    WHIRLPOOL ADVENTURE - OR, HOW I SPENT $3,699 FOR A REFRIGERATOR THAT WON'T WORK. • We have a Whirlpool WRF993FIFM00 Refrigerator, which is one of the most expensive Refrigerators that Whirlpool makes… • Day 1 – Upper Ice Maker Stops working… Try calling Whrilpool – unable to navigate the menus. • Day 2 – Try calling Whirlpool – the staff says “have you changed the water filter”. Basically, they won’t talk to you until after you have changed the filter… We took the filter out, and it still didn’t work, but, Whirlpool wouldn’t do anything. • Day 3 – Drive into town (45 minutes each way) to replace the water filter. Call Whirlpool – they say that you have to wait a day after you install the filter to get ice. • Day 4 – No Ice (also, I don’t know it, but the refrigerator itself is 20 degrees too warm, and all of our food in the refrigerator and freezer is spoiling). Call Whirlpool. They say they can’t schedule anything because their computer is down. • Day 5 - Call Whirlpool. They say they can’t schedule anything because their computer is down. • Day 6 - Call Whirlpool. They say they can’t schedule anything because their computer is down. • Day 7 – Get Online with Whirlpool – their computer says that no one services our area so we can’t get warranty service. • Day 8 – Call Whirlpool repeatedly until someone will talk to us. They send out someone a few days later. • Day 12 – Service Tech comes out… o We tell him that the 1st ice maker isn’t working. o We tell him that the 2nd ice maker isn’t working. o We tell him that the refrigerator is 20 degrees warmer than set to. o We tell him that the freezer is 20 degrees warmer than set to. o He says - it needs a part. Will take a week or two. • Day 26 – Service Tech comes out… replaces part o Says we have to wait two days before we can complain if it still isn’t working, because the system has to reset. • Day 28 – Refrigerator unusable. Lost hundreds of dollars of food. Refrigerator seems like it simply doesn’t work…

    DONT DO IT! You've been warned!

    I normally don't bother to write bad reviews, but I had to here. This is the most beautiful piece of trash EVER. Aesthetically, you want to see this in your kitchen. It stops there. We received this as an exchange for a Frigidaire unit that was covered under the protection plan... even paid an additional $1200 to upgrade. That was 13 months ago, and today makes our third service call for the same matter. The two icemakers only work when they wish, and right now it sounds like an incessant power tool in my kitchen. Would you believe that the Geek Squad technician told me in March that I should keep my refrigerator closed if I wanted it to make ice? I've never met anyone that keeps the fridge open all day. Also, I apparently have the slowest performing unit? Huh?!? This is after it worked fine for 3 months, keeping up with a household of 5 people. Whirlpool is no better... their customer service offered to send a tech, but I pay for parts and labor. I'm one week out of warranty. I called back, and the next young lady said that they could cover both... but I have to wait a week for the tech to show up. If I had read online, I would have seen that all complaints are for the same issues, and within a matter of weeks to a months. All selling parties involved know the existing issues and common issues. Save yourself the trouble on this unit, or read up on what you're buying. Please.

    A Nightmare

    I purchased this refrigerator on May 18, 2017. On June 9th the refrigerator stopped working. I called Whirlpool and on June 16th a service technician came and replaced the fresh food evaporator cover and the main control board. This worked until September 1st, when the refrigerator stopped working again. I called Whirlpool and they sent another technician out on September 6th. He ordered another evaporator cover. Two weeks went by and no call from Whirlpool or the technician. I called whirlpool on September 15th and was informed that the part is on back order and they do not know when it will be available. I asked to talk to a manager and was informed that all managers were busy but that they could send me a $150 Visa gift card and expedite the part to my technician. Finally on October 6th the technician came with the part. Only to find out that Whirlpool sent him the wrong part. He was able to install this part and get the refrigerator working, but the wrong part was for a refrigerator that has no water or ice dispenser. Well, at least I have a refrigerator, just no ice and water. I called Whirlpool to ask when I will receive the correct part and why I have not received the $150 Visa gift card. They did not know when the part would be shipped and had no knowledge of a $150 Visa gift card. I asked to talk to a Manager and was put on hold for 23 minutes, then I finally gave up and decided to write this review and to never every buy another Whirlpool product again. Do you know how hard it is to feed a family with four kids without a refrigerator for a month? My kitchen had four coolers stocked with food and I had to buy 30 to 40 pounds of ice a day. In my case at least it looks as if Whirlpool just does not care about their products or customers.

    Looks great in design and features. Ices up and leaks water due to a manufacturing problem making it non-repairable. The problem is widespread according to our repairman. Fan is failing now and the unit is not cooling. Replacement units are backordered so far they can't give us a date for replacement, so we have to choose a different one or request money back. If new one is less $$ they will not refund the difference. Money back takes 2-4 weeks. 30-35 minutes on hold EVERY TIME to address any of this with their customer service. Why go through this? STAY AWAY.

    This fridge has been nothing but issues since day 1. Best Buy finally told me I was on my own with Whirlpool, my local branch manager would not even get on the phone to talk to me. Whripool refused to replace even though it was 6 months old, but repair, we lived weeks with out a fridge, they sent repair guy many times, and pretty much rebuilt fridge. a month after fixing, same issue. Ice maker stops, fridge only cools at 60 degrees and a crazy sound starts. Whirlpool is returning my money and I am going a different brand. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS FRIDGE..... If you read reviews MANY MANY clients are having same issues with this fridge.

    We purchased this model in November 2016. There was an initial issue with the freezer frosting over, but they came out and replaced the door and everything was good for a month or so. By March, the ice maker in the freezer stopped working. They came out and replaced it. In April, the ice maker in the door stopped working. By this point, they decided it was unfixable so, to their credit, they replaced the fridge, which we got in May 2017. I was hoping the first one was just a lemon, but it's now October and we've already had our 2nd issue with the ice makers again, currently waiting on a part. From reviews I've read elsewhere, this model is obviously not designed correctly. This is ridiculous for a fridge that costs $2500-3500! It should be recalled and refunded, or given another model that doesn't have all these defects!

    I love the style of this refrigerator and hope one day it will work. We bought because it had beautiful appearance and two ice makers. The ice makers haven't worked right since purchase. We bought in September 2015 and yesterday was our 9th service appointment. Another is scheduled to install multiple parts next week. There's at least a week lag time between evaluation and parts coming in each time, sometimes more. Whirlpool warranty is fixing everything one at a time but we've had various problems including overfrosting, no ice, not cooling and more. We purchased a Geek Squad warranty and have had difficulty in communicating intelligently to their reps. They recommended letting Whirlpool fix through their one year warranty and then said they wouldn't consider the lemon policy because none of the repairs were done through them. I sent all documentation to them for their records but no response. The last Geek Squad guy I spoke with told me their warranty doesn't even kick in until the manufacturer's warranty is over and I read on their website this isn't the case. So if you buy this model, beware and don't count on the Geek Squad extra warranty or even getting a straight answer from them. We went back to the Kitchen section of Best Buy after initially having problems and asked about replacement and they basically "shooed" us off.

    Headache to Own

    My refrigerator section has stopped working (like almost everyone else's that has reviewed it) the service tech that came out had us unplug the unit for 24 hours since the freezer section was working he thought it was defrost issue. Sure enough the unit dumped at least a gallon of water on the floor after closer to 30 hours unplugged. Plugged the unit back in and everything works fine. After reviewing the schematic, the tech discovered that Whirlpool never designed the fridge to have a defrost component for the refrigerator coil. The solution he gave me was to unload the unit at least once a year and leave it unplugged for at least a day to allow for a manual defrost. What a pain! The size is nice but otherwise I am not impressed

    Bought this Mar 2017 from local BestBuy. It has been nothing but trouble. First refrig section didn't cool enough, food spoiled, top ice maker didn't work. Called GeekSquad Apr, they fixed some thing like door, thermistor, etc., Entire evaporator was frozen solid. It then worked for 2-3 weeks. Then freezer stopped working, bottom ice maker didn't work. Food spoiled, called Geeksquad in June, they again fixed door, thawed evap. It worked for 3 weeks. Now Regrig section not working again. GeekSquad really does not know how to truly diagnose a problem. So called Whirlpool. They said the fridge has a manufacturing defect in the evaporator cover, thermostat and controller (that GeekSquad had no idea about). So he said this is a common problem with these models and Whirlpool has been fixing a lot of these. GS has been over 3 times already. Also didn't know GS policy that GS will not replace a lemon within the manufact warranty period (of 1st year in this case). So avoid this fridge at all costs. So disappointed with Whirlpool and BB GeekSquad.

    Faulty Product - Multiple Times

    First Geek Squad has been great and I'm GLAD I have an extended warranty! Policy included a food spoilage provision which was great to hear. Problem is the quality of the product from Whirlpool and given this product is no longer available after just a year now I know why. We have had 4 repairs for the refrigerator section stops cooling. Freezer is fine. Each time the problem is fixed but, returns suddenly 6 or so months later. They replaced parts three times, re positioned T-stats once and now I have the same problem again in just 1 year of ownership. Also the water dispenser sticks so when you pull the cup away, it is still running on the ground until you grab it and pull it back out. Word to the wise: If Geek Squad comes they bring parts and they fix it. If it is a contractor company, they don't bring parts and you are looking a 1 - 2 weeks for your parts and another visit. Choose Geek Squad if given the choice. Whirlpool should recall these refrigerators and their parts. Waiting now for my second visit on the current repair. Question is, if you buy a 5 year warranty and you have a "no lemon" after the first year does the rest of your warranty carry to the replacement or is it forfeited?

    We purchased this fridge about 10 months ago. After 7 repair visits, so many parts replaced, we got a brand new one. Same problem: ice does not make. The repair person came again on the 2nd fridge and replaced the condenser. Now the fridge does not make ice and is running hot. We are done. Whirlpool just doesn't have it's stuff sorted. We were so patient and so wanted this fridge to work...but it just doesn't work. Avoid this fridge and brand at all costs.

    I HAVE OWNED THIS REFRIGERATOR FOR ONLY 7 MONTHS. I HAVE HAD THE REPAIR TEAM OUT TWICE AND WAITING FOR THE 3RD VISIT. FIRST IT STARTED MAKING A HORRIFIC NOISE AND THE FRIDGE STOPPED WORKING; WAITED OVER 10 DAY TO ONLY HAVE THEM ORDER PARTS AND THEN 5 MORE DAYS FOR THEM TO REPLACE PARTS. 1 WEEK LATER; FREEZER (AND ICE MAKER) STOPPED WORKING. WAITED AGAIN 2 WEEKS (REPAIRMAN SAID HE THEY ARE AWARE OF THESE PROBEMS AND KEEP SENDING REPLACEMENT PARTS BUT THAT'S IT). NOW LESS THEN A MONTH THE FRIDGE AND FREEZER COMPLETELY STOPPED COOLING - FOOD LOSSED AGAIN AND WHIRLPOOL DOESN'T WANT TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS LEMON EXCEPT TO SEND THE REPAIR MAN AGAIN; WHICH WON'T BE UNTIL 8 DAYS! I REPLACED MY WHOLE KITCHEN BECAUSE I LOVED THIS FRIDGE BUT IT HAS BEEN A LEMON. SHAME ON WHIRLPOOL FOR NOT BACKING THEIR PRODUCT BETTER/SHAME ON ME FOR BUYING IT.     Looks great but dependability is bad

    We originally purchased this refrigerator in last August of 2016. Almost immediately, we had issues with ice build up in the freezer. Best Buy was great and determined the freezer door would not seal so replaced the entire refrigerator. Things worked great for a while, but in March the ice maker in the door stopped working. It took over 3 weeks to get fixed due to scheduling service and the part being backordered. One month later, the refrigerator starting making a strange sound and did not seem to be cooling properly. This repair also took over 3 weeks due to backordered parts and we ended up losing all our food. Immediately after the repair, the water dispenser in the door stopped working. It has now been almost a month and we just received the backordered part and have scheduled it to be installed. But, we have another strange noise and it seems to not be cooling again.Whirlpool is now finally discussing a full replacement of the refrigerator, but no guarantee it will be approved. When it works, it's great. But we've had lots of issues and each issue seems to require backordered parts so repairs take a very long time. I would not purchase this again or recommend to anyone because of the dependability issues we have had.

    Worse Fridge ever!

    Replaced all my kitchen appliances with Whirlpool Gold Products because of the solid product they are known for. Sadly our refrigerator has been replaced 3 times in 9 months and this 3rd replacement is now not working. Food has spoiled twice in both the refrigerator and freezer. First the ice machine stopped making ice, then the refrigerator and freezer stopped cooling. The next refrigerator arrived damaged. The 3rd refrigerator is making a loud noise and the freezer is not staying cold. To spend $2800 on a refrigerator you expect it to last years not months or weeks! After watching the repair guy fix the refrigerator I noticed the parts are all on a styrofoam board which can't get much cheaper made than styrofoam. We have spent so much $ in spoiled food and eating out because we don't have a refrigerator that works longer than a few weeks. We just replenished our food last week when the new refrigerator arrived and 5 days later it's spoiled again from the freezer not cooling. I was always a big whirlpool fan of their quality but not anymore!

    Unreliable performance

    We enjoyed everything about this large capacity unit (small ice cubes, large storage options, organized shelving, clean appearance) until the refrigeration unit stopped working after a few months. Parts were too difficult to source and our earliest estimate to replace the part was 3 weeks. Our only option was to downgrade so we could get a working fridge into our home. We are so disappointed with Whirlpool. Bestbuy was great in getting our unit swapped out so Kudos to them.
