This is Steven Tyler's country album. It's not really country, though, and that's a good thing. Because the parts where ST tries to force country into the album sound horribly corny. For instance, on the title track, the music stops momentarily so he can tell the audience how much he loves cornbread. This was probably corny on purpose, but if so, it's still not funny.
Anyway, most songs are pretty decent, but very little that I remembered 20 minutes later. Certainly nothing that I wanted to listen to a second time. He remakes Janis Joplin's "Piece of My Heart" and his own "Janie's Got a Gun." The former is a better remake, but that song has been remade to death. The latter is slowed down and dull and has no reason to exist other than to make you want to hear the original to get the taste of the remake out of your ears.
As I said, though, I bought this for my wife who is a huge Aerosmith fan. She liked it a lot better than I did and claimed that most of the songs were strong and catchy. She did say that there were some cheesy moments, though, and she did not like the remake of "Janie's Got a Gun," either.
Overall, I'd say that if you're a big fan, you'll probably like it, which is good since you were going to buy it anyway. If you're not a huge fan, you'd probably listen to it a few times and forget that it exists.

Much Better Than It Could Have Been

Steven Tyler's country album idea offput many Aerosmith fans, but rest assured, it's not something completely different. This sounds like a compilation of Aerosmith's twangiest tunes, although most are original. 2 covers, Piece Of My Heart by Janis Joplin & a slowed down, bluesier version of Janie's Got A Gun, close out an album that really shouldn't alienate the real Aerosmith fans nor the country music community.

I grew up in Fort Worth in the 70's, an era where you could love all music, look up KZEW radio station. Played it all. Anyway this album is not straight up country, a lil bit of everything, and shows his growth as a musician and songwriter.

This is a good album from a old pro. Steven Tyler has always been a bit of a character and the variety continues that image. A few Country songs, several Rockers and a couple of remakes keep this album interesting.

Listed as country but more cross between rock, pop and contry. I though this was one of the best albums to come out in a long time. Just a good overall mix of relaxing hometown music. 8 out of 10 !

As an Aerosmith fan I have seen them 26 times live so I must admit Steven doing country I was like " what"! Let me tell you Mr. TYLER brings it here on his first solo cd. I was just blown away with how it was all put together. From Red, white and you, Gypsy girl my own worst enemy to Janis Joplinso piece of my heart. It's a toe tapper and you will not be disappointed!

Steven rocks but sure isn't country or shouldn't need be. Country music is more pop than western and if if this cd gets country awards it will prove that "country" is a joke.

Love Aerosmith and was a bit leery when I heard that their lead singer was going to do a solo country CD. Imagine my surprise when i found myself enjoying this as much as i do Aerosmith.Sure, the sound is different, but the heart is the same. Looking forward to more of the country side of Steven Tyler.

Decent first effort by the Aerosmith front man. Mix of rock/pop/Americana. No "Dream On" moments here, but it's still a fun record to listen to...

Well technically, it's country, but hey - it's Stevie Tyler. Has a few new songs that are really good - "My Own Worst Enemy" being one. Accoustic "Janie's Got a Gun" is not bad, and he really hits it with "Piece of My Heart"!
