First of all, this is an awesome film... More importantly, this is a very nice quality Steelbook and Blu-Ray. I don't own many blu-ray steelbooks, but I quite like this one. It's very simplistic, reminds me of teaser movie posters before the actual main one is chosen. I recently got a 4K TV and 4KUltraHD player so I wasn't sure if I should purchase this steelbook or just get the 4K version. I borrowed both from a friend to compare which one I wanted. I'm not sure if my player or TV was upscaling the standard Blu-Ray but it looked very similar to the 4K variant. Went with this version since it's much cheaper and comes with a steelbook. I think for the price you can't go wrong with this steelbook.

Miles Teller and J.K. Simmons performance in this movie is incredible!

Those who watch Whiplash anticipating an inspirational mentor/student story will be surprised at best, terrified at worst, for it is a film about the fraught line between "hard work" and "obsession" in pursuit of a dream. Supported by two fantastic performances in Teller and Simmons, the film's energy grows more manic and more tense over its runtime, only calming down when necessary for the film's simple-but-perfectly-told story, culminating in the most intense 20 minutes of just about any movie from the year. The video is crisp and beautiful, as is the audio (necessary for a movie so structured around music), and the collection of extras present on-disc is fascinating and enjoyable, most notably a commentary featuring J.K. Simmons, whose performance won him his first Oscar at this year's ceremony, a brief overlook of the history of jazz drumming, and the original short that inspired the film. Tense, exciting, and unrestrained, Whiplash is one of the best films of 2014, and its debut on Blu-ray does not disappoint.

This is the best version of this film to own. Would buy for a dollar.
