill up drives super fast with shooting in RAW on a d800. One wedding can run 60GB easy so I need something larger in size that was dependable and could hold a year worth of photos for backup for me. Also needed something that would work great with OS X and PC. I have a Seagate that will only recognize half the time in my Mac unless I restart the computer and is really frustrating. Absolutely love it!!!!

Lots of Fast Storage at a Great Price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Excellent portable drive. I had lower capacity of WD drives and worked well and was looking for a higher capacity like this. Best buy only had this at a great deal price during my Purchase. These drives has USB 3.0 ports so the data transfers for backup and very fast. Note: This is also compatible with USB 2.0. Drive looks sleek and thin. Use this to Backup all our Photos and data. Never had any issues with WD Passport models.
