Because of the time and place of this film, it is difficult for younger people to fathom what it was like to be a part of what was to become the Vietnam War. When the idea of Air Cav was first proposed, Col Hal Moore was given the chance to prove the idea of small, battles, small units and complete mobility. The story of the first Air Cavalry unit to fight in Vietnam only covers the first battle of the 1st Bn. 7th Cavalry but it does justice to the men who fought and died in that battle.

I bought this movie to learn about the Ia Drang incident in November 1965. I expected the movie to be like many war movies...lots of glitz and unreal scenes. Having read the book, the movie followed the book very well. I would recommend this to any Vietnam War historian.
