This movie gave me my first look into roller derby, and in fact inspired me to join a derby team. It's not a perfect movie, but it's entertaining. I only wish the extras were more extensive.

'Whip It' stars Ellen Page as Bliss, who is very similar to the character she plays in 'Juno': hyper aware of everything around her and able to make witty commentary about it. While the sports empowerment film are standard in Hollywood this one puts the fresh spin of focusing it on female roller derby. A strong supporting cast of Marcia Gay Harden as her mother, Daniel Stern as her father, and Kristen Wiig, Eve and Drew Barrymore (in her directorial debut) as her teammates. Juliette Lewis as the villain is ridiculous is somewhat unnecessary.

The film could've suffered from many issues, but its interesting story and the chemistry between its female cast provides for a funny, touching, coming of age film.

Drew Barrymore directs this film about a young girl who chooses to join a female roller derby rather than be the prissy girly girl. Tough, smart, and funny... This film shows that being yourself is always the way to go.

Such a fun movie, Saw it while browsing the store for a great price and counldn't resist. Great cast overall and very well done!!
