Great music, but where's the banjo?

My husband and I have fallen in love with Mumford and Sons over the past few years and were eager to get our hands on this newest installment. While we both love the new album, it is just not quite what either of us were expecting. We are both fans of bluegrass music and missed the twang of the banjo on this album, but that hasn't kept us from listening to it over and over again. If you can keep in mind that Mumford is branching out a little and just appreciate the music for what it is, then you will surely be as pleased as we have been with the new album.

At first I was concerned Mumford had totally gone the commercial route after reading comparisions to U2. I was very pleased to find the comparisions an exaggeration. Although the album doesn't sound exactly like their first it still sounds organic and soulful. I prefer to listen to groups who grow and mature verus listening to the same sound lp after lp. The music is a little different not radical not worse just a little different. Viva the change

I wish I could say I was surprised by the mixed reviews this album is receiving. Fairweather friends are common in pop culture. Too many kneejerk reactions -- it's different, so it has to be bad; the band is popular so they can't still be good; if something is written on the Internet, it becomes a fact and I will be powerful!; etc.. While it is true Wilder Mind has a different sound, the songwriting is still very strong. Listen with an open mind and don't be too quick to judge just because it's different. Mumford and Sons is still a great band and shouldn't be pigeonholed or required to make the same music again and again. I'm excited by what they'll produce next.

Not what I expected

My wife and I enjoyed the first two albums put out by Mumford and Sons, and so my wife kept an eye out for this one. She already knew that the style of music would be different, and she likes it quite a bit. I, however, was taken aback by the sudden change in style, and I'm not sure if I will like it or not. It's not to say that music is poorly played or written. It just wasn't what I expected.

If you like Mumford and Sons and their style you will enjoy this album. If you don't then you probably won't. This outing will not change your mind about them either way. I don't think it matches the quality of their first album but I'd say it's equal to or better than their second. As I get older I tend to gravitate towards type of music especially if I'm looking for some laid back music.

New sound leaves some empty, others filled

Being a fan of the older sound, the new sound Mumford has chosen may blend in more than their original vibes but at the same time offers something different than what their almost indistinguishable first two albums presented. I believe everyone should give it a few listens and see what they think. For me, I am completely on board. Highly recommended.

I loved the previous Mumford & Son's albums, and I picked this up without previewing any of the songs beforehand. The first listen gave me quite the surprise, but it was certainly a welcomed one.
The band has pretty much all but ditched their signature twangy folk sound for a new stadium-filled alt pop style, and it works. Their evocative, powerful song writing still shines through, and in some cases this new sound acts as a greater vessel for their wilder minds.

It's a good new album, with some very good new songs, although I don't think it is better than some of their earlier albums (but that's just me). I didn't get the extended (2 album) version, so there may have been additional songs I might have liked ( I just didn't feel like paying the extra dollars for it).

Good album, but not classic Mumford & Sons

I must admit that while I am a fan of Mumford & Sons, I prefer their earlier work. Sure, you can tell that they have matured and this album is more refined, but the folk sound is what originally drew me to them in the first place and it's somewhat lacking in their newest album.

I'm a big fan, I was looking forward for their new music. I still like them, but I miss the folklore sound, the songs are good, but their signature sound is gone. Without the banjo they sound just like any other band. That is why I only gave the CD 4 stars.

I love rock, mostly metal, but always liked the more laid back first 2 Mumford albums. This one rocks quite a bit more and not sure I'm sold on that yet from them. Bought it for a long drive, and found it quite enjoyable in that environment.

It is tough because you are used to the folk, banjo style from Babel and Sigh No More so the electric guitar, hard rock vibe is weird. But give it a chance, there are some good tracks on the disc.

These guys are the real deal. There songs are heart wrenching, real and they are talented. A great 3rd album release and any fan of them would enjoy. Pretty straight to the point - buy it!

I am not the hugest Mumford & Sons fan, but I have enjoyed their music for some time. If you love the banjo, buy any of their previous cd's. I like that they chose to not use the banjo on this cd--for me, it makes it easier for me to listen to it over and over. (Yes, it is all about the banjo!)

I love Mumford and Sons sound. I could listen to them sing every name in a phone book as long as they played their style of music over it. Their fun-loving side comes out in a few of the songs, but they remain true to their roots throughout. The boys have done it again!

Hey, why not sound like every other band today? Mumford and Sons have their own unique sound, but with their success a lot of bands are copying them. The difference is the Sons do it with better written songs. I'll play this over any other young band making music today.

Different sound for Mumford and Sons

With the release of their third album "Wilder Mind," Mumford and Sons have definitely tweaked the sound we've grown accustomed too. This album has significantly less (at least what we can hear from studio editing) banjo but much more electric guitar. This brings about a completely different feel from the album. It's still a good album and worth the purchase. However I believe it will take a few times through the entire album for one to get used to and appreciate the new sound from the band.

Wasn't quite what I was expecting (or hoping)...but all in all is a good album. Starts strong and ends a bit week in my opinion. Love "The Wolf" and "Ditmas"
