For a person with a lot of electronic media this device is a must. Setup is easy for both mac (needs growl) and pc. Once the client software is installed, backups are a snap. You can backup your entire machine or just certain files. It stores 1 or mutiple versions of a file which is extremely helpful. Also, disk configuration is a snap. Just setup the specified config (JBOD, RAID 1, 5) and save your config. It does reformat the drives each time the disk config is changed so, be careful. The DLNA based twonky media and iTunes server are great to have. I am able to stream music, videos (DVD quality) or pictures to my PC, Mac, XBOX, or PS3 without issue. You should get a 1000MB wire line / wireless N router to transfer files to and from the device. Backing up a 500 GB system will take a painful amount of time to complete on a 10 or 100Mb based network. Comes with 3 USB ports and one 10/100/1000 MB network port. The latest firmware and hardware updates allow for 8TB of data storage! Lastly, you can only use WD drives in this thing. The special drive mounts are made for WD drives.
