A Masterpiece

I know this sounds odd to say, but I believe it actually helped me grow up. Bergman's trademark search for honesty pervades it. The approach to serious issues is unflinching. Younger viewers today no doubt would find it slow and very low-tech. They might be better off starting with a Bergman film from the 70s. Also, the Essential Art House series has virtually no 'bonus' material. But this is a fine copy of a film that has passed, and will continue to pass, the test of time.
