Beautiful Cabinet but Customer Service sucks

This is a very nice piece of furniture which compliments the tv and surrounding furniture. It was very easy to assemble however I would suggest not putting on the doors until last. Otherwise they just get in the way and you constantly worry about breaking the glass. It took me a half hour to assemble the cabinet and another half hour to get the doors properly adjusted and aligned. The only real negative is exactly what one other reviewer said - basically customer service leaves a lot to be desired. I also called about getting additional shelves and after holding for almost 10 minutes I was told by a very unconcerned individual that they didn't sell parts and didn't know where you could get them. I love the cabinet but can't say I would recommend the company.

Decent furniture, Whalen Service is poor.

This is a nice piece of pre-formed, Chinese, DIY furniture as far as these types of units are concerned. The doors are very easy to adjust, and pieces fit together without needing any muscling. Holes to screw bolts into have little, pre-threaded metal inserts, which is nice, although 2 of them simply ripped out of the wood with the bolt. Lucky for me they weren't in crucial places. Nice, flat paint finish on the laminated wood, and the tempered and tinted glass on the doors is thick and has beveled edges (nice touch). Something to think about: this unit comes with 2 shelves. So, you have 2 shelves to put 2 pieces of A/V equipment on. If you have any more than 2 pieces of equipment, they're going to have to go on the 'floor' of the unit. This presents 2 problems: 1) the wooden pane around the glass door is high enough that it can block the signal from your remote if a unit is on the 'floor' of the cabinet, and 2) it's a tremendous waste of space. There is plenty of space in the cabinet, but once you put something on the 'floor' of it, all that space is rendered useless unless you like to store things on top of your A/V equipment. This begs the question: "Why not just stack your equipment on top of each other on one shelf?". To which the answer is: you should never do that, especially in a cabinet like this which naturally has poor heat dissipation. I called Whalen furniture and emailed them to get 2 more shelves and shelf-pins. Another reviewer mentioned that while initially their request was declined, they were able to speak to a supervisor and get the situation resolved. Well, Whalen seems to have a no-tolerance policy now and will firmly not sell parts. No budging. For no reason. I asked them if there was anywhere to buy extra parts: no dice. I asked them what they do with all the rejected furniture so I could grab a shelf from such a unit: no answer. I asked them if I could just buy the little plastic shelf pins: NO. I've never encountered a company so resistant to making a customer happy, especially one willing to pay a premium for even a slightly defective additional part. Bad policy. I Would highly recommend that any consumer here buy a different brand of furniture - because, if anything were to happen, Whalen is a non-responsive entity that is unwilling to provide good service for a purchaser of their products. That said, if you did more research than I did, and 2 shelves is enough for you and you only have 2 A/V components (say, only a cable box and receiver), this would make for a very nice unit.

I just picked up this unit last night and I am pleased with the purchase so far. The unit came extremely well packed and assembly was quite easy. The unit looks really nice and the two front doors have a sturdy feel to them. The doors offer 3-way adjustments for alignment. Overall a nice unit and I would recommend.
