Customers enjoy the many games, especially those appealing to a wide range of players, and find the gamepad intuitive and easy to use. The system's ease of use and fun factor are also frequently praised, along with its price point. However, some customers point to the battery life of the gamepad and the lack of third-party game support as shortcomings.

I could not pass this system up got a great deal on it.
I own a 3DS and really enjoyed the Mario Land so I had a big interest in the Mario 3D world but was really disappointed it's just not the same in 2d only half as fun but keep in mind i have not tried the multi player also the levels are better thought out on the 3ds game.
The other game that came with it is Nintendo Land I must say I found myself enjoying this game on this system, its made for it
and it works well with the gamepad very fun.
I've always been a hard core gamer and never bought a wii so one more reason to buy this system and I do find myself playing more on the Wii side of the WiiU cause there are plenty of good games to play i'm finding out I must say I'm kinda surprised really.
As far as the WiiU it's self it's good hardware I mean the graphics have a very polished look, nice as far as the cartoony Nintendo games go and everything runs great in 1080p never better and in my opion is all the horse power Nintendo needs this Gen but when you throw in the 3rd party games it is lacking compared to the PS4 and XBOXOne also third party's are very few for the WiiU and no hope in site.
I'll talk a little about the game pad it's a mixed bag of nuts for sure.
Pretty much it's like have two systems going at once a very weird feeling at best I mean most wiiU games you have to play with it or you just cant play the games fully even 3D Mario world at one point you have to use it to do certain things and all the time its glaring in your face while playing not Ideal for me I find it detracting.
the battery only last for 4-5 hours at best I even turned down the brightness hoping it would help not much ;(
The game pad gets a very nice picture I must say almost as good as my Sony tv funny enough.
There is a separate AC adapter for the Gamepad which is good.
The Gamepad controls very well and can even use the old wii motion controller on the little screen pretty cool, but honestly this system feels like a OCD persons dream going back n forth from the little screen and big screen of my tv just seems like too much over kill at times and I just don't like being forced into doing so lol.
As far as the range with the Gamepad here again i'm disappointed from my living room to my bedroom 15 feet it cuts off, not as cool as it should be.
Honestly if I had to choose Nintendo systems right now the 3DS is no1 the wii is no2 and the WiiU is no3 with that said keep in mind the Wii is playable on the WiiU so worth a buy in my option if you don't have a Wii. that's about all I can say about that..
Nintendo makes very good games and that's what really makes this system a second system of choice under a xboxone or ps4 as of now can't go wrong with any system you buy but in the next year or two this wiiU will be pretty dead Nintendo is already talking about the NX for a possible 2017 release.
Final thoughts:
So I have to ask myself do I like this system= yes,is the Gamepad a gimmick= yes,is there all kinds of classic retro games i can buy and play on it=yes,am I happy I bought it= "not sure" it distracts me from enjoying my Awesome 3DS..LOL

I love my Wii U for a lot of the same

To be upfront, Nintendo is the only reason I still play video games and the original Wii was the first gaming system I bought since the original Playstation. While I wouldn't mind having an XBox One or a Playstation 4, the prices and overrall game libraries for both just don't appeal to me. With that being said, I love my Wii U for a lot of the same reasons I loved the Wii - the original Nintendo titles. You can't go wrong with New Super Mario Brothers U, MarioKart 8 or Super Mario 3D land. Nintendoland and Super Smash Brothers are great for playing with friends and family. The Wii U's graphics are crisp and it offers a lot of interesting abilities through the gamepad. Being able to play games on the gamepad while my wife uses the TV is a big plus especially if you only have one TV in the house. You get the standard fair in other multimedia through the Netflix, Amazon and Youtube offerings. The internet browser is funcitonal if somewhat inconsistent. Its also backward compatible with the original Wii games and controllers. The Wii U also has the same Virtual Console function but to date they have not incorporated as many titles as were on the original Wii's version such as N64 games.
What it really boils down to is what you want from a gaming system. The Wii U has met all of my expectations and I think its a wonderful system but for hardcore gamers who prefer the more realistic games such as Call of Duty you'll not going to find that level of gameplay on the Wii U, but the original Nintendo titles are superb. As has been Nintendo's problem since the N64, third party titles are skimpy but there are some gems out there (Bayonetta 2, Child of Light).

Overall I think the Wii U is a great purchase. Excellent first party games (Mario, donkey kong, Mario kart, smash bros). great library of classic virtual console games. Some descent third party games (call of duty, assassins creed, watch dogs). Somehow I ended up getting all three current gen systems (Wii U ps4 and Xbox one). The Wii U is the go to system when my friends and I get together for local multiplayer. Mario, mario kart, Smash bros. Mario party, and hyrule warriors are great when played together in the same room. Where the Wii u fails (besides horsepower wise) is online functionality and 3rd party support. if wanting to play online (besides Mario kart and smash bros) I use Xbox or ps4.
Pros:
- Backwards compatibility with the Wii
- Support wiimote and Wii accessories
- Port saved games and purchases from the Wii
- Small system footprint and low power consumption (compared to Xbox and playstation)
- First party library and virtual console.
Cons:
- 3rd party game support after 2015 will be lacking
- Gamepad integration is not very good. I dislike that the Gamepad turns on automatically when within range of the Wii u. The pad cannot be turned off and can only have the screen shutoff via an annoying system menu. Taking the Gamepad out of range is the only alternative. Range is also and issue especially if you have two or more walls between you and the system. Some of the video apps won't work without the Gamepad which is annoying. Overall being able to play off tv is a nice touch but simply being able to shut off the Gamepad and access menus and setting without it would be nice as 80%of the time I don't need the Gamepad. Also, few games make real use of the Gamepad.
Wii U is a great system with excellent games. Some flaws but still worth it for the local multiplayer.

Purchased this for my 22y.o. daughter for Christmas. She has practically all Nintendo gaming products, still working/just like new, so we knew this would be no different. Set up was relatively easy for her and, well, it's paid for itself already. The bundle was a great option, allowing us to purchase a few extra games and accessories. Great way to segue into the next Nintendo game system.

As always, Nintendo created a fantastic system for the family. The gamepad looked like a gimmick at first, but the ability to play games on the device without having to use the TV is awesome. Now one of the kids can play a game on the gamepad while someone else watches TV. We also love the fact that all our Wii controllers work on it, including Wii games. Huge cost savings.

I've been putting off purchasing a Wii U for several years now. I purchased the PlayStation 4 Day 1 but have always been a fan of Nintendo and wanted to buy the Wii U also... Unfortunately, I didn't have the extra cash to do so. After the price drop and the bundles with Super Mario 3D World hit stores, I decided now was the time. It was a great decision! I had such a great time playing Super Mario 3D World. I recently purchased Mario Kart 8 and having a blast on that one now. If you have been putting off buying this system, now is a great time... there are so many great titles available to play now that the system is on its home stretch. Titles worth checking out: Super Mario 3D World, Zelda Wind Waker, Mario Maker, DK Country, Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros, Super Mario Wii U, Splatoon, and a bunch of classics on their virtual store. This large library of games is one of the pros of waiting till the end of a consoles life. Plus --- we still have hopes of a new open world Zelda Wii U Game!

As someone who grew up on older Nintendo consoles and has since migrated to basically nothing but PC games, the Wii U is a wonderful change for Nintendo. After the Wii I had lost faith in Nintendo since the motion controls were not nearly as good as I had imagined they would be. The Wii U is more like the GameCube than the Wii in that the games don't require you to flail around like an idiot. From Nintendo's development teams the Wii U has produced some of the most beautiful visuals I have seen in video games (from consoles at least).
The WIi U's Gamepad may look clunky and obnoxious at first but it really is a great controller. Think of the Wii U as a big DS. The TV is the top screen and the Gamepad is the bottom screen. The only difference is you don't need the top screen to play. At least with the games I have for the system, you can play the games completely without needing a TV. I actually had it set up next to my computer for a while and would play a match of Smash Brothers at my desk while waiting for my next game of Dota to start. If you are going to spend any money on a new console (PS4, XOne, Wii U) make it the Wii U. The only way they could improve upon the Wii U is if it used Blurays and I could watch my Bluray collection on it and completely get rid of my PS4 (the Bluray player).

Super Mario 3D World is an excellent game, Nintendo Land is definitely great with multiplayer in mind. Just be sure to stay patient, since there is a required update the console which can range from a half hour to several hours. Once you start playing, everything is fluid, Gamepad is fine.

Great Family System...

The Wii U scores over all other systems in my mind because I love playing games with my wife and little boy and Nintendo is well known for its family friendly content, whereas other systems tend to concentrate on more "mature" (and I use that term sarcastically) gaming.
My 4 year son and I enjoy playing Mario games, Disney Infinity and Nintendo Land, the latter of which came with the system and provides a stunning variety of fun little games the whole family can play. He really enjoys being able to win against mommy and daddy in Luigi Ghost Mansion and Mario Chase.
Perhaps the coolest feature of the Wii U is the gamepad. It not only allows for really cool 'fog of war' elements to be added in games (the ghost player in LGM, for example, can see the whole map on the gamepad screen but is invisible most of the time on the main TV screen used by the other players) but it also allows my boy to play his favorite games on the pad while we watch something else on TV. And because it is wireless, he can even take it from room to room, leaving us in peace when we want to watch a movie or just want the TV off. A very good buy and I look forward to him showing his soon-to-be-born baby brother how to play the 'tendo when he gets old enough.

My son asked for a gaming system for his 7th birthday. The only games he had previous experience with were those with free apps on the iPad. We got this on sale for $275.00, and seems to be a great purchase. Intuitive, and kid friendly with pre-loaded Mario World and Nintendo Land games. The system also plays Wii games. I would recommend this system.

More expensive an investment than I was expecting

I bought the Wii U as a Christmas gift for my kids. I remember when the original Wii came out (I did not get one) and it was significantly less expensive than the Xbox 360 and Sony Playstation 3. So I dove into this expecting roughly the same. Well, I spent just south of $300 on this. But of course, I needed a few games. Even the games that had been out for the better part of a year were still $30. And then there is the controller situation. It only comes with the tablet. I bought this for the family to play and one controller just isn't going to cut it. So, I bought an additional controller - the one that looks like an XBox 360 controller, at the strong advice of the Best Buy employee, for an additional $50. Bad choice, because I really wanted the Wii remotes for those type of games. $120 later I have two Wii Remotes and the corresponding Nunchuks. In the few months around this purchase I must have spent somewhere between $500-$600.
Time has passed and the pain of the cost has died away. It still stings when I think about it, but I usually don't. I just note how my family enjoys playing with the Wii and how it was a good purchase.
Buy it, but understand you are not buying the "cheaper" system. It'll cost you the same in the end.

Bought for my son for Christmas. He LOVES it! I myself have enjoyed a little 3D Mario when he's not around, lol. The system itself is great. The console is small, glossy black and comes with stands so it can be oriented flat or on its side. It's attractive and takes up little space. The touch screen game pad is nearly the same size as the console. It is rechargeable via included AC adapter which also plugs into one of two included stands to become a charging dock and the pad can be used while plugged in if charge is low. Possibly the coolest feature is the touch screen. There's a stylus that snaps into the back, a la the DS, which makes setting up profiles, accounts and menu navigation a breeze. There's also the ability to swap screens and move the gameplay or app in use to the gamepad. We also have an Xbox360 in the same room so while my son was busy defending the world from aliens on COD:Ghosts on the Xbox, my daughter was able to watch one of her favorite programs on the gamepad via Netflix. And when she bored of that, she fired up a game of Smash Bros without ever leaving her chair or arguing with her brother for use of the tv. Very cool. If you're on the fence on this one, I would definitely recommend it.

New to the Wii console and am happy with the purchase. Was pleasantly surprised that this was a delux set which includes everything you ever need (besides more controllers). Great and helpful paper instructions as well. The new controller gamepad is different and nice but might almost be a little too large (especially for smaller hands).

Bought these for my son's 9th birthday. He's been collecting Amiibo figures for month's. Very easy to set up. The thing we like is the Wii U controller acts as a separate gaming system that can be played independent from the console unit. Just brought it with us on long car ride. Console can be paired with regular Wii controllers.

Bought this for my kids. They love it. Easy to set up and came with a couple games. It works with the older Wii controllers we had so I didn't have to purchase additional ones. Also the included game pad replaces the TV screen. That was one kid can be playing the Wii U via the game pad while the other watches TV. Cuts down on arguments.

The games that come with this are unique and fun both while playing alone and with friends. About the console itself, it does smudge easily and the gamepad has a surprisingly short battery life (3-4 hours, which go by quickly), but the amount of content that the games and console itself offer make this very much worth $300.

This console has been out for a while now. The story is the same as always. It's a Nintendo product. It's built to take a little abuse from the kids, moreso than the TV and whatever is on top of the coffee table. Make sure to use the wrist strap and cover for the Wii Remotes. The catalog of games is small, but the 1st-party titles are solid. Good for cooperative games and parties. Less great for shooters. The second screen is fun. Even living by myself, it's nice to be able to play some games from somewhere other than the couch. I just wish the battery lasted longer.

I bought this game console for one game - Super Mario Maker. I have preordered that (it comes out a week after the time that I am writing this review). In the meantime, I've been playing all the other Wii U Mario games (the included Super Mario 3D Land is the best 3D Mario game yet - in my opinion - and I've been playing Mario games since 1985).
There is not a lot of 3rd Party support for the Wii U -- and Nintendo itself is set to release a new console in the next year or 2. But the games that Nintendo itself has released for this console are very enjoyable - especially if you grew up playing Nintendo, or have kids who you want to grow up playing Nintendo. :D
Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U is another must-have title. No other game in history brings together Super Mario, Pac-Man, Mega Man, and Sonic the Hedgehog. (Other than the companion Super Smash Bros. for the 3DS, of course.)
But, again, my primary goal in buying this console was Super Mario Maker. The last time I was so hyped for a game was Halo 2.
If you like Mario - get this system. If you don't - you'd probably prefer an Xbox One or PS4.

The WiiU is fun and so easy to use. We love the new games that we can play in the game and the versatility of the handheld console. Bought this console to have for parties and it did not disappoint. The WiiU is great console to have with kids and adults both. With this bundle coming with two free games and a low price makes it a great deal as well. Not many solid single player games for the hardcore gamers but strong content for multi player.
