I purchased the player to replace my aging Netgear NEO 550 to stream my dvd/blu ray collection of movies stored on my NAS hard drives over a wired Ethernet connection and so this review is narrowed to what my intended purpose was for purchasing this player. If someone is good working with folders and selecting the proper movie file, this player will work for you. The player is more geared towards people who are more technical, otherwise, they may have problems playing their movie collection via media streaming. Cover Art can be added to each of the movie folders but clicking on the movie icon will not automatically start the movie without locating the proper movie file and selecting it to play. The player firmware is not designed to play ripped blu ray movies in their whole disc native format. The movies must be converted to .ISO files to be play only the movie and the player will only play the movie and not the entire menu structure of the blu ray movie. This means all the added features and extras on a blu ray disc are not available via streaming. If you are looking for the added internet services such as Netflix, Hulu, Pandora, etc, this player provides these services very well but so does most other players of this type on the market today. Streaming your movie collection can be done with a bit of work but you are limited by the software on how they will play.

I have being using media players for a while now. Generally, I have found WD's models to be the best for the price and for the features it offers.

Product so great I had to buy it for another TV to make it smart. It makes it easy to view Netflix, listen to Pandora, watch Hulu, etc. It's a very good device to supplement buying a newer TV. The only thing is that you cannot add apps to the device but it has most I the apps that are widely used.

Wish I had gotten it sooner. Very happy with this purchase. Does everything it's advertised to do and then some. Works with a wide variety of file types. Has HDMI output. What I like most is that it functions as a Network Storage server device for use between all computers attached to your home network.

It worked fine right out of the box. Mine did several software updates that took a while, but then functioned just fine. It has an incredible variety of programming, and does not demand a credit card like Roku does. I did not even consider the AppleTV after seeing one in action at the home of a friend.

Great product plays anything I throw at it. My only complaining is navigation can be painfully slow

plays all my downloaded movies mkv,avi,vob,dvd files without need for tversity like my other devices. Wireless off of nas never locks up, haven't tried USB port. Apps a pretty sparse but has hulu and Netflix, so I get my use.

I returned it. It does not play many of the video types I had on my hard drive. I bought a dvd player with a usb port instead.

This is the second WD HD box I have owned. I loved my old one, but this one takes it to new levels. It has some awesome features like facebook and youtube included, and does an even better job reading all the different media files from my hard drives. One I would highly recommend!

Worked well out of the box. Connected wired to the Internet and apps worked instantly. There were some setup issues getting network shares to show up running win 8. Plenty of tips online that will eventually work. Seems to be hit for miss. Overall I would recommend if you have a large movie collection with multiple file types. Otherwise if your looking for just an Internet stream box I'd go with a roku.

This was the second time I bought this product. I gave this one to a friend for Christmas. This product is great for travelers with wifi access and military deployments. Use a small hard drive with movies, music, or pictures and you have a mobile library with lots to do.

I watch one in uses an liked all shows stations,proformed great when I try setup still not working good for me.

Used this media player for Netflix Hulu and connecting hard drive to watch movies. this thing worked like a champ up until it died last year. wished they could have continued making them.

I have purchased 2 of these to stream movies to different parts of my house. Plays a wide range of formats.

If you backup movie files like I do and want a player that will play a large majority of formats, get this! If you just want to stream Netflix, Hulu, etc... get Roku! This device may be to complicated to operate for the non-technically inclined.

Good product, works perfect with wd live drive, will use forever

I have tried several other media players and the WD is by FAR superior to them all. Given that it is in the same price range as the others, it represents excellent value for money.

It's a great device to watch movies. And it's portable which it makes it easier to watch anywhere.
