This is a really neat portable hard drive. It is a plug and play that runs off of the USB without the need for an additional power source. It is working as advertised. I use it to back up my computer and I have my movie and music collections on it as well. I like being able to carry it where ever I go and when ever I need it.

Overall: If there is a cool sale or if you're willing to spend a few dollars on a slick design then it's a decent 2TB option. Current use: Time Machine formatted at 750GB for Macbook Pro 13" (early 2015). 750GB parition exFAT. 500GB mac partition There was a generous sale, I needed something Mac compatible. Mac was part of the description. Started as a frustrating disappointment. Ended up a solid piece of hardware that works well but in my opinion is a little bit gimmicky. 2TB can be acquired for less money. The design is cool but seems to drive the price(unless I'm missing something). I knew nothing about drives when I purchased this(used only mobile devices for the past 7 years). But the journey of figuring out how to best use this has helped me learn a lot about Windows/Mac OS, formatting, backups, compatibility, and may even help me influence my next purchase of an actual computer. Turns out most external drives can be formatted for Mac. This one was not formatted for Mac out of the box so at first I was disappointed at first. The Dropbox features is only for Windows. That also was disappointing. The instructions on formatting were not totally the same as what I had to do to make the drive compatible with a MacBook Pro. I am using this as a Time Machine for a Mac laptop. Initially I must have chosen a superior level of encryption because it took 4 days to create first backup. I had to get online and figure out that with El Capitan I could disable all throttling and get processes like these to speed up. I was able to store my Windows download for BootCamp on this drive.

Very nice, rugged, and eye-catching hard drive that can be encrypted. You can encrypt the hard drive for all computers, or you can have it encrypted to every other computer than your own. The USB 3.0 insurers a high-speed transfer. Transferred 79 gigabytes of HD video from my desktop to the hard drive and approximately 8 minutes

Use for Mac Time Machine backup. Perfect size, weight, & outstanding capacity. FAST backup! Exceeds my needs & expectations!

It is a nice useful hard drive. small and light. Easy to use with both Mac and windows. Worked well for me. Steel cover makes it look shiny!

The Western Digital Passport Is a Great backup and extra storage device. I was able to partition the drive so that the backup is in one drive and still have another drive for portable storage, It was very easy to have a backup no problems. The software is all setup to do the job. BEST BUYS DEAL MADE IT HAPPEN

This device was much smaller than I was expecting and I like the metal case. It can easily fit into my laptop bag. It does a great job of backing up my laptop quickly. I haven't had to perform a restore yet, so I can't speak as to how it does at restoring. (Hopefully we never had to find out)

Huge fan of all WD storage products, have not had a single failure or issue. This new USB 3.0 drive is perfect for those who still are working with last gen 3.0 and need to transfer files quickly and easily, or, have a storage device that allows for quick access to your information.

This external hard drive is working out very well. I needed a drive for use with my Carbonite backup subscription that includes a mirrored local drive (in addition to the cloud-based backup). Working great. Have used WD Passport drives in the past, so this was an easy choice for me.

Very happy with my new backup device. I like to keep my music and photos backed up away from my computer and this is the perfect device for the job. Only pet peeve is that years ago when you bought storage devices they came with free cases. Now you have to purchase one separately.
