Best Weezer album in years!

Let me start of by saying that I have been a fan of Weezer since their eponymous debut album. So to say this review is impartial would be untrue. I am however, objective enough to know that despite being "back to the shack" on their last album 'Everything will be alright in the end', Weezer albums have been more hit and miss in the last 10 or 15 years. Every release sees at least one of two real catchy tunes but the albums as a whole weren't as cohesive as say, Pinkerton was. 'The White Album' goes a long way in recapturing that ebb and flow of past great Weezer albums. It's definately the most upbeat and happy Rivers and the guys have sounded... maybe ever. This was a conscious decision of two different directions that the band and the producer wanted to take on this particular album. Rivers wanted to do something different this time around, and the producer wanted them to recapture the poppiness and fuzzed out chords n reverb of their earliest stuff. What you have here is a perfect marriage of those two creative directions. There are songs that resemble early fan favorites like 'Susanne' (LA Girlz) and a song that sounds like it was ripped right out of the beach boys catalog (girl, we got a good thing). Overall this album feels very cohesive and flows well from one song to the next. If the aforementioned Pinkerton was a concept album about a breakup and the ensuing mental malaise that it causes, this is a concept album about summer and all of the highs and lows those glorious months provide. A bit unusual for a band whose members are all well into their forties, but it's catchy, upbeat and just fun - and there is no age limit on that.

Not as good a record as their previous release

I purchased this record with the expectation that it would at least "approach" the excellence of their outstanding 2014 release, "Everything Will Be Alright in the End". I would have been satisfied if it at least did that. But it didn't. It's not a bad record (with an apparent southern California theme running throughout). But lyrically and sonically (in my opinion), it doesn't come close to the high bar of their 2014 release. I see there was a different artistic direction on this record (which I respect), but the songs and the execution of the songs just doesn't come off as inspired and utterly moving as they did on "Everything Will Be Alright in the End". If you're a hardcore Weezer fan, you may differ with my opinion. But aside from that, I think the songs just needed to be stronger. Maybe the four-year hiatus between "Hurley" and "Everything Will Be Alright in the End" helped in the creative process. Maybe the two-year hiatus between "Everything Will Be Alright in the End" and this new release (unofficially known as their "White Album") wasn't enough. To be fair, if it was record company pressures that forced them to expedite the release of this CD, I understand. But nonetheless, for whatever the reason may be, Weezer has done better than this in the past. Hopefully, the next release will be better.

Weezer talks about girls and does Pop Rock well

While the pop rock genre never really defined Weezer from the classic songs from the Blue/Pinkerton album, this album does seemingly juxtapose them into a romantic, but hip good time. Not as much of a comeback either like Everything Will Be Alright in the End, but gratifyingly tasteful. Great album, would give it around an 8.6/10

Closer to their roots

This album gets Weezer just a little closer to their original roots of the Blue Album and Pinkerton. It's still weird enough to reflect more of their recent stuff, and finds a happy blend between the two. Still has the classic "oo ee oo's" that put Weezer on the map. Overall, I really enjoyed this album.

Rivers Cuomo signed up for Tinder while working on this album. His observations on the modern dating scene color this White Album and give it focus. I don't want to compare it to when Bob Dylan got born again before the Slow Train Coming album, but it does sort of apply here.

Weezer emerged when I was in high school and I've stuck with them since. The albums have been up and down throughout the years and the white album continues the trend. It's pretty good. It's grown on me after a few listens. If you like Weezer, you'll like this album.

Finally...the rock has come back to Weezerland. As a huge fan of their first two albums and the raw, adorable, awkward, chunky riffs and emotions throughout, therefore I was stoked to finally hear these elements come back to Weezer's sound.

I've been a Weezer fan since the beginning ('94) and this new album is, in my opinion, their best since the 1st (Blue album) and Pinkerton. As a matter of fact, it is a perfect blend of the styles of songs from the first two! Love it!!! If you like Weezer, then it will be impossible for you to not to like all of the tunes on this great new CD!!! =weezer= still brings the rock!!!

Weezer has been one of my favorite bands. I still remember when the Blue Album came out. How many times I listened to that album I've lost count. I think I have purchased every Weezer album ever. Rivers Como and his band mates know how to make great music and this CD is no different. Amazing songs same great Weezer flair.

So, we have had the red album, green album, blue and now white. River and the gang make another record of Weezer music, although less angst ridden than past efforts. I guess that comes with age...

Weezer's latest album harkens back to an earlier age. I say this one follows closely to Make Believe. Raditude and Hurley were a little off the rails, but this is a solid follow up to EWBAITE

Weezer CD's always have some fun music, but it would be nice if they went back to a little harder rock that they did in their early albums.

Includes his newest gems Thanks God for the Girls & King of

Very good if you like Weezer. They aren't going down any new paths with this album, but sometimes that can be a good thing.

Been a Weezer fan ever since '94 and didn't know what to expect with the White Album. It took a couple listens, but it turns out to be a really fun summer album. Weezer was trying to do a California beach album and they succeeded in my mind. Great album to play over the summer!

After a few years of trying a different approach, Weezer are back with the classic line up of Pat on Drums and Rivers on Lead Guitar. An homage to Southern Cali beach rock, Weezer puts there stamp on it. A definite must for anyone who has ever liked the band.

Great album. Vocal harmonies dominate this album more than the last. I may be biased because I'm a lifelong weezer fan but this one is a must have

I bought this cd without hearing any of the songs on the radio or reading reviews. I'm going to see them in concert soon and wanted to hear some of their new stuff. Weezer's sound hasn't changed since their first album. This is a great sounding album.

I love Weezer. As they get older, their sound has changed a little. But that isn't a bad thing at all and this CD is a great addition.

This is the album that should have come out a decade ago; however, I'm more than happy Weezer's finally returned to their potential.
