Customers are impressed with the ease of use, quiet operation, and generous size of this 2.1 Cu. Ft. Over-the-Range Microwave. Many appreciate the microwave's performance and modern design, while some found the light and display challenging to see. A few users noted issues with the control panel and timer functionality. Overall, the positive feedback on ease of use and quiet operation outweighs the negative comments regarding specific features.

Over the range used as an in cabinet microwave

We’ve only had the microwave for a few weeks so it’s too soon to comment on its functionality. It takes time to understand a microwave’s idiosyncrasies and we tend to find a few functions that work for us and use them to death (such as Reheat:Casserole:1 Cup.) So far, we have no complaints.
But I want to leave some information that might help others who wanted what I want: an over the range size microwave used as a built in. We moved recently and had an over the range microwave at out previous home. We loved the size. However, our new home has a beautiful custom kitchen with the wall behind the range covered by the same quartz countertop material used on the counters and island, too pretty to deface hanging a microwave.
Fortunately, there is a large open space in a cabinet that was large enough to accommodate a microwave as big as an over the range microwave (though not a large countertop variety because they were all too deep.) The question was whether I could make it work. I searched many websites including this one for information and found little but I took a calculated chance. As the attached pictures show, I made it work.
The sides and top of the microwave are not flat like a countertop microwave; they are irregularly shaped stamped sheet metal but are painted matte black. They are visible IF the opening is too big. Fortunately, the size of this microwave allows it to fit almost perfectly in our opening so the unfinished sides and top aren’t visible. I imagine I could have fashioned trim to hide the sides if the fit wasn’t great.
Something I had not considered was that not having the microwave attached to anything causes it to shift when the door is opened and closed. I resolved this by using rubber chair leg protectors to raise the microwave to my desired height. The rubber prevents the microwave from sliding on the cabinet shelf and it doesn’t slide on the rubber. They aren’t visible unless one is really looking.
I inserted a small cushion between the top of the upper right panel and the cabinet above to provide a little tension so closing the door has a more solid feel. It’s black and barely visible.
A few final considerations: The light and exhaust fan under the microwave do not cause any problems. There is no reason to use them but if they are turned on they don’t hurt anything. The microwave generates little to no heat so ventilation isn’t an issue. Finally, the electric plug is NOT of the 90 degree variety so it requires a couple of inches of the opening depth. I didn’t have that space available but was able to find a 3 foot extension cord with a 90 degree plug to plug the microwave into, giving me back an inch or two.
Hope this helps any adventurous souls who are like me, always looking for something that doesn’t exist who makes do with what does.

To be honest, Whirlpool was never a brand that I'd initially considered when replacing my 21 y/o GE OTR microwave. After lots of research, my Consumer Reports subscription finally verified all the good reviews I'd read online, listing the Whirlpool as a good choice among several major brands. The interior is huge (my son-in-law says that there's a "lot of real estate in there") and heats food up quickly and evenly. The finish really is fingerprint resistant, so my OCD self hasn't had to spend hours cleaning up smudges. The window is big enough that, at 5'7, I can easily see inside, unlike most of the other brands that have minimized theirs to the point where they might as well have eliminated the window. (People shouldn't have to be taller than 6 feet to observe what they're heating.) The interior cleans up quickly and easily, but is just a bit darker than I'm used to due to the silver-toned easy clean finish rather than the white interior I'd been used to all these years. It's not a problem I can't live with, however. Best of all, compared to my original one, the microwave is exceptionally quiet while heating food and the price was fantastic.
The exhaust fan is fairly loud on high, but extremely effective, which is the more important feature for me. We cook a lot of foods with intense spices, as well as seafood, so exhausting the odors outside is a priority here. I also like having a choice of 4 speeds + OFF, rather than just the High or Low options on our former GE. The door feels very sturdy and closes tightly, with no cheap, 'tinny' feel to it. The microwave installed perfectly into the space formerly occupied by my GE, but extends a bit deeper out past our cabinets by 1.5-2", and is a bit taller by about an inch as well. Neither of these measurements has interfered with the operation of nearby cabinets at all.
I've only been operating this new appliance for a short time, and I'm still getting used to all the options, but I'm 99% satisfied with the choice of this model/brand. The only (very minor) downsides are that: 1.) I miss the ease of 'instant' buttons (#s 1-6 made my selection with just one speedy press previously). This model's only instant button gives you 30 seconds at a time, so there are still multiple presses required. 2.) I wish that the lighting under the bottom was either moved to the front where most of the actual cooking takes place or split into 2 areas to cover more of the larger cooking surface on most newer stoves (see attached photos), and also made a bit brighter. And, 3.) I wish that the "off" setting for the turntable would remain that way until it was intentionally turned back to "on", rather than the way it currently defaults back to "on" mode after each use. Again, though, these are not issues that I can't live with because I realize that there will always be some features that are a trade off within the majority of appliances.
In the end, I'm enjoying my choice more each day and would have no hesitation in recommending it to others.

Easy/Helpful instructions. Great for different types of food. My only complaint is the light on the bottom that is located so far back, it only lights the back of the stove and the wall.

Bought this after feeling all the options on the floor at BestBuy. It felt sturdier and more solid than anything on display for the price range. Nice large handle and good features. Heats up much faster than our previous microwave with similar watts. super easy to install as well. Highly recommend

So the original GE Profile Upgrade package that was a part of the townhouse when purchased 2007, this was a upgrade, my new replacement microwave. The Whirlpool instructions really bad for a DYI, but its installed. Couldn’t figure out the start button again bad instruction and operations my grandaughter showed me how. I do love the self sensor, fan, size & shelve. Its quieter than the GE love it! Thats why 5 stars. Would recommend. The size is great for a family and with shelve cook more than one dish!

Excellent product, very easy to install. Easy to use although would like to have a better user guide. Whirlpool has been a top manufacturer. Microwave is very easy to keep clean. Fingerprint proof on stainless steel is a plus.

This is a fantastic microwave. The auto settings so a great job of sensing and heating just right!
2 cu feet! If you are a good DIY, we installed it ourselves.
Consumer Report had good rating. We thought the pricing was great for all the "drill down" setting to choose from. We recommend.

This microwave has a lot of good default cooking settings and does a fantastic job with cooking my food evenly. The best I have ever had actually. I have to read the manual maybe to better use the sensing technology because it does not stop and I have to stop the cooking manually. Still does great but that is the only flaw and I hate reading manuals for any device. Also the 5 year old GE it replaced was quieter when cooking. It sounds like it’s putting on a load in spite of having a lower wattage maximum. It is large and can accommodate big plates and the fans do an Ok job. GE was stronger for venting over the stove.

It was more difficult to get out the box than putting up , one thing you need is another person to lift onto the wall brackets.the controls are pretty straight forward and food reheats on top and underneath without the need to flip over the food.

This replaced my 15+ year old GE Profile. Change is hard but I prefer the sensor controls to the GE - but thi is really a matter of personal preference. It’s interior is easier to clean. Best upgrade is that it’s quiet. Almost can’t tell when it’s running.

Very happy with this microwave. Easy to use. Didn't have to read the manual to operate all the new functions. The one I really like is the button to softens butter. No need to worry it will melt.
