Customers appreciate the Duet 4.1 Cu. Ft. 7-Cycle High-Efficiency Front-Loading Washer's high efficiency, quiet operation, and clean washing performance. Many also find it easy to use and appreciate its larger capacity compared to other models. While some users have reported issues with the door seal, the positive feedback on cleaning ability and ease of use outweighs these concerns. First HE Washer I've Ever Owned

I should begin with the fact this was an emergency purchase after a washer I've had for years kicked the big one. I figured it's better to buy a whole new set than to have it repaired and hope it doesn't break down again; that and I would've had to wait for a month and waiting a month isn't an option for me.
Plus, I'm trying to become more energy efficient in my apartment, which I believe I do a good job at but I know I can do just a little better.
So far I'm liking the different options and how well it cleans my clothes.
As I've stated above, the door opens in a different direction from the dryer. I've made it work, but for where the washer/dryer is at it's somewhat bizarre. I know Whirlpool had a reason for it which I can respect. But I have it stacked and it can be sometimes confusing. But like I said I've made it work.
For the money (I also got this on sale!) and what you get I'd say this makes a great choice if you're wanting to get an HE unit. The dryer is fine so far, but look for my review (I'm going to make one shortly after this one).

Excellent Washer

I bought this washer to replace an older washer that came with the house I purchased. The HE washer was a must as the one I replaced was a traditional washer that used double the water and the motor was about to go in it. Everything about this washer has met my expectations and more. With just myself and my sister in the house we only end up needing to one load of clothes a week each. Overall this washer is awesome!

Unusable after 2 months

We bought this washer and dryer set this past summer (2013) as a way to prepare for our expectant child. About 2 months after we bought it, the door locked shut with wet clothing inside. We followed the troubleshooting guide and instructions that the whirlpool representative gave us on the phone. Nothing worked.
8 days later a tech came to break the lock off the door to get our clothes out. He said he will be back in the next week or so to replace the lock but until then, our washer would be unusable. He also said that when he come back, he will show us how to get the lock off the door should this ever happen again, so our wet clothes would not be trapped. I asked "so this will likely happen again?", He said "yes".
Meanwhile, our clothes were 8 days wet, our brand new washer (which I had been taking care to leave the door open in between loads as per instructed), smelled mouldy and stunk up our whole house. it is now the middle of the third week without our washing machine working. We haven't heard back from whirlpool, and we have a huge pile of musty, dirty clothes waiting to be cleaned. We feel incredibly ripped off as a young couple who has saved for a long time to buy a washer and dryer set.
Do not buy this washer! The reviews look good but this machine had not been on the market long enough to prove that it stands the test of time (Tech's words)...If you must buy it, get the warranty like we did. At least that way, every time it breaks down, you can have someone come and break the lock off for you and replace it several weeks later.

Wished it Worked

This is the second Duet I have had the dryer is still running great but I have had to have repair people for the washer more times in the last four years than I care to think about. The store has been wonderful about repairs but everything has gone wrong from electronics to pumps. The old washer was GREAT when it worked, just wish it worked all the time. It was replaced under the store's extended warranty a few months ago. The new washer had not been the house 3 months before the entire control board went on it causing it to count down too quickly making me think I was doing the wash wrong because it was not coming out clean. I finally admitted it was not me and called repair in and found out both control panels needed to be replaced. :( following my brother's reccomendation and going away from Whirlpool next time.

Bought this to replace the previous Duet model that died after only 2 years so we could match the duet dryer. This one was even worse. In one year had repairs done on it twice where it took two weeks to get parts. Then after warranty ran out after a year it started leaking around the seal of the door. Possibly the worst appliance product we have experienced. We have had to purchase a new washer.

Poor product, lousy customer service at Whirlpool

My whirlpool washer and dryer were tremendous disappointments. I had repairmen in my house every six months and put tons of money into various repairs. Calls to Whirlpool were met with indifference. I will never buy one of their products again. Just look at their facebook page.

got 85 minutes to do a load of wash?

this was purchased for us. I had done a lot of research and did not want a whirlpool washer but "the price was right". We never had an high efficiency (HE) washer before, while it may save thousands of gallons of water over its life, the 85 minute wash time is excessive. I called Best Buy and they told me all HE's take a long time to do wash. You must also use HE detergent. Just not a good deal.

A front loading washer that rides on shock absorbers is NOT a good design. In the course of 5 years, I had to purchase the warranty over and over JUST to keep up with repairs.
